PBR...

opening line is colts -7 and the over/under 49.5....and yes caldwell eyes looked like he did about 5 white lines before the game.....

'gro

As gro was heading out of the ole subdivision this morning 2 cars had just rear ended eachother. Bystander lady had pulled over to check if everyone was ok, then she flags me down and asks if I could check on the other driver. Driver #2 is fine, but driver #1 (teenage girl) is bawling her eyes out like her dog just died on christmas eve. I mean, sure it was a scary situation but this girl cried at full blast for like 10min straight.

Obviously she didn't subscribe to the gro school of accident maintenance.

Pep is getting weepy-eyed even now as it was a year ago last Christmas that our old faithful mutt Princess was euthanized due to a heart condition. Now why'd you have to bring that up, 'gro?

IC Grad Pitches Best Super Bowl Commerical Idea

Gino  Bona, a 1995 Ithaca graduate has won the NFL's inaugural "Pitch Us Your Idea For The Best Super Bowl Commercial Ever. Seriously" contest.  Bona's winning pitch, which can be seen online, will be made into a 30-second commercial that will air during the Super Bowl XLI broadcast on February 4, 2007.

Now that Pep has gotten over losing his Princess....he's reminded of the last accident he had. Before the I-86 bypass was completed in Corning, Pep was headed from Alfred for RI to see family one wintry day, taking a young couple and their two children to their family in CT en route...was cruising along at 50 mph in the 1985 4-cyl. Caravan when at an intersection a car pulled into the area between the four lanes, paused, then continued into Pep's path....Pep hit brakes, swerved to right to avoid said car, which nevertheless careened into Pep's left front wheel, shoving the Caravan to the edge of an embankment. After checking to see that Pep's passengers were okay, he gets out to find a the 17-year-old girl driver bawling. "It's the first time I've ever been in an accident," she tells Pep, who asks, "And how long have you had your license?" To which the sobbing girl replies, "I just got it last week!"

Random thoughts

that was a good game.  not really any bad calls except roughing the passer on NE (edit... that was PI in the endzone).  I thought the colts were toast at 21-3.  Reggie wayne's almost fumble was reditkafied. Gro would not have gone for 2pts in the 3rd quarter.  Reche caldwell has the biggest eyes in humanity. Colts better watch out for devin hester.  Who was that chick behind the colts owner with the giant gym bag sized purse and permagrin?

You go for two at that point in the game -- if it's for a tie and if it's after midway of the third quarter, you need to try it.  You gotta go for two sometime and need to know how you need to manage the clock in the interim, so you go for it and then base your strategy on the result.  The looming nature of the needed two-point conversion is just one more weight on the team's shoulders that's not needed, even if you risk eventually going down by 9 points from an ensuing opponent's touchdown.  Benefits outweigh the risks at that point in the game under those circumstances.

And what the hell was their rationale?  Oh, they were never behind for the first 59 minutes of the game?  The referees failed to overturn the NE TD where the location of the receiver's heels on the chalk was questionable and the issue of a force-out was a little questionable (I think he was in-bounds, but just pointing out that the refs called the game both ways)?  To be honest, as far as I'M concerned, the Pats lost that game last night defensively -- blitz him til the cows come home.  He's extremely uncomfortable with the guys in his face, and while he may hit a homerun ball sometimes, he's also very liable to throw picks up the middle of the field.  No sour grapes, NE fans -- Great game, both on the field and in the refs' decisions for the most part.

I actually meant to write "cue Frank" after that line about the 2 pointer.  Gro's more of a "wait until the 4th qtr for the 2pt" kinda guy but sees your point about getting the pressure off early. They did it, they got it, no more worries.

I bet most colts fans were more than worried after they went 3 and out in their 2nd to last drive. They were lucky to get the ball back one more time.

EDIT:  gro usually complains about the replay officials. The calls on the field were good, and the replays were good too. Good work NFL. Now... if only CBS had somone with a pulse running the show. How many times during that endzone call did they
A. show the angle that was completely terrible?
B. show half the replay (like just the catch) then stop before you saw the receiver hit the ground (to determine if he had posession).

Yea.  The time the Pats did blitz though they couldnt get in.  They also dont have the LBs that can cover the colts 4th and 5th Wrs man to man and thats how they got beat in the end.

You do hear some stupid pats fans complaining about stupid crap but for the most part you really cant say anything.  The refs let a lot of stuff go.  Probably about 4-5 pass interferences against the pats and one really big one against the colts.

the guy was inbounds in the forceout call, and there wasnt anything you could say to legitimalty overturn it.

Brady, he didn't quit. None of us quit. I don't know. We beat those guys asses up and down that field last night! We got nothing to be ashamed of, right? Isn't that right? Maybe the scoreboard doesn't say it, but we won that game. We held them. It was just a fluke. That's all. It's just a fluke.

They could've also spot-shadowed and enlarged the area with the "Super Vision" shot (what is so super about it, I've yet to figure it out)...While the replay official couldn't have used that technology under the hood, at least the viewer would've had better insight for the 15 minutes we pondered the call.  I'd really like to see Boomer in the booth next to Jim Nantz -- Boomer isn't as annoying as Simms and, having done the radio game of the week for the last few years, he's a better commentator generally for football.  Simms didn't know what to say or how to handle those long replay situations all night.  Nantz was doing more color than Simms last night during those moments.

Could've flipped that argument a few years back during the "Tuck Rule" call.  Pats fans graciously accepted that apparently legitimate (at least under the rules) call.
