As usual, nice work Frank.

Hobart may not be in control of their own destiny as far as the LL goes, but if they win out (which in theory is something they do "control") they should be able to earn a Pool C bid with a 8-2 record with last second losses to 2 potential league champs/Pool A winners.  However, TGP also realizes that Hobart could go 8-2 and still get overlooked if certain scenarios play out (see 9-1 Cortland from a season ago).

The biggest game on the schedule obviously is Alfred (especially if the Saxons are still undefeated at that time and ranked in the Top 20), but Hobart basically has no room for error.  A third loss is pretty much a ticket to an ECAC bowl in a best case scenario.

I think it's 85/15 against Hobart entering the Pool C field with two losses.  The reason:  for Pool C to apply to Hobart means that the entire LL has had a collapse.  It looks like there will be a suitable second team coming out of the E8 currently (assuming things play out as most expect) and another second team from the NJAC is very possible still.  If this is true, then look at the bracket for the East:

1) NEFC
2) LL
3) E8
4) NJAC
5) MAC
6) 1 Pool B, likely from ACFC
7) E8 Runner Up
8 ) NJAC Runner Up

For Hobart to enter the Pool C field at 8-2, I think the NJAC would have to similarly implode for the committee to have to look at the lesser of two evils.  It's still very early, but I think Hobart's only way in is not through the back door this year.

(Edit:  Of course, if Hartwick somehow beats Alfred this weekend, maybe this changes things a slight bit, but then there's the SJF issue we have to consider.)

Winningest Wittenberg

The small college with the most wins in football history is Wittenberg of Ohio (over 650 at this writing). The Tigers won national championships in 1962,'64, '69, '73, and '75. Their record for the 1990s was 86-17-1; but for the 1890s, it was 27-28-2, for an overall Nineties 113-45-3 (71.5 pct). Another fine football program is Augustana Ill., which posted a 71-23-0 mark in the 1990s, but only played two years in the 1890s. University of Colorado posts an interesting record -- 126-56-4, or a 69.2 winning pct. -- but forfeited all 11 games in 1997; their record would have been well over 70 pct otherwise. Many schools experienced this forfeit problem, because of using illegal players.

Other leaders include Union College (NY) (82-18-0, 82 pct, in 1990s, unable yet to find the 1890s info if there is any). Also, Rensselaer (RPI), 73-21-2 in the 1990s, but 7-33-4 in 1890s for overall 80-54-6 or 59.7 pct; Ithaca, with an 80-28-0 record in the 1990s (won the NCAA title in 1991), but no record of the 1890s yet; Williams and Cortland could also impact our final figures...

If that's next year's color commentator situation, then 2 things need to happen...

1)make sure that there's a camera doing periodic pans to the broadcast booth (ala Monday Night Football)

2) RT needs to be invited back for special "guest" spots on WRUC

Relax, it's not who you're thinking of.  Alex is somewhat more distant than that in terms of the family tree.

As for U89's posts regarding this, I've tested him twice on the road so far, and I'm pleased with his maturity on the air already.  He played in high school and is very objective when it comes to what goes on at field level.  At this level, there is no mistake to be made as to who the people in the booth represent in the first place, so the only question is whether or not the folks in the booth are making things up or completely omitting certain things that are happening on the field or around the program.  As long as the play-by-play and color guys at Union recognize that neither of those is appropriate and they are both very adept at the broadcasting end of things, then I have absolutely no problem with them being on the air, homers or not homers.  I think it's the excitement they can interpose into the broadcast that makes it enjoyable for the listener -- and if a parent from the opponent's team doesn't like it, then either flip to the other broadcast OR make sure your school has one put in place for the next time.

It's taken me 13 seasons to become as objective as some believe I am, so trust me -- it's not something you're born with when you're broadcasting games regularly for you own school.

Frank, as always, thanks for your candid feedback.  U89 just does not like the idea of two family members of a teams head coach broadcasting a game on the school radio station.  SOME objectivity must be present and I can not trust two blood relatives of the head man to bring that to the table.

Just my humble opinion, but I see that situation as a joke.....this coming from a guy who likes Coach Audino.

PBR...

kinda agree u89 but give them a chance...george paterno was brutal on joe at times and the team...cant imagine what george would be saying this year about joe and the team...rest his soul....

Remember that ultimately, it won't be two Audinos in the booth - This is it for Carm and me.  We're trying to get a good transition in place, as per our agreement with U Athletics this year.

When we started the commercial broadcasts on WABY three years ago, it was a temporary thing in the first place until Union could get WRUC back on the right track.  Unfortunately, the WABY broadcasts became taken for granted -- so when we said Season 3 was the end of things, WRUC wasn't near the position it needed to be in for professionalism, consistency and range.  In January and then this summer, we all discussed the best course of action to take, and I volunteered, as did Carm, a fourth season as long as they put some work into getting WRUC off the ground in time for the 2008 campaign.  So, we were really supposed to be done in 2006, but we didn't want this year's Dutchmen team, families and friends to see any kind of huge dropoff or disappearance of football broadcasts this year.

During lunch, I went home and turned on the TBS broadcast of Game 1 in the Rockies/Phillies NL Divisional Series.  The game itself is pretty good (3-2 after back-to-back solo Phillies homers in the bottom of the 5th is when I left), but the announcers were absolutely snooze-ville.  Hoping the rest of the crews are better than this.

The guy on 'play-by-play' is Don Orsillo....he does the Red Sox games on NESN.

He's ok, but I think his color guy is dragging him down and he can't make it work all alone.  I mean, for example, think of poor John McGraw when he was trying to carry Senor RT during the Springfield/Union broadcast...Oops, did I say that? :)

The crew on the Monday game was a snoozer, too.
