So RT is back from a quick jaunt to the racetrack (Saratoga) for 4 races.  Well, RT is proud to report this was a CAREER day. Today was a special 'twilight' day...post time was at 2:45pm instead of the usual 1:05pm. RT came out of the gate strong w/ a $3 trifecta in the 1st that paid $184.00. Once RT was funded for the day, he relaxed and had a couple of Mojitos...especially a no-brainer to drink since RT walked over.  2nd race, RT played a $5 flat bet Win/Place and another $3 trifecta. The place bet paid $13.00 so RT lost a couple of bones but no biggie. 3rd race, RT goes $10 Win/Place on medium odd (6-1) horse he likes and he got caught on the rail and couldn't break so no payout there.

4th race...now this is where RT earns his pay. RT spends about 20 minutes handicapping this race to weed out the muck. There's a couple of chalks (favorites for the novice horsemen) at 2-1 and 5-2 but RT isn't biting. This is a 6  furlong Maiden race for $62,000 ..so it's a crap shoot and RT is looking for value. RT is combing through past performances and recent workouts and one horse jumps out and punches RT in the face. Good speed in 2007 but lost a couple of close races in tough conditions and went through a couple of jockey changes...RT decides to spend some money and puts together a 4 horse trifecta combo. Did a part wheel with 2 horses on top of 3. Bet cost $8 for $1 bet. Trifecta comes in ....RT wins $2400!!!!!!!    After going to IRS window, RT cashes out $1500...RT decides it's time to walk home.

The outing tonight with the 10 hens is looking even more promising!

See Gentlemen of the LLPP?!?!?

THAT'S HOW RT ROLLS!!!

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

JT would say luck and skill (handicapping) paid off for RT.  Kinda like if JT was rolling on Blackjack or hold 'em, only JT can't roll with more than FMJT.  Here's hoping RT breaks out his Ohh face with one of the ladies.

luck certainly superscedes skill in all aspects of RT's life. For example, RT tested the gambling gods when he should'nt have by getting onto Youbet.com when he got home and played the 7th race because RT was "feeling it". Only spent about 5 min handicapping this one (poor skill), dumped about $20 on a long shot exotic bet (poor judgement), and his show horse got bumped at the end and we lost the bet and got no payout (poor luck).  Oh well..that's why there's tomorrow, Sat & Sun!!!!  Stay tuned for the next race...the Grade 3 Lake George stakes....RT is about to handicap.......

Senor RedTackle

ok...RT will throw this out there at 6:09 ...23 min before the 8th race. RT is working on his bets but as of now, we've narrowed this down to the 1 (5/2), the 3 (17-1), the 8 (9-1) and the 10 (4-1) are in the mix out of a field of 11. Good value here with one chalk ( the 1 horse) and some others trying for a slice. ....will update soon

Senor RedTackle

Ok...RT's last race so we went like this:

$1 trifecta:  1/10 with 1/8/10  with 1/3/8/10....$8 total
$1 exacta (box): 1/8/10  ........$6 total

$5 Win:  1
$5 Win: 10

Total: $24

Senor RedTackle

Results in....10, 6, 7, 8. The trifecta and exacta didnt hit but RT's flat bet on the 10 horse covered us here with $19 winnings so the damage was only $5 down on this race. That's all for RT until 8pm when he hits the harness track tonight in town.........

RT where do you watch the races from?

And Im not getting how your $1 trifeca 3-4 horse wheel bets paid off at $2400?

Or was that a race with 20 horses?

RT lives 4 blocks from the track so RT either walks/rides bicycle there to watch, goes over to the harness track simulcast place w/ the nice bar (another 3 blocks from RT), or sits at home and uses his YouBet account to wager online and watch the race via streaming video.

The $1 bet was a part wheel....RT keyed 2 horses over 3 horses. So either of the 2 horses picked had to win, then the other 3 in the back end of the part wheel had to finish 2nd & 3rd. They were all long shots and the $2 triple paid $4800...since RT bet $1, he got half of it.

Are the races crowed now?  Can you go right up to the rail (or second fence or whatever) to watch em?

Ok you picked 2 specific horses to win and wheeled the other longshots.

I used to go to the track more, and keep telling my self that one day Im going to learn how to handicapp for fun.  I did hear that in the Kentucky Derby two years ago, if you picked one of the favorites to finish in the top 3 and wheeled the other 18, the payout was almost 140K for a $2 trifecta wheel at $700 bet or likie 66K for a $1 trifecta at $350 total bet.!  I think that was the one where Giacoma won at a 50-1.

Regulator

Sorry guys but a $4200 tri is nearly unheard of.  Superfectas rarely even get that high.

So...one of two things happened.
-RT thought he was betting a different race
-Each of the 9 girls he was supposed to go out with texted him their favorite number and he played them

There is no way to handicap a freaking 4200 tri.....pure luck.

Hey JU-

Try using that strategy for every other KD in the last century and let me know how you end up.

The Rev's Report

a) The Rev had a philosophy professor back in the day (when Rev was going to become a real rev), Fr. Kenneth Slattery, who is one of the world's greatest handicappers.  He is a regular at the Belmont.  Has his own seat there.  Is such a regular that the owner of the Belmont converted a chapel so that Ol' Slats can say Mass for the horse-groomers before races.  That's how Ol' Slats rolls.

b) The Rev hopes RT brings a new lady home to his pad and tells the FFMRT to beat it so that he can make time with this fit new bird.

c) The Rev had a bad day.  About one block north of The Rev's office there was a helicopter collision.  Two news helos were following a police chase and crashed into each other over the park.  The Rev got a call from the FAA, ran up to the park, and gave directions to the FAA to get to the crash scene.  Rev waited for the FAA dood, introduces himself when FAA dood arrived, and no sooner than the Rev and FAA dood shook hands when The Rev was asked to leave the premises.

Don't feel bad for the Rev, whose only injury was a minor bruise to his pride, two pilots and two cameramen died in the crash.  It really hit the Rev when he was standing there looking at the wreckage and suddenly pages from the pilot's Jeppeson Guide started blowing all over the place.  The Rev started picking them up when The Rev realized that despite being about 50 yeards from the burnt up main rotor, there were pieces of helicopter all around him.  At that point, The Rev could feel his mind starting to overload, so the Rev was actually kind of glad to get out of the area.

Well I think you would have predict 1 or 2 mid-range favorites to not place.  I dont think you would do that bad although the trifecta payoffs might be around 1-3K instead.

"In the 2006 Kentucky Derby second-choice Barbaro (6-1) finished first followed by Bluegrass Cat (30-1) and Steppenwolfer (16-1) with favorite Sweetnorthernsaint finishing out of the money. Again, wheeling Barbaro for first, second and third with the additional 19 runners in the field would have cost you $1026. The 2006 Kentucky Derby Trifecta of 8-13-2 returned $11,418.40 for a $2 trifecta wheel and $5709.20 for a $1 trifecta wheel. Again, a healthy profit of $4683.20."

But that again you would have still had to have picked barbaro and left the other favorite (sweetnorthernsaint) out of your wheel....
