another typical Union controversy...

IN DISPUTE: The two schools dispute the series record ... The Dutchmen claim a 78-22-4 series advantage ... Rensselaer claims an 11-4 win in 1886, the first meeting of the series, while Union says the Dutchmen won, 4-0, that year ... In 1888, Rensselaer has record of a 5-4 win ... Union claims no game was played.

Ok..so we have established that there were alot of safeties in the late 1800s....Hell, RT will even acknowledge that maybe each side some loose interpretation of scoring since football was still a relative work-in-progress in America. But the fact that Union has no record of a game in 1888?? WTF?! Were they drunk and forgot? Did RPI play the Schenectady Teacher's College and think it was Union???

RT... that bit in italics sounds like my story from last year's Saratogian... Also, RT, touchdowns were worth 4 points in the late 1800s... explaining the 5-4 scores.
There's some dispute on a bunch of games in the rivalry.

RT got that from the press release the RPI SID put out...who may have found it in said Saratogian

Gotcha. Last year, when I did the story, I got a lot of the information from RPI and Union media guides.
So the question is: Which came first, the story or the media guide?
