Attention Pumpkinhead Fans...

The LL schedule is shifting around next year.

The 2008 RPI-Hobart game will be the LAST regular season game played on the hallowed grounds of '86 Field on November 8th.  RPI will move into their new complex (soon to be named EngiNegro Field after gro wins the lottery) in '09.

Load up your Amish buggies and make the 14 hour trip to Troy for the final miracle on '86 Field.

NICE!

Having an important game like this at the end of the season is sweet.  The Rev especially likes that the game will be historic in that it's the last on '86 field.

+K for Amish buggy.

(Start the negative karma team stretch)

If I were in the Committee room, I personally would advocate in favor of assigning priority, using a system where each primary criterion is weighted, so it might look like this:

  • Win-loss percentage against regional opponents first, with a maximum nominal weight of 101;
  • In-region head-to-head competition; with a nominal weight of maybe 6 or 72;
  • In-region results versus common regional opponents, maximum nominal weight of 4;
  • In-region results versus regionally ranked teams, maximum nominal weight of 2; and
  • Strength-of-schedule, with a maximum nominal weight of 1.

Frankly, I object to SoS even being a primary criterion, since SoS, no matter how it's calculated, is a flawed statistic, and furthermore, it's the only criterion on the list that is--by definition,3 even--completely unrelated to the performance on the field by either of the teams being evaluated.

1 The maximum would be applied where the two teams' records would, if they were in the same conference, be separated in the standings by one full game or more.
2 The idea is that even if you beat a team head to head, if you have 2 losses and they have only one, their record trumps.
3 Compounding the cruel irony is the (entirely appropriate) calculation of a team's OWP by removing that team's results from the calculation.  So Union's OWP has NOTHING to do with the games that Union played against its opponents.

Well now we are talkin RS.  At least you can now come up with some sort of system to rank these teams (which could be done)

Heck, I've been talking like this for days on the Erratic8 board-how do you think I scored that mondo negative karma?  (Granted, I've been talking about polls, but the idea is the same--I value objective, controllable, what-happens-on-the-field data over "I think they have a tougher schedule than them, so I pick they over them.")

No RS, what you are saying makes perfect sense to me.  It seems almost common sense that you would weigh in-region win-loss over SOS.

In fact, they dont even really mention "head to head" do they?  So in the case of Alfred and Hobart for a pool C bid, their game only counts as a "in region head to head" or "in region ranked"????

In-region head-to-head competition is head-to-head competition.

I had been thinking all day that "in region head-to-head" is redundant.

New poll question.  Special thanks to Guru for editing it (no, RT, there were no pole dancers in the poll question).  Enjoy.

Remember that the Union/Hobart game will be videocast over the Web.  Go to http://www.unionathletics.com for details (look on the right side of the page).  The game begins at Noon, with an 11:45am pregame show.

I am not going to vote in the poll because I have never been to a Shoes game so I can't really compare before and after but, I will say that big rivalry games should always be the last week of the season.  That might just be the SEC in me coming out but, I think it cheapens the rivalry a bit to play it in the middle of the season.  That is the reason UF-FSU has persisted through some bad years for both schools but FSU-Miami has faded.  Also, the teams that play in the game are almost at a disadvantage the following week.  (IC lost their last game every year when they moved Cortaca to the second to last game of the season).

Maybe this doesn't even need to be addressed, but I will anyway....

Here in LLPP, we bust each others chops on a regular basis....we call each other names and let it roll off our backs...laugh and move on.

PCole has mentioned many a time that he allows us to get away with more than other boards because we are sort of different and a tad unique to D3football.com.

I have been called some crazy names and been made fun of numerous times here by a good dozen guys.....I have made the same comments if not worse to those same people.....all in good fun....IMO, the guys here who dish it the best take the most heat and deal with it extremely well.

I have been accused of doing much worse than banging a tranny and have never EVER considered responing with...'oh ya...well I banged your mother.'

My disputes have been well documented here with redswarm81....I feel that the only way I can coexist with RS81 is to totally ignore his posts like many others do.

Superman57 was widely hated here in LLPP upon his initial arrival.....personally I thought the guy was a clown, but honestly, as I have previously stated, I have grown to enjoy his posts and what he has to say (his spelling and grammar are something he acknowledges and pokes fun at himself for.....another cool quality here in LLPP).

I guess my point here is that PCole kind of lets us police ourselves to some degree....personally, I bring it right to the edge on occasion, but would never go where RS81 went with Super57.

RS81, grow a set of stones and learn to deal with how we roll here in LLPP or do us all a favor and get lost.

U89 will now return RedStorm81 to his "Pay No Mind List".

Jose, I think 1999 was the first year ever that Cortland was the last game of the year.  It was always the second to last game of the year (from like 1979-1999)  I think it was in the middle of the season before that even....

And of course we beat up on CW Post after Cortland in 1994..........

I thought that was just for the one or two years while they get the stadium thing worked out.

I personally would rather see it the second to last game every year because then I would probably go.....

Please don't include me in your "we insult each other and like it" policy.

I like to talk about football.  I am routinely insulted for talking about football.

In the case of Super57, I wasn't even talking at all, and he insulted me.

Since Super57 is one of YOUR "we insult each other and like it" posters, why does he need to complain that I responded in kind to his insult?

Since Super57 is one of YOUR "we insult each other and like it" posters, why does he need YOU to complain to the teacher for him?

Who needs to grow a set?  That's a rhetorical question, don't answer it.  Talk about football instead.  I'll give you a topic--discuss:

Did you look at the Primary Criteria priority system I designed for JonnyUtah and Frank?  I enjoyed that little exercise, I hope you like it.  I'd love to hear your comments.  But not your insults.

PBR...

RS.....look no one says you cant trade jabs here and poke fun...the regulars here do it often and have fun w/ it...no one is stating you couldnt/shouldnt come back at super57 after his "insult" towards you....all we are saying is that the "mother" reference was over the top.....in the future keep it below "mom" jokes thats all....

Well said, +k!

We need to police ourselves in the E8 Nation as well - seems to have spilled over to both boards now and is getting out of hand.
