PBR...

ld be very very careful on the nd/msu game....stinson is the real deal at qb for msu and could very easily light up nd like henne did last weekend. in fact he is a better qb than henne but he doesnt have all the weapons henne does at scUM

Naked Nott Run

NNR has been on fire betting this season... currently 11-3 on the spread. Here are  NNR's picks of the week... if you want in

Tennessee +10.5
Miami

Chicago -3.5
Minnesota

Arizona -4.5
St Louis
Anyone notice how none of the kids from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were even a little bit cool... Where was the athlete who pile drives wonka into the chocolate river??? Coulda done sooo much more with that "classic"

'gro

as always I agree with all of LD's d3 pics.  I think that springfield will CRUSH alfred 38-7 in order to make a statement to the rest of the E8 that they are back.

Gro also notes that 21 of RPI's 28 points will come from Hobart turnovers. Expect Hobart to have more yards than RPI since the 'neers will have great field position all day. It's science.

In the LLPP Fantasy League, I am officially starting JP Losman at QB.  What is this world coming to?

Re: LLFF
Gro is starting Chad Pennington AND Jerrico Crotch-ery vs. a good bills defense.

Re: NFL
looks like a tough week for wagering in the NFL. no gimmie games like last week (KC +10 vs Denver??)

Re: Hobart

Red Tackle...

I have been in sales for a long time now...and the one thing you always need to remember is what is the ultimate goal of showing up to work every day...what function does this particular job serve for you....

The answer to that question can have some different variations...some are looking for self fulfillment....but if you chose sales as a career, i am guessing that  you are not neccessarily interested in saving the world at this point in your career....but rather you are looking for the "check at the end of the tunnel"...

With that in mind, my advice to you is to stay focused on the goal...do not get involved with office politics...listen to everything that goes on around you and do not say a word...Knowledge truly is power in an organization....never send an email that has any negative opinion expressed in it...always show a positive front with others...and last but not least...keep your friends close ....but your enemies closer....

The last one pertains to the Dragon Lady...she obviously must have a good sized ego....with personalities like that, she would probably like to get asked for help and be included in anything good going on...see if you can turn the tables somehow and use her experience and place in the company to advance yourself...

I am not saying kiss up....but rather position yourself strategically to take advantage of anything that she can do for you...still remain in control....and wait until you are in a position to separate yourself in the organization...

Good luck!

The Rev went to LA once and saw a Hobart St., which The Rev sure is named for our dear departed bishop.

Yep - It's right next to Harvard St (or Ave) in the Boyle Heights section near DT LA.  Not sure if it's named after the Rt Rev John Henry (Episcopalian that he was), b/c B Heights was a predominantly Jewish hood back in the early 1900's.  That said, considering many former NYers did trek out to LA back in the day, it would not surprise TGP if the street got named after the ole College.

<<Allow the Rev to clear something up here.  Among HWS faculty being an athlete was a distinct disadvantage.>>

I should have been more clear in my earlier post.  The BMOC status was more social-related than faculty related.  I will concede to the point that there were a lot of profs at the Bart that were not down with the Frat/Athlete guys.

<<TGP doesn't have such strong memories of campus politics, but that's probably because The Rev was a lot more active in being a campus contrarian, while TGP played bass in a band down at Run Runner.  In hindsight, the Rev thinks TGP chose the better path.>>

Being in a band sure had it's advantages during my college years.  However, while you were being a campus contrarian battling feminazis, I had to negotiate our draw from the door with a coked up P Mitchell after our shows in the store room of the Runner.  Yikes!

Just read in today's paper...I am in the Rochester area...that H and WS just announced a new capital campaighn for I think $160 Million or so...

Since it is RPI-Hobart Weekend...lets put that into perspective...

RPI's currnet campaign is for almost ten times as much as that...$1.4 BILLION...

So...what can we determine from that...???

Since there is a formula used by development offices that will give you a percentage of funds that Alumni will likely give vs. governmental and crporate gifting, RPI ALUMNI GIVE ABOUT 10 TIMES AS MUCH MONEY TO THEIR ALMA MATER THAN HOBART ALUMS!!!

From that...Can we extrapulate the following...

1- RPI ALUMS HAVE 10 TIMES AS MUCH DISCRETIONARY FUNDS TO PLAY WITH....

2- RPI ALUMS MAKE 10 TIMES AS MUCH AS HOBART ALUMS...

3- RPI ALUMS CARE MORE ABOUT THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION IN OUR COUNTRY THAN A LIBERAL ARTS SCHOOL LIKE HOBART...

4- RPI ALUMS HAD A BETTER EXPERIENCE IN TROY THAN HOBART ALUMS HAD IN GENEVA....(OUCH THAT ONE WOULD HURT!!!)

5- RED IS A BETTER COLOR THAN ORANGE...

Ok...Ok....i will stop there...but the reality is, $1.4 Billion is a lot to raise and that kind of a number is usually only attempted by the Major Institutions( Michigan, Stanford, etc...) and Ivy's....

Just another indication of Rensselaer's stature vs. the rest of the Liberty League competition....not another school in the LL or even the Empire League comes close to the academic standards and average starting salaries of a Rensselaer grad...

Last I checked, the AVERAGE starting salary out of Rensselaer was right around $55,000 dollars across all of the majors....not a bad start for a 21 year old...and if you stick around for grad school it goes up very nicely...

Bottom line...If you are looking for a very competitive football program, with a great career potential upside....and a football program that is run by someone with a lot of integrity....YOU CAN'T GET ANY BETTER IN ALL OF NY STATE!!!!

Pardon The Interruption - as I know I was not fortunate enough to attend or graduate from RPI or Hobart - but isn't extrapulate correctly spelled extrapolate?

I am enjoying the running feud between the two schools - good luck to both teams!

RSW -

Good post, but your comparison of the two schools doesn't carry any weight because of so many fundamental differences.

Hobart has and always had around 1,800 all undergrad students.  That's it (ok I technically guess we added a Master's in Teaching program a couple of years ago, but basically Hobart is an undergraduate college - RPI is not).

RPI has about 5,000 undergrad plus another 1,200 grad students (including masters and doctoral degree programs and another campus in Hartford).

RPI is a research university - even if it is a smaller one - but each year RPI is graduating almost 5x the number of people a year than Hobart.  That adds up to a substantially larger alumni base to hit up for dough.  Particulary when a little less than half of those annual graduates are from professional schools (aka older with more work experience than your avg 22 yr old kid).

Don't get me wrong - the 55k salary is impressive to an extent.  I know it's definitely more than what I made my first job out of school.

But the kind of kid who would want to attend a school like RPI is probably the exact opposite of a kid who would go to a Hobart.  The schools are way too different - neither better nor worse - to really make a comparison.

After that post, that obviously took some time and expurrtiece to place together, don't think you can bash the guy for spelling a word wrong.

Hell, half the time when I go back and try to read my own posts, they don't even make sense to me!!!

Red Swarm, great post.
