Jim Mandelaro, the columnist who allegedly misquoted Robinson, has been with the D&C for as long as I can remember. He's a very good journalist and, in my opinion, is not the type of journalist who "makes" news instead of reporting the news. I'm sure Robinson is probably claiming he was misquoted right now. I mean, he just called out Arcidiacono, put his defense on the line and made a dumb statement about how they've stopped everyone when, in fact, they just gave up seven rushing TD's to Chris Sharpe less than four weeks ago.

I respect the hell out of Robinson, he's a great back. I, like you, have also noticed in past columns he has seemed very humble in the face of his great accomplishments. Sometimes, though, people don't give the stock answers to the reporters that they should, and I think this may be one of those times.

Also, Tags, be very careful about calling Mandelaro a liar (essentially what you're doing when you say a journalist is misquoting a source). I incorrectly attributed something to him a couple of years ago and he emailed me about it to clear up the situation. I really don't think he misquoted Robinson.

Very well said.  I appreciate the candor of your post.

Ok, wait.

First of all, are we talking about a writer from the Rochester Deomcrat and Chronicle?  Id have to believe that he wasnt misquoted then, but what a stupid, stupid thing to say if it was said.  Man, Id be fired up if I were Union....

If you need an article to fire you up in the NCAA's there's something wrong.

'gro

how could the writer misquote all of his quotes? 1, ok... 2, maybe... there's theres at least 4 lines in there that make the kid sound pretty cocky.

Exactly. If anything, I've always viewed Mandelaro as a guy who has a soft spot for Fisher. He has written many glowing articles about the Fisher basketball and football teams. I really think if he was going to send that to print he was damn sure that those were Robinson's quotes. Accuracy is essential in journalism...you learn that stuff in college. Plus, I'm sure Mandelaro uses a tape recorder when talking to sources.

Union's been fired up -- got word of that a couple days ago from inside the team.  The RPI loss may have had a profound effect on the squad.  All quotes like those will do is add some more fuel to the fire.  However, my issue is that what should be a classic game between two teams could get mucked up by stupid statements surrounding one or both of these programs.  We saw a Union-based and SJF-based feature article today.  One showed us class...the other showed us some most likely questionable decision making.  I hope everyone on BOTH teams can take a lesson from that kind of gaffe.

Tags, who are you kidding.  These type of quotes can motivate and anger a team like no other.

tags I know you like mark...and from the mark I've met these are certainly not like him but what is said is said...and from what I know about the gazette they are even more kiss butt to union the mandlero is to fisher...so he might not have been asked any questions about the fisher defense or the corners or the wr's

I never said that.  But I believe that pregame speeches when done well, can motivate and anger a team to no ends.  And a quote like this would fire me up.  I would take it personal and rip someones head off.  I mean the guy basically called out the Union oline.  I wouldnt accept it.

I can't remember the exact quote, but Bob Weiner from the Daily Gazette said of Union after the F&M game that Union started their bye week a half game early.  That's not exactly kissing a team's rear end.  He is a very upstanding journalist, also, and he does not pander to the Union team as you suggest.  Be careful of careers about which you're making such unsubstantiated comments.

I don't think the article is what will have them motivated. I do, however, think he may have pissed some players off and added a little bit of an edge to Union's mentality. You just don't say that stuff before a big game.
