first off... I can't blame App. State for anything at all they were not supposed to even be in that game...  Michigan sucks... Lloyd Carr, Chad Henne and Michael Hart will never ever be able to live this loss down... if michigan does not compete in the big 10 this year then I think Llyod carr has sealed his fate to be fired this year

Superman is as salty as ever this season...and it's only September.  I'm scurrrrred!

Ill argue.

How is that stat bogus when every once in a while the LL teams (sorry if you didnt know that I meant RPI, Union, Hobart, St. Lawrence, Rochester and the boys) have losing seasons?  So when I make a prediction as to how the east teams will be, I can say I think (LL team A) will have a losing season because I know it has happened before.  Ithaca hasnt had a losing season in 40 years!  Thats important.  Ithaca has proved EVERY YEAR that they will give any team a game and they do.  Not so true with the LL teams every year like the bombers.

Someone will have to confirm this, but Rolevio believes Union hasn't had a losing season since the late 70's

Rolevio.....beat me to this point.

I'll try to make this weekly this year, but here are my Top 10 observations about football and random other things from the past week (in this case, weeks, since I've been a little MIA the last few):

1) I was lucky enough to meet the Redtackle family on Travers Stakes weekend... and oddly enough, I haven't heard anything from him since.  I hope he wasn't mad about the super glue I put on his bench area before I left... I'm sure the Garnet U he had stuck to his ass came off with three or four washes.

2) I saw KMack's post about where he thinks the LL belongs this year in terms of general rankings.  I'm not going to argue with his logic currently.  The LL (and, for that matter, the E8) both have to prove that even when they graduate superstars, they can re-tool without the need to re-build for a season or two.  2007 proves to be pivotal year for both conferences in the balance of power that is D-3 football.

3) Springfield at Union will be one of the most-covered regular-season D3 games ever.  Officially, the game will be broadcast on the Union end on both 1160AM WABY and 89.7FM WRUC (same broadcast simulcast on both).  It will also be streamed via Teamline and both stations' internet streaming services (all free).  I believe Springfield will have the game covered by their radio, as well (and probably an Internet stream).  I also believe that there will be two video streams of the game (more info as I get it) from Union and possibly from D3Football.com's new East Region Game of the Week coverage (Pat, correct me if I'm wrong -- as I know you will :) ).  Is it overkill?  Maybe.  However, it's a big game and a nice way to kick off the 2007 Dutchmen season (7pm Saturday night).  Hope you all listen/watch in person or over the airwaves.

4) An oddity I believe exists that may salvage Michigan if they can somehow run the table:  in many cases, power rankings will not include games against non-division (and subdivision) opponents.  Thus, when the BCS computers add everything up, the only points Michigan will lose will be from pollsters -- and they may not hinder Michigan terribly if Michigan were to win out.  Their season is not over, but let's face it -- the Big Ten is a tough conference this year.

5) The rule changes this year are somewhat interesting.  First, the 30-yard line kickoff should have been used only for D1 games -- little by little, lower division games are going to have an Arena Football feel to them, minus the nets.  Also, the 15-second play clock after TV timeouts is a bit ridiculous since the end of a TV timeout is not something always predictable.  I've seen a good number of teams choke on this one already.  Finally, they got one right when they reversed the "clock rolls on the change of possession" rule from last year.  One out of three ain't bad...for baseball.

6) Speaking of baseball, can anyone figure out the Yankees this year -- or for that matter, the Devil Rays?  Yankees can sweep the Sox, and then look awful against TB -- and Seattle yesterday.  TB seems to always win against Boston and New York, but nobody else.  No wonder everyone finishes around 0.500 in baseball.

7) I need a snap diagnosis.  For 2 1/2 weeks, bad pain eminating from the right shoulder blade (scapula) region.  When working out chest, shoulder refuses to engage -- so workout is virtually impossible -- yet, the shoulder does not hurt during the workout.  Worst of pain is when I wake up in the morning and when I'm seated, somewhat hunched over the keyboard.  Full range of movement is available.  Any ideas?  Doctor seemed useless, and the muscle relaxers kicked my ass with no noticable difference.

8 ) For only the second time in 13 seasons of covering Union games, I'll be flying to a game.  I'm using JetBlue to get from JFK to ROC in a few weeks...and I Pricelined a hotel room.  Net/net, the cost is almost the same as training to home in Saratoga, driving to the game, driving back and training home to NYC.  I'll blog the experience that weekend for you all.

