BubDad-
If you want your son to get any play time while at SU, you may want to make sure that you remove his last name from your profile before posting.

Thanks, I'm sure you're right, new to all of this. Just very frustrated already, we haven't been thru a losing season yet and watching this team lose is harder than I thought it would be. I'm going to switch to the Oprah site and have a good cry about it (thought I would beat you to the punch on that one).

BubDad,

+1k for being a good sport.  While losing may take its toll on the team, just look at a team like fisher who went from sir sucks alot to sir kick everyone a**es in less than 3 years.

being a non player I'm going to through this question out...what makes a player want to go somewhere like Utica, Norwhich, or SusQ...don't they realize that these teams are bad...

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Opportunity to play right away, thats why I picked SJF over every other team when they were 3-7.  I knew I could go in there and have a pretty good chance to walk in and play.  Too bad I blew my knee out 5 games into the 2002 season vs Hartwick.

The facilities were a factor, but the biggest thing is that I wanted to play now and it was close to where I was living at the time.

Exactly!
My son saw a really good school, nearby, where he had friends and might have a chance to play sooner.

My shock upset of the year is Susquehanna over SLU on 9/22...So, don't get so depressed before the first league game.  And most of all, remember -- your son is playing solely for the love of the game and his team now; less than 0.1% of D-3 players get drafted at all, so don't get too down on the situation -- it'll feed through to your son and the rest of the team while they're supposed to be building memories and enjoying what they can from each season.  Keep the faith!

Another comment BubDad

You mentioned twice he went to a school were he had friends.. well I can tell you that the friends he makes playing ball ....some of them will be close friends for life.

And the bonds he forms with those guys he struggles with on the field are special.

Thanks,
I have been keeping it in that's why I'm crying on your shoulders. How do I help him? He played from freshmen year in high school and never went 0-2 in his life. I can see in his face that it's hard for him, he's the kind of kid that is happier playing and losing than watching and winning, but watching and losing is new and difficult.

tell him to take it out on the practice field...that is gonna be the best way to get his frustrations out...

Good advise, just having a tough time watching him go thru such an intense transition. I'll try taking my best advise to him so far.

It's all relative.  Going 0-2 sucks but as TGP is sure you know, life comes at you a lot harder than that.

Struggling in his football (or any) career is inevitable.  It's how he handles the set backs that will define him as a man.  In the grand scheme of things it will make him tougher when he's older so when he's 10+ years out of school, with a wife, 2 kids, and a (big b/c that's how the LL rolls) mortgage working for a company that's all over the press and crapping the bed, and the same week 50% of his buddies get laid off, he also has to put down the family dog and explain it to his 3 yr kid; losing a couple of football games back in 07 won't be such a big deal.

BTW - thx TGP just saved $150 for not having to go to the shrink.

Ok - TGP now has to go watch MNF West COAST KNOWS HOW TO PARTY

Woooo!

StLarry completely understands, Bubdad.  Back in the day when StLarry was a senior in HS, his team went undefeated and was ranked #1 in MD.  At SLU, we didn't win a game the first two years, and it was excruciating.  The only thing you can do is bring that winning attitude from HS and try to get every one else to bring it every day in practice.  The wins will come of a core group of guys can really show that they're in it for the long haul and they're there to win.  That's the best I've got.
