GETSOME

I'd give all the tea in China to see Hobart play Alfred in a 2 men enter one man leaves Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome style format.

The LL needs to find you a woman....
One thing that could happen, and it will shake out later, we are starting to call it the sports version of "A Perfect Storm" is that on November 4th, in Geneva, the following scenario could take place:

Hobart Football vs Union...Huge game at Boswell
Liberty League Championship Game for Men's Soccer
Liberty League Championship Game for Women's Soccer
Liberty League Championship Game  for Field Hockey
Hobart Hockey vs Manhattnville

Whew....
And, and on campus kick off of the Colleges' Capital Campaign! Parking will be at a premium! All the best to the Statesmen and Herons today!

The Rev will be there for the football game, and may drop in on a couple of other games.  The Rev will not stick around for the capital campaign dinner.

ZA was very disappointed when Union's D could not stop Springfields QB the first game of the season, but perhaps no one can...On an a.m. radio station, listening to one of the college games yesterday, they announced that the "game day player of the day" in college football is from Springfield College...Chris Sharpe...280 yards rushing and 7 (yup, that was seven) touchdowns...Perhaps ZA was too hard on Union's D that night...Doesn't seem like anyone can stop this guy!

Union had Springfield beat it seemed, but they kept running Chris Sharpe and Springfield came from behind and won.

AND, the QB also threw two long passes right on the money....

Hey John,

How'd that chili turn out?  Did you sh!t for a week straight?  I trust you've moved on to lasagna and tater tot casserole now...

With Springfield beating Fisher the way they did, does Union look any better to the LLPPers? Yes Union has been squeaking by in their wins but one would have to consider their only loss this season is to what appears to be a very good Springfiled team.

What do you guys think?

GRO: We want a rematch in Collegeville.  Johnnies are rollin' today.  56-0 with the balance of the 4th qtr left.  Could have a triple monkey stompout...

No dice. 2 conference losses for RPI. Unless all hell breaks loose RPI is headed to an ECAC game at best.

How about a LL vs. MIAC all star game in the spring?

Though I'm not one for self-promotion (honest) -- I said it at the end of that broadcast and repeated it here...Springfield will go 10-0.  I had someone here berate me for that prediction (saying they couldn't run the E8 essentially).  I might not have played the game, but I know a good offense when I see one.  Does it make Union look that much better?  I've made my "Union could still back into a Pool C bid" claims based only on Springfield going 10-0 and Hobart being the other team to potentially beat Union.  So, in a sense, yes -- the Springfield loss has always given me some hope regarding Union's Pool C/Home Game in Playoffs scenarios.  Still a LONG way to go for all involved, though.

Springfield may very well go 10-0, but its tough to make that claim if you have't seen Alfred, Ithaca, or Fisher.

It's like me claiming that Hobart will trounce Union.
Thousands of fans join in the revelry, showing their Bomber pride and support for the football team. Some fans take the rowdiness a little too far, however, by starting fights, damaging property and tipping Port-a-Potties. -Ithacan, November 10th

Frank, ZA agrees now, that Springfield could go undefeated, however, like most teams in DIII, it doesn't appear their defense is very strong either.  So, anything can happen when defense is average to weak...Offense loses one or two key players and can't control the ball, the clock, etc...without strong "D", it's tough to go undefeated.  Bad calls, turnovers, etc....too much can go wrong on an offense and that's why "D" has to be able to force other offenses off the field.  And ZA doesn't see too many defenses that can dominate any of these offenses.

It's so tough to gauge initially when Union plays Springfield the first game of the season...Union basically scored at will.  But as stated, Springfield's QB was the entire offense.  Not to mention their usual great offensive line.

It's equally tough to guage RPI as they play Hobart so early in the season...It would be interesting to see RPI play Hobart late in the season as they do Union and see what team is really improving down toward the end of the regular season.

Overall, ZA still gives Hobart an edge over everyone because they appear to play more consistent "D" and ZA is obviously partial to teams with tough Defenses.

But, as you stated, you don't have to play the game to know the game enough to make observations such as Springfield going 10 and 0...

There's plenty of folks out there that played the game since 7th grade and don't understand what is occurring on the offensive line or the defensive secondary and frankly, would make horrible coaches.  Someone told me yesterday that Charlie Weis didn't play football because of some foot injury early in life...Don't know if that's true, but if so, there's an example...I'm sure there's many more!!!

Actually, here's a link on Charlie W.  http://www.answers.com/topic/charlie-weis

As always, Frank appreciates ZA's analyses.  Here's the kicker about Springfield this season compared to the last couple years:  Springfield CAN effectively throw the ball.  That's why I was so convinced, even with the football "margin of error" factor (penalities, trick plays, weather) that Springfield has more than the capacity needed to avoid the major "wruh wroe" in the heart of their season.  Springfield doesn't play a balanced offense, but it could if it needed to.  That's why this year's team is VERY dangerous.

And as a note...I've seen Ithaca play somewhat recently (NCAA Round 1) -- and it sounds like they are not any better than last year's team based on scores and analysis on here.  As for Alfred, they, too, sound about equal to last year's team.  Springfield is the only contender in the E8 that appears to have made a year-over-year MAJOR improvement.  So, yes, I haven't seen the 2006 Alfred or Ithaca teams...But I've been listening and I've got a little history to bolster my predictions.  Yet, as ZA says, anything can happen.

My buddy down here is a huge Bills and Yankees fan(from Buffalo).  Our bet on todays game includes the loser dressing in all Red Sox OR Yankees gear out to the bars next weekend.  Jerseys, hats, gold chains, the whole shibang.  Pats better cover today.

We are playing with the points which is currently New England -5.5 which is good for my account i believe.  Not only do I need them to win financially, but I need them to win for my well being.
