Does UR have a bee-keeping program?  And is it true that they travel with a box full of yellow jackets to their away games?  Kaz00 doesn't like needles and, by extension, getting stung by insects.  It will be especially difficult to defend my Pepsi from the yellow jackets as they take cover behind the snowflakes on Saturday.  Can we get a ruling on this before I break down like Jack Lemmon trying to get some of the Glengarry leads?

UR has nothing on Alfred when it comes to bees. The late Dr. Lloyd Watson experimented extensively with honey bees, developing a means of artificial insemination by which he could develop a better more productive honey bee. His dear wife Olive Watson took the honey and used it as the sweetener in candies that are still hand-dipped in Alfred today. Honey Pot Candies...wonderful confections of honey-sweetened fillings dipped in a variety of chocolates and shipped around the world. While historically the Honey Pot candies are believed to be a by-product of Dr. Watson's research, some have entertained the idea that Dr. Watson's work in developing a bee that produces more honey was merely a result of a husband addressing the first item of business on wife Olive's "Honey Do List."

GO SAXONS...Exterminate the Yellowjackets!
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

Union fans:

It is with a very sad heart that I announce the passing of long-time Union Athletics friend and benefactor Dick Roberts.  Mr. Roberts, who was inducted into the Union College Athletics Hall of Fame just a few weeks ago, provided unwavering support to the Dutchmen program, both as a booster and as a fan.  Mr. Roberts was a graduate of Union College in 1950 and held several posts described in an excerpt from his Hall of Fame induction statement below.  At this time, I do not have information on arrangements made to honor Mr. Roberts.  I will try to update this as soon as I become aware.

DICK ROBERTS
Inducted in 2006
Dick Roberts' ('50) contributions to Union College Athletics were remarkable long after his playing days for the Dutchmen came to an end. He was known for his excellent defensive skills and assists on the basketball court of Alumni Gym, and was a co-captain and the recipient of the Bailey Cup, symbolic of leadership, after his 1949-50 senior season. Yet, he continued to define the word "assist," as a legal advisor to the college, a member of the Board of Trustees, an Athletic Advisory Committee representative, a fund raiser, athletic booster, and an ambassador of Union College. His devotion to his alma mater, and the college's athletic department, is unparalleled.

TGP send his condolenses to the Union family on the loss of Mr. Roberts '50.

Question from TDT: Is the Shoes game played every year as the last game on the schedule for both teams?  Or is it mixed into the rotation of games on the LL schedule?  Inquiring minds from the MIAC want to know.

Also, GRO: These Rucks wings...Are they better than BW3?  Do you get a bunch of sauces and blue cheeshs to pick from?  Boneless wings too?  Lots of TVs or more old-style tavern?

RedTackle you've been to Collegeville and the surrounds...Can we get a comparative analysis?  TDT is strongly considering a trip to the Shoes game in the coming yrs...
Chasing MILFs since '82...

Used to be the 4th-5th game of the year, at least in Gro's time (97-01) moved to the final game when the UCAA became the LL and added 3 members. Not planning on moving it from what I know. While the game has always had league title implications, having it as the last game is a great thing. And sometimes the weather even cooperates.

Oh no you didn't. Never compare bar wings to franchise wings. BW3 is good. Very good considering you can get them just about anywhere. But ruck wings are the best. No variety either, they are just ruck wings. Bleu cheese is homemade secret recipie. Now there is a place across the river called rusty's that does all the different wings (garlic parm, terriaki, bukkake) those are good too.

The ruck also offers the wing burger. Burger + wing sauce + blue cheese = one tasty heart attack.

Yes. For the last couple of years, the 'Shoes' game has been the last game of the season. It used to be earlier in the year (week 4, RT thinks). When the LL was formed as a formal conference and an AQ was added, the powers-that-be who schedule the games moved this game to the end of the season because of the  regional rivalry implications and the thought that odds are generally high that this game will have serious post season implications. Case in point: 2005...Union and RPI enter the game each at 7-1 and the winner takes the league title and an NCAA berth..loser goes home

RT has never had BW3 but that is a big chain and gives alot of options. The Ruck is a gin mill, college bar. Couple tv's, dart boards, juke box, shuffle board. Nothing fancy....big deep fryer and grill behind the bar. But you just can't top these wings. Perfect crispiness and a sauce that is does justice to upstate/western NY as the birthplace of wings. Ruck wins and many beers is a good combo..

RT enjoyed Collegeville tremendously....the people were almost too nice in 2003. RT particulary enjoyed the bar scene downtown but trying to get a cab at closing time was impossible. In one of RT's legendary stories of all time, RT was with an intoxicated Apple Jack. RT saw the Tony's Pizza man and mistook him for a cab. RT played up the driver's sense of economics and conviced him that $20 to take 20 minutes and drive us to the hotel was alot more than the amount of tips he'd earn in the same time.  BTW...what's that bar out in the sticks with all the pool tables in the basement (like 50 of them) and the dance area upstairs???

ZA is addicted to LLPP! Last post after Union/RPI game, ZA was very direct at his disappointment at Union's predictability, especially on defense. Was "scolded" by another Union poster who told ZA to stop blaming the coaches for everything. ZA was going to make that his last post, but after reading 20 freakin pages of posts, ZA just can't stay away....LL Posters are without a doubt, the most creative and frankly, when its time to really talk football, they know how to talk football...But they also know how to have fun and promote comradre, even between intense rivals.  When ZA first started posting over a year or so ago, there was no way the LLPP was as tight as it is today and we owe that to the posters that have been here a long while before ZA ever started posting.

ZA makes no apologies for being critical of Union's predictability, especially on defense. This is an opinion based on experience, but that doesn't mean ZA is correct. Just an opinion. ZA believes wholeheartedly that Union will beat SJF, Hobart will beat Rowan and RPI and Rochester will win their games too. At least that's where ZA's loyalty will be....To the Liberty League...
