There was a ton of hype about Hideo Nomo when he came over. Japanese media was just as pervasive in LA in 1995 as they are now in Boston. His games were also shown on big screens in Japan. Nomomania in LA was compared to Fernandomania.

hey pat or other llpp'rs have any knowledge of iona's football team? type of offense/defense they run etc? anyone seen them in person? just wandering since dvc opens with them on the road. pbr read some about them on their website and they seemed to struggle at 3-7 last season just dont know that much about them

See thats gonna be part of the problem.  I dont care how nice that stadium is, you simply arent gonna get 50K on a tuesday night to see the Royals like you would at Fenway.  Still too far out of the way for a fan base to come in and sell out a stadium.

If I also remember correctly, most teams thought they would have to pay the guy 18+ million a year after the bid.  The Red Sox lowballed him, giving him a choice to go back to Japan another year for 3 million, and then rebid again in a process where everyone now knows the bidding price again.  So the Sox give him the 6.3 million this year and only a few more than that in years to come.

As LD pointed out earlier, the Yankees were going to outbid, and overpay Damon away from the Sox.  The sox could have signed him earlier but werent competing with the yankees for him.

Sure this guy is overpaid but he is producing.  And who is saying hes going to leave the sox for more money?  Why would that happen?  Manny, Shilling and now Drew are all very overpaid, but thats the game that has to be played by rich teams like the redsox.

I went to tropicana field last year and in centerfield is this bar/restuarant that looked like a private club.  But when I went up to the door, there was no one waiting so I walked right in and sat at a table at the sox game right up against the glass!  It was wierd and actually I liked watching the game from there.

re damon, yes the yanks overpaid and the were going to keep outbidding, but Damon is a Red Sox and was key to them winning, he would of signed with the red sox had they not low balled him

There were many many many many cellphone video moments that didn't happen during the last hater reunion in NC.  Gro's adventure at Arby's, LD's d**k in a box, a late night a capella session...   possibly next time there will be some youtube moments.

Im still going to assume that top lax players at Hobart (like Cornell and Princeton) arent paying the full price and probably get half the tuition paid for by "academic" scholorships.  But even with the rest paid for by loans, guys are going to choose a full ride at Ohio St, Fairfield or Albany than go to Hobart.

Although notice not that many Cuse area players on the Hobart roster.  Thats a problem.

I think that Fayetteville-Manlius would be a natural feeder to a place like Hobart, but I only remember two or three guys from F-M the whole time I was there.
