my condolences....that's a terrible thing for family and friends to have to go through
Bman has never been a war protester...but Bman has to wonder why the H**l we are still there, especially since the cost means young lives lost, such as your friends...

Because like it or not.  Well planned or not. If we leave you might as well rename Iraq to Al Queda.  Most of the insurgents are now foreigners. Plus even if we "leave", we won't have realy left given the US bases that have been built.  The US will be there for a long, long time.

I blame the Bush administration for the initial poor planning and the Clinton administration for cutting the military so drastically, that we lack the manpower to deal effectively with our enemies.

Giving up means these men and women will have died in vain.  The military has no choice where they go, but if you decide to use them, you better let them win.  No politician ever won a war. Ask the average soldier in Iraq and he'll tell you they could win it if you let them.

wtf?? pbr cannot believe what clemens signed for w/ the yanks....20+ million....seems like sports are becoming the hired gun. how great for clemens no spring training, no cold weather to pitch in just show up a quarter of the way into the season and make a million bucks per start basically a million bucks a week...ol' georgie never ceases to amaze me...

How great for the Red Sox.  Cashman should go get Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver while he's at it.  The Yankees USED to know how to run an organization, now their Daniel Snyder mentality is doing nothing but giving them an even HUGE'R' total salary.  Clemens is 44 years old.  I bet he's nasty against the D-Rays though...  I know I can't wait for the Sox to face him in Fenway...

JT can't wait for Manny and Papi to try and dig in against Roger.  Or for a Yankee or two to be hit the day before Clemens starts.  JT remembers when Mo came about an inch inside off the plate and Manny almost jumped out of his tighty whities to get out of the way.  Then Manny grounded weekly to short.

If it were JT, first pitch to Manny is two inches inside right at the letters every time. Totally take him off his game.

If I were 'Mo', I might worry about getting that 8.38 ERA down a little first.  And I'd probably get a can of spray paint to cover up my dome.

We'll agree to disagree on this one...Bman does not discuss Politics (Intl or otherwise) very often.

Bman watched a very telling program on the pentagon channel the other night, (which is also generally the pro-military view on most things) in which they interviewed several combat troops.

When the question was posed to them, on whether they should be in Iraq, all but one did not support the war....

Now I understand that 10 or so interviews (and I obviously can't discount the potential interview or editing bias that could have occurred),doesn't in any way make a valid sample but it seems that there is also a sentiment among the troops, that they don't have much faith in the policy makers (read Bush) or the reason they are there.

Also, if we leave, and al queda pours in, what is the difference?  They are still operating semi effectively remotely, working in a consolidated mode, simply makes them a better target....

and NO troop, who responds to the call from his country dies in vain, regardless of the outcome of the conflict, if we keep them in our hearts, and make sure we do not forget their sacrifice.   By your logic, the 70,000 or so troops in Vietnam died in vain, which we know is not so....

Does Ron Popeil still sell spray on hair?  Mo will come around.  Hell, Pavano has been paid as much per start as Clemens.  Total of 18 or 19 starts over his 39 mil contract.  JT wants to shoot him.

I'd still give the pitching advantage to Boston at this point.  I don't know much about the Red Sox's bench, but the Yankee bench sucks.  This is perhaps the worst Bomber bench that JT has seen in years.  Any major injuries to the lineup and the Yanks are toast.

How about when former Def. Secretary John MacNamara writes in his autobiography that he, "Knew we couldn't win in Vietnam, as soon as we got involved."

Well why did he wait for 60,000+ men to die?

JT also saw an interesting show on the Pentagon and military contractors.  It went into how they wanted to avoid the mistakes of Vietnam.  It also detailed how they "industrial military complex" was planning to go back into Iraq after Desert Storm. How we were going to get a foot hold in the Middle East etc etc. Somehow we's find an excuse to go back in.

They were just waiting for the "right" administration to get us involved.  Now JT didn't endorse going into Iraq.  But we are there.  And too many politicians have been running this war.  Let the experts handle it.

Personally, JT thought Iran or Syria were better choices to go after first.  JT would have taken out the wacko in Iran before Saddam.  Iraq is too secular.  The average person in Iran is young and interested in Western advances.

OK off the soapbox.

its been a tough couple of days for pbr and his community as 2 local guys from pbr's junior h.s. and h.s. were killed in iraq. has the community reeling right now....both played football in h.s. in doylestown, pa. area and one went to johns hopkins and played football the other went to the naval academy. both officers and great leaders. such a waste of life and watching them bring the one coffin home at willow grove naval air station was heartbreaking. really makes you think sometimes whats important in life. both guys were in there mid 20s just a sad time here right now w/ candlelight ceremonies at night.

Thoughts and prayers.  Very sad news.

Sorry I'm late. I echo everyone else on the board. Hang in there.
