I am sure Suit and MR may have some objections to that one, but you never know.

NEWSFLASHVick indicted on dogfighting charges

July 17, 2007
BY ASSOCIATED PRESS
RICHMOND, Va. -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury on charges related to illegal dogfighting.

Vick and three others were charged with violating federal laws against competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting and conducting the enterprise across state lines.

Why would the Feds care about Vicks dogfighting?  Seems like a waste of federal resources to me.

Once it went across state lines it became a federal issue.  KS has seen the results of losing a dog fight in a vacant lot behind the college apartments in Jersey City and KS is glad they are going after him if he was involved with dog fighting.  Personally KS thinks the people involved should be put in a ring with the dogs and see how they come out.

Plus these guys aren't Nifong,  Federal indictments usually have teeth.  JT thinks:

1) They have a paper trail leading back to Vick

2) and/or someone flipped

3) Vick is in deep doo doo

They probably have something but an indictment, in and of itself, is not totally impressive.  The US Attorney gets to spend as much time as he wants behind closed doors with the grand jurors without anyone putting on cotrary evidence.  (People always say that a decent US Attorney could get a Federal Grand Jury to indict a ham sandwich).

I think the Feds took this up because the local authorities were dragging their feet so much.  I think there is a possibility that the local DA or local Judge (that refused to issue warrants) may end up embroiled in this somehow.  What else explains their reluctance?  Generally, these local guys are clamoring for this sort of national attention so they can cash in with a TV Show or Book Deal.

Two things:

1)  If Vick is guilty, TGP hopes he goes down and spends some time in the Federal Pen.

2)  Check out Wachovia's Fundamental Choice (formerly Pru's Strategic Choice)

Should TGP be concerned that so far the only Hobart player getting any pre-season love is our PUNTER?!?!?

JT saw this dood at Rowan last year.  His hangtime was sick. Definitely a preseason AA candidate.  One of the best DIII punters JT has seen, and JT's seen a bunch over the years.

Someone sent JT a link to this song.  It is soooo bad, but now JT can't get the crap melody or lyrics out of his head.  He dares the LLPP to give it a few minutes, then try to get the song of your head.  SFW

One of my HS teammates led DIII in punting at University of Chicago in 1991.  Had a 42.5 ypp ave.

No doubt Hobart's lucky to have a kid like Ancona on the squad.  Not only can he punt the ball a mile, he was very solid on kick-offs last season as well:

KICKOFFS              No.   Yds   Avg  TB  OB
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dominick Ancona   47      2436  51.8   0   3

Avg start for opps were from their 27.  Not bad at all.

I thought I remember the Feds taking the case away from local authorities early though.  But still, Im going to assume that every Southern State is going to have a unit within the state police that deals with animal fighting and investigations.  It would seem that the State of Virginia could have handled this on its own.  What are the federal dog fighting laws anyway?

union89

According to ESPN radio, dog fighting is illegal in 49 states......the only place it is legal is good 'ol Loooouuuusiana.  After the was they handled the hurricane, would you expect anything different??

Yea but federal indictiments would mean federal laws were broken.  I wouldnt think the Feds would even care about that.

I think the big one is transporting dogs across state lines for the purpose of fighting.