9) Saw the movie "Hostel" last night on Showtime...I don't recommend watching it before bed.  Wow.  I'm just mad that he went back and saved the girl -- only to have her jump in front of the train...ungrateful b...uh...woman. :)

10) My goal this season is to meet at least one faithful PP poster at every away game this year.  I think we have Muhlenberg covered.  I'm looking to meet folks at Rochester, St. Lawrence and USMMA this year.

That's just my useless rambling self...feel free to expound on any.

Quote from: Jonny Utah on September 04, 2007, 10:33:40 AMWhens the last time IC got to play an LL team at home?  I wont even look it up but Im going to say IC is probably like 25-0 against LL teams at home over the last 25 games.   In fact, has IC ever lost to an LL team at home?

JU is right.  The LL cannot win at Butterfield.

The Bombers haven't lost to a NYS private college on South Hill since 1983 (When former IC Offensive Coordinator Brian Angelicho quarterbacked the Larries to a W over Butterfield's Boys).

In the time since 1983 the Bombers are 48-0 against private NY colleges at home.  18 of those 48 wins have come against current members of the Liberty League (including 2 over Union...one in the playoffs).

We could make ourselves dizzy going around in circles on this one, but Union has a WINNING streak going against Ithaca......Ithaca has a LOSING streak going against Union.

Re:  Michigan App State..

Hasn't really been mentioned but for sheer athleticism, how about the one-handed scoop from the guy who blocked the kick..  Think his kids will see that one replayed when he's 40?  However I can see his son now.... "you couldn't take that to the house??  You said you were fast?"

Also as bad a technique as you'll see from a wing blocker.  Rule #1 take the most inside threat.. you never block "out".

This means we will have to recruit someone from the USMMA, WPI, and Rochester to post before Union meets them this year.  I think you're screwed.

Frank,
T minus 4 days to the Dutchmen opening game of the '07 season.  Any thoughts or rumors on who will be taking snaps from center for the team with the winning streak versus Ithaca??

Reg, it's cool.  You go to the ND game and we'll house/boat sit for the weekend.  Sellout.

A couple of things....

#1- when Reg saw the one wing man blocking out I wanted to reach through the TV and punch the kid in the head.  That is about the most amature block I have ever seen.  Xtra point 101, step in...get a hand on the outside man.  Do you know how many times Reg heard that over a 4 year period?

#2 What are the odds that Syracuse comes out wearing this rediculas orange costumes?  The odds are 3:1 That they don't.....at least I hope they don't.  To be a good team and look bad is one thing. To suck and look like you are dressed up for a pop-warner game is another.

#3 Reg sees no harm in the 30 yard kickoff.  At least now there will be more scoring.  It's only 5 yards anyway.  I don't see how it makes that big of a difference.  Now kickers in D3 may have to start working out, rather than trotting around the field with just shoulder pads on kicking field goals and leaving early while everyone else is working hard.

Bman thinks you guys are neglecting to mention St Lawrence's winning streak stretching from 2006 back to 1991..(discounting of course those small abberation years of 2005,2004,2003,2002,2001,2000,1999,1998,1997,1996,1995,1994,1993, and 1992) :)

Little Known Facts...

Lost in the shullfe of the app state victory was a nice forshadowing game on Thursday 8/30.  D2 power Carson Newman came to D1-AA average joe UT-Chattanooga and beat them on their field. reguardless of division, beware playing teams that are used to winning.

Chattanooga is in the same conference -- the SoCon (southern coference) -- as App state. Gro has known about app state for 2 years since the D1-AA champ game is here in Chatt and they bring a ton of fans for the game. It has sold out the past 2 years. Another SoCon team is the Citadel who beat run of the mill Arkansas in what was the biggest upset prior to ASU/UM.

now you know!

Reg would much rather see a funny picture like the Union kicker and quarterback hugging.  Reg doesnt think the picture posted is appropriate for the LLPP

This happened to JT.  Does the arm/shoulder have a dull ache?  Like just the weight of your arm as you are sitting makes it hurt as the day goes on?  Could be one of the small muscles around the shoulder.  The bigger muscle probably masked a strain happening to a small muscle when you were working out of lifting something wrong.

JT found sleeping in a lazy boy for a few days the right remedy.  Along with your choice of balm and significant quantities of scotch.  The lazy boy seems to have the right angle because fully prone in bed hurts too.

A sling during the day would help too.
