Looking for opinions and thoughts....

I have had a Dell PC for the last 10 or so years.....now looking to buy an iMac...more expensive, but comes loaded with software, Office 2004 for Mac runs an additional $150.

Security and service seem to be the main selling points.

Anyone......Bueller????

The Rev has both a PC and an iMac.

The iMac is cool.  It comes loaded with useful software, unlike the PC which came loaded with a load of crap I had to unistall.

My only gripes with the iMac are a)I hate the mouse, and b) I don't like the way iPhoto organizes the pictures.  Then again, I haven't read how to manipulate the photo storage, so mayeb I'm just a dumbass.

Do yourself a favor.  Spend the extra money on the upgraded video and memory.

It will take some getting accustomed to the iMac, but I like it.  Using the MS Office suite will likely make the trasition easier, because you will be working with familiar software.

The Rev does all of his on-line banking using the Mac because, as U89 said, the security is better on iMac.

And if you use Safari to browse the internet, you can click on "private browsing" so there won't be a record of you visiting uh-oh dot com or anything.

My wife is a teacher and has a Mac via school.  Only thing I don't like is there is only one mouse button, thus no "right-click" options there and easy at my fingertips.

Even for Arizona?  :o  ???  :D  :-\

Even for Arizona.  The Rev suspects that Arizona's Political Correctness is due to the massive influx of Californians who moved here for the cheap housing and drove up the housing market and pushed the "something-for-nothing" button and the state is sliding downhill fast.

The Rev needs to find a new paleo-conservative wonderland.  AZ is a goner.

Are there any safe havens left where brothers don't marry their sisters? JT would eventually like to move where his vote actually counts.  Not too many independent thinkers in the NY/NJ area.

Not too many individual thinkers left anywhere in the US of A anymore.

I don't think you will find anywhere in corporate america that thinks it's OK to use the term C in a blender......that's amature hour.

Yes, it is amateurish to speak with flavor.  The Rev is going to go back and make sure he puts the new cover sheet on the TPS reports, because that's what it takes to be a true professional.
Rev- Speak with flavor??  Reg wouldn't want to hear that phrase from one of his friends at a bar and would hate to be caught off guard at work hearing it.

Just do what Gro does and start using buzzwords that have no use for what he is actually talking about.

"Yes I used LEAN to help keep the workers safe."  Six Sigma is the ONLY way we communicate around here, it's science!"

No iMac feeback because Reg would never buy one, you tree hugging, cheeba smoking, frisbee chucking tech geek.  Besides how many motion pictures are you going to be producing this year?  Give Reg the internet, microsoft outlook, excel, adobe and a wireless aircard and I am set.

It's kind of like the Nextel thing.....when everyone else couldn't get enough of the BLEEP!!! BLEEP!!!, Reg stayed very far away.
Dell or IBM for Mr. "too serious" Reg

(Kung-foo grip)

PBR...

u89....pbr has both and both have their +'s....definetly get the upgrade to 1gig of ram with all the new software packages coming out you will need it for them to run so pay for the upgrade. storage size thats up to you but pbr has a ton of it but with all the music/videos pbr has on his ipod he is eating that up quickly and has purchased an additional external storage disk and will be moving all pbr's music/videos there.

Dude, quit it.  I only let the guys grab my butt.  Everything else was off limits.

LD, you can eat a spoonfull of my ass -- well done of course.  And reg... gro has a lean backhand in development ready for deployment to the frontline of your face.  I'll give you +k anyway for making me laugh.

Re: computers
Mac's major marketing point is that they are easy to use... what is so hard about using a PC? If you can't use the software reg described above then you don't need a computer in the first place. Buying a mac isn't going to turn you into rick ruben or martin scorcese (sp).

BTW, hop on the google bandwangon now before it becomes law. Gmail is good, and now they have picture storage, spreadsheets, etc.  Gro gives it 2 thumbs up well done and with blazing speed.

Gro- Reg loves your point....the other marketing point is the useless software that slows your computer down.  Oh yeah...let that be the determining factor in purchasing a computer.....becuase it takes all of 3 minutes to clear the stuff out of your programs list.  What if Reg wants to use windows messanger....that would be a -1k for the mac.

LD11- Did Reg miss something during camp when you were running 4.7's?  Were you running 40 feet or something?

You didn't miss anything.  Are you serious?

realistic

U89 - A little late on this, and a lot of good points have already been made but I thought I'd chime in.  Obviously anything creative you want to do would be easier, better on a Mac also use with ipods, etc are easier on the macs as well as security, lack of viruses.

If you are still leaning PC - I just got a new IBM Think pad at work and am very impressed.  I thought the small screen would both me but it is much clearer than the Dell Laptop that I had.  Also with the new video card, etc this one truly has Blazing Speed.

LD- Would it make you less mad if I put a bunch of icons to let you know it's only a joke?
;) ;) :D ;D ;D :o :o :P :P :-* :-*
Do you feel better now?
