word on boston.com is that sox are trying to work out a deal for gagne.  surprising considering papelbon is our closer.

Not really. He'll make a nice 7th inning setup guy.

Starter goes six, Gagne goes the 7th, Okajima the 8th, Paps to close and the game.. is.. over.

that would make sense except that gagne has been pretty vocal about being a closer.  could be trouble in the clubhouse.

check that - olney reports that gagne is cool with being a set up guy:

"agreed to be Boston's set-up man after the Red Sox restructured the reliever's contract."

whew - he should be a little flexible.  to get traded to a division leader with 1/3 of the season to go?  not a bad deal for EG.

I think if he voids his no-trade clause, he'll be accepting his role.  not to mention, Papelbon hasn't been available some games this year, since tey are babying him a bit.  Gagne could fill that void.

'Sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney that the Red Sox and Rangers agreed in principle on a deal for Texas' closer. In exchange, Boston will send pitcher Kason Gabbard and minor0leaguer outfielders Engel Beltre and David Murphy to the Rangers.'

It's official...

JT Yanks already traded Proctor to the dodgers for Wilson Betimit.  Looks like Joba is coming up soon.

Kinda bummed to see Gabby go b/c the kid was filling in pretty well.

Still, if Gagne can stay healthy, our bullpen is just straight up

FILTHAY!!!

you do know how to hurt a phightin phils phan JT ....not cool!!

JT was actually pulling for the Phils in 1980 cause he hated KC and in 1993 cause he hates any country where they say aboot.

Plus Schmidt's snot bubbling retirement announcement is a classic.

F'n Farnsworth why can't he be gone, piece of **** could have broken Posada's wrist on Monday night.  I hate the guy. Scouts say Betimit is decent but nothing special.  We'll see.

The real reason JT disrespects the Phils, is that they would be on pace for a 100 win season, win 10 in a row, then come to a 10 game under .500 Philly during interleague play, and get swept and run out of town....and Bman LOVED watching his buddy, constantly berate O'Neill during the games and watch him get pissed off....like the little crybaby he was....

I think the Sox are secretly geniuses in their slow bringing up of Lester, knowing they wanted him in the rotation, and hoping Gabbard would perform well so he could be trade bait.  Gabbard has been good, but he was expendable.  Especially for Gagne.  I think they just made their bullpen stiff enough for a world series run.  Now if they can just avoid these friggin 0-2 runs scored games they have like 2 out of 10 games.

With my first summer vacation of not having a whole lot to do, I'm trying to get into some new shows.  I've had HBO for a little while now, and love Entourage, and tried John From Cincinnati (although I wasn't too impressed).  I've heard good things about Flight of the Conchords.  Any thoughts?  Or any other suggestions from other networks?

Flight of the Conchords is hit or miss. Sometimes its hilarious. you just have to "get it".  Other summer shows:

Rescue Me on FX (you'd have to watch the other 3 seasons on DVD, great show)

Rock of Love on Vh1 - ex-strippers and soon to be B level porn stars live in a house and get wasted 24/7 in order to sleep with... Bret Michaels?

Rock of Love sounds like a definite winner.  Is it on like the MTV shows, a.k.a. 4 times a day so I don't have to worry about missing it/dvr'ing it?

I'm a huge fan of the FX shows.  Rescue Me is great, love The Shield, and still watch Nip/Tuck, even though it's gotten a little far-fetched after the first season.  Thanks for the heads up 'gro.

So PBR.... Can you speak for PBR nation about the allure of this frosty beverage in the blue and white can?  And what do you know of these hipsters that loyally support it? There is a good number of PBR drinkers in TN, and not the kind you'd expect (i.e. mullet) These are 20 somethings, they love it.

From Wikipedia (so you know it's 100% true)

By 2001, sales of the Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) had fallen to less than 1 million barrels, about one-tenth its peak in 1975. In 2000-01, Pabst sales executives noticed that sales in Portland, Oregon of PBR were growing, without any marketing or explanation. Further research found a local Portland bar had changed its offering to Pabst after a local beer went off the market. It was found that the local community was made up of a large counterculture along with working class people and college students who had adopted Pabst as their brew. Soon other bars in the area started to offer Pabst as their less expensive beer (Portland being famous for its high-end Microbrews) From Portland PBR has become popular again, specifically in Philadelphia, but also in San Francisco, Seattle (cities known for their large hipster populations), Richmond, Minneapolis, Omaha, Memphis (cities with a respectable counterculture, but also associated with the working class) and other cities with consumers who are anti-marketing, notably the New York City neighborhood of Alphabet City and the Brooklyn neighborhood of Williamsburg.

Enginegro,

Clearly this is really bothering you.  The LLPP will get to the bottom of this.  TDT remembers this being a popular beer to drink for the hippie, tree hugging set at St. Johns.  Certainly not the wholesome taste of an ice cold ML but not a bad brew.

RE: Jimmy John's Subs

Do you cats have this franchise around you?  TDT has heard both extremely positive reviews and not so good as well.  Weigh in LLPP.

PBR is a fine inexpensive brew.  It is the first beer that KS ever tasted, it was papa KS brew of choice.  KS used to get sent into the liquor store to buy dad a pack of smokes and a six of pbr.  KS doesn't know about hipsters or whatever drinking PBR, KS just likes the brew.  It is especially good for camping and drinking when buring stuff.

gro no science needed here baby just the facts...pbr went on a surfing vaca in oregon in 2001. pbr took in the nightlife in portland and when pbr saw the suds those granola eaters were drinking he set them straight and pbr was soon locked in as the brew of choice. pbr returned to his roots and philly area to get the boyz straightened out and turned them loose on the pbr. soon thereafter the masses saw and tasted what pbr was preaching there was no need to look any further pbr was the brew of choice. just look at the beer pbr brews, old milwauke, lone star, strohs, schlitz, natie bo, old style, stag, and of course the cold 45 (billy d. williams wouldnt lie to us in telling us how great c45 was)....now pbr has not been to san fran to see why the ones basking in the alternative lifestyles are so accepting of pbr maybe someone else here can chime in on that one....

Damn you firefox!! gro had a complete explanation of the situation surrounding my intrigue with PBR (the beer). Session had timed out.

Well, to each his own.  Gro drinks anything at the bar, ML at home and Labatt/Molson when in NY... Milwaukee's Best Ice was the drink of choice from around 1995-1999. It's funny the way people get attached to certain brands.

That one sociology class gro took at RPI is paying off, thanks Professor Restivo!

PBR, you missed a big one especially down south, unless they don't make it anymore.  Red White and Blue.  The can looks just the same but instead of Pabst is says Red White and Blue.

KS must retract above statement, Red White and Blue is now made by Miller, still a worthy beer.

KS band played a bar in Old Tappan a couple of times that had 2.00 pints of PBR draft.  MKS drove home those nights.
