...just because the coach doesn't trust his kicker to make a chip shot? I was wondering why RPI went for it on fourth down twice on their opening drive. Now I guess I know. TCNJ still had the overall yardage edge, ten more first downs, and controlled the clock — and scored ten in the 4th quarter minus their best receiver. Thanks for the gift though. And how many FGs did TCNJ miss — 4?

ah, figured you'd seen them for some reason.

And, you have to admit that once you get over the initial "wow, we're here in Alliance"... it wears off rather quickly.

Tags contends that Ithaca is by far a much better Football atmosphere.

Yea.  Mt Unions campus was very nice and clean, but the stadium is probably like every other average small college football stadium in the country.  The fans were kind of wierd too.  Nobody ever stood up.  They all sat down for basically the entire game.  And I dont mean like they had nothing to cheer for, but it seems like at any football game, the people that get the top row, like to stand up to watch the game.  Everyone there just went right to their seats and sat down.  And there are always some people who like to stand in the endzone and watch the game.  Not many of them either.

I thought I was at a tennis match last year w/ those guys - They just sat w/ their arms folded. I thought I was really going to be in for a treat, you know, crazy student fans all over, a band going nuts... nada, zip, zilch. Was kind of a big let down.

Most of MUC fan base looks like Heaven's waiting room, easy to see why they conserve energy. They and the rest of them have expections.  Like if Mount wins but not by enough points.  Its not a high energy croed by any means.  The Mount fans that travel are much more energetic.

Thanks to all the RPI guys whom I met today.  You guys have a nice atmosphere and great support from former players, something that only the stronger Division III programs enjoy.  I really appreciate the hospitality.

And thanks to the LLPP members who listened to the broadcast today.  Reading your posts during the game was nice because you just never know who (if anyone) is listening.

Sooper:

Good to meet you today.  Good luck to your boys next week in a game that's a lot more interesting than the usual game against an NEFC playoff team.

Dew:

Good to meet you today, as well.  You did fine.  Just hit me the next time I don't let you get a word in. :)

Gordon,

I tune in a lot.  Hoping to partner with you on a couple of game in the future.  If TCNJ had beaten Kean... I was all set.

Oooooooo.  Barry Barry. Quite contrary.

Bonds is no longer in "the clear," but is under indictment.

Makes you wonder what the SF Giants knew?

I'm still wondering what the Cubs and Cards knew in 1999.

Res, maybe you and Franksquire can help me figure out why Barry Bonds is the only one who is being dogged by a multi-year DOJ investigation, at the end of which he's not charged with committing the crime that was being investigated, but rather he's charged with lying that he didn't commit the crime that was being investigated.

If they know that he's lying when he says he never knowingly took steroids, why aren't they charging him with the most heinous crime since the Lindbergh kidnapping, i.e. steroid use?

I don't see any difference in kind between Bonds and McGwire/Sosa.  Canseco and Caminiti earned MVP awards on the juice, Caminiti's dead.  Lyle Alzado's dead.  Flo-Jo's dead.  Walter Payton?

I don't see why the DoJ isn't after 80% of all Major League professional athletes.

I wonder what the percentage is among D3 football players.  I heard statements by NESCAC players in the early 80s.  Steroids are everywhere.

B/c Mcgwire never commented on it, he just played dumb & went away --- Bonds flat out denied the whole thing, and then started running his mouth about it like the arrogant ass that he is. Now it's coming back to bite him.

Never lie to a Federal Grand Jury.  They take that ish personally and will get revenge.   Look at Vick... he certainly had enough money to make a problem go away, and couldn't pull it off.  Giambi is looking a lot smarter today.  Bonds will do time. JT's predicting 6-12 months when its all said and done.

QuoteTCNJ will not lose by less than 30.  Nothing against them, but their offense is garbage, and their defense wasn't as vaunted as they were made out to be.  I really think Mount might win 77-0.

Hard to comment except to say that if TCNJ loses 77-0 they'll forever be known as the team that beat RPI before losing 77-0 in the NCAA playoffs.  When MUC rushes all over TCNJ they'll wonder how the heck RPI only managed -3 yards rushing the week before and why did they only manage 14 points with the spread offense.

Vaunted defense? Like Montclair, Rowan, Cortland, and now RPI — you lost to the team picked to finish next to last in the NJAC. One NJAC championship, a nine win season and beating the LL champ on the road in the NCAAs... it's too good! Who cares what the final is out in Ohio next week. MUC is a school that is known for one thing and one thing only. What percentage of the male student population went there to play football? Ten percent. Twenty percent? RPI and TCNJ have football programs which are part of greater institutions. MUC's football program IS the institution which just happens to be part of a college. I'll take the former... and I know it sounds like sour grapes before the game is being played.

Good game, and good season RPI. Best of luck next year.

And you called a good game Gordon!

Last time JT checked the numbers 1 in 5 men were football players.  Granted many will never see time in a  meaningful game, but that is a lot.  I heard that some do it just for the knowledge because they want to be coaches someday.

Sorry Phil, but TCNJ didnt win the game....

RPI lost it....

TCNJ was handed the game...

Gotta agree with that Upstate's assessment, not that it makes any real difference.

Gordo and Ren called a great game, though.  Nice RPI trivbits, RT.  However, I wish that you had mentioned RPI alum Jack Swigert, the Apollo 13 astronaut who was played by Kevin Bacon.  Who knew that RedSwarm81 was only one degree of separation from Kevin Bacon?

JT can understand how the RPI faithful can be upset.  TCNJ did the same thing to RPI that they did to Rowan and others.  Rowan had the TCNJ game in the bag, and then TCNJ made the neccessary big plays to win the game.  Did Rowan do something stupid that cost them the game.... Yes.  Were coaching errors responsible... probably. The Lions still capitalized and executed.  I hope that there is truely something special going on.  Although its a long shot, nothing would be more pleasing than a TCNJ/SJF Curry??? final.

That would be a nice FU to the NCAA pencil necks.

JT

The OAC line is giving TCNJ 41.5 points.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

JT, RedSwarm, Phil:

Thanks for the kind remarks.  JT, it'd be fun to work together at some point.

Having a good color guy makes a big difference and today I had certainly had one.

D3.com needs more than 1 promo... I've heard it about 14 times now. "The kick is GOOD!!"

but... I do like the theme from "playmakers" in the background... Did PC or Kmack pick that?

"I AM!!"

I think the only team that will be able to beat Mt. Union is a passing team.  And maybe not just a passing team, but a balanced one like Ithaca.  Mt. Union still had to watch the run and keep 6-7 guys in the box.

What kind of offense does TCNJ run?

Seems like a pretty solid prognostication....
