Union/Muhlenberg is a regional game. Check the FAQ for definition of a regional game. Don't have time to go more in-depth here.

The simple explanation of why Muhlenberg is in region for Union goes back to the relatively new administrative regions.  Any games between teams in New York and Pennsylvania are considered in region, regardless of the mileage between them.

Frank, thanks...great analysis.

Couple comments:  . . .
2.)  Re SJF:  Does the committee actually consider prior post-season performance or are you just assuming they do...and if so, I find that interesting.

Regarding SJF, is it an official criterium?  No.  . . . based on history, this is an unofficial consideration only.

??? criterium?  ???

Frank, when my highly tuned Intellectual Property antennae detected this neologism, I was ready to e-mail you instantaneously with a plan to document your copyright in the term, and from there we could lay out a plan to maximize the value of it.

I'd have first suggested that you print out your post, so that there could be no doubt that your creative composition "criterium" was recorded in a tangible medium.

But before I shot the e-mail, I decided to Google© "criterium," and I learned something.  Criterium is a type of bicycle race, in fact the most popular type of bicycle race in North America.  I also learned that there's an engineering firm up in Portland Maine named Criterium Engineers, and an international clinical research contractor named Criterium, Inc., based in Saratoga Springs.

So it's true--D3football.com is the source of all knowledge.  ::)

There's still room to carve out a niche domain, but it won't be as broad as I'd have hoped.  Do you think you could start using it during your broadcasts?  If so, we could trademark the term, and that magnifies its intellectual property value.

Or perhaps I just meant criterion, but I got a case of the Superman57s.

Here is the FAQ link to regional games.

In order to relieve the stress of repetitive clicking...200 miles, but NY/PA is an administrative region.

Found the story of Union's hideous Idol

http://www.union.edu/N/DS/s.php?s=1480

This is the best part...

More serious vandalism has usually been attributed to raiders from RPI, though probably not always correctly. After the right leg was broken off in the fall of 1919, and "R.P.I." carved on the Idol, Union severed athletic relations with the Troy college. In the fall of 1921, part of the left leg and of the cub were broken off; they were repaired with concrete. Sledge hammer-wielding vandals broke the Idol into several pieces in the summer of 1985.

The guy probably donated it because he hated Unions crappy frat parties and schenectady in general.  Why else would you give a lion/gremlin to a place like Union?

And I bet you alot of money that somone from RPI would never carve "R.P.I." into a statue.

Ummm...from what I can determine, Union's frat life and frat parties far exceed those, in terms of magnitude, number and enjoyment value, of RPI.

Not as much money as I'd bet.  And I'm giving better odds, people.

(Face it, I'm as geeky as you get around here, and I'd never carve "R.P.I." into any inanimate object)

From his language, we can tell that Reg has no firsthand experience of "frat life."  ::)

Since Union guys never leave campus, I find it hard to believe you can determine anything about RPI.
