Schenectady HS went 5-4, which is the 1st winning season EVER for SHS since the Linton/Mount Pleasent merger (1990?) and both of the older high schools haven't been anywhere near good since the 70's.  Their starting RB rushed for 1,695 yards in 9 games.

The Doids are back!

With an astounding record of 6-5, Rolevio's alma mater made the Mass. High School playoffs, and will be kicking off in about 90 minutes against Greater Lawrence for the right to play in Gillette Stadium in the Super Bowl.

It's probably a good thing they play half their games against opponents 2 divisions above them.

Amesbury???  Dookie!!!  :-)

I went to the Lowell/Haverhill Turkey Day game...It was brutal.  Lowell was 2-8 and Haverhill was 0-10 going into the game....and Haverhill won 28-7 in the mud.  I'm amazed at how bad Lowell has gotten.  They have a new coaching Staff that is horrendous.  They have a huge school and have had some rocky seasons since LD11's departure.

Does anyone else feel if they could coach a HS game, it would be like taking candy from a baby?  I swear I could draw up plays in the mud for a team and have them put up 50+.

Its a lot harder than ya think!

HS football comes down to a few things that you must remember.

1) you average high school has about 1K-2K students.  There is a 75% chance that the QB will not be able throw 75% of his passes to open guys like you see in college.  Not being able to throw the ball hurts.

2) Speed.  Cant coach it, and the faster teams with the best RBs win!

So Reg was watching CNBC when they bring on a guest speaker who was really struggling to get a sentence out.  He couldn't finish his own sentence then literally passed out.  Reg hopes he isn't dead....more to come.

I'm sure somebody will post it over the Internet.  I'll post it if I find it.

Was there at the Haverhill game myself.  Lowell shot themselves in the foot when they insisted the existing coach could not coach two teams.. think it was FB and then BB.. think he assisted at Central this year.  Heard the replacement was a inside job. Lowell was always decent but they have had some tough times this year..

Sat watched a bit of the Delaware / Delaware State game and Makumbi from Lowell and Morales from CC played a bit.

The key to HS FB is getting kids to play.. Haverhill has nearly 2K kids in HHS and no more than 80 in the program including freshman.  Too many 1 sport athletes and kids unwilling to put in the work it takes to turn around a program.  Coaches today have to recruit from their own school.  #'s does make a difference.. especially when you start w/ 45 freshman and end up with 10 seniors on a D1A team.

PBR...

ricky williams out for the season w/ torn chest muscle...lets see 3 practices w/ no contact...hasnt played football in 22 months....wtf did the coaches think was going to happen....pbr hears marley already playing in the williams household and smells incense floating out of the windows....

The Lowell coach before the current coach, who is the BB coach as well was forced out....However, he was NOT a good coach.  He had some great players, and they never lived up to their talent, because he ran a terrible offense and was full of himself.  He was an assistant when i played, and he's a good assistant, and a decent guy, but wasn't a great head coach.

The current coach, also was an assistant when i was there, and yes, it was an inside job, and the same goes for him...He was a line coach when i was there, he was a good player guy...everybody loved him, he did well with the lineman, but he was not an x's and o's guy, and it showed this year.  He'll be gone next year.  Hopefully the politics get canned and they bring in someone that can coach.

RE:  Coaching HS Football...

Too many teams have the coaches sons in positions they shouldn't be, or kids who's parents are 'loud' in important roles on the field.  I mean, every team HAS to have one or 2 speed burners...Work on their hands and running routes.  Get some tough fast kids at RB.  Find the best athlete on the team, that can throw of course, and put him at QB.  HS defenses are so easy to expose, I feel like I could pick them apart.  Maybe i'm crazy, but I look at a defense on a HS field and I drool in the stands.

On the local front, Hoggard HS here in Wilmington NC play this Friday night for the Eastern NC finals.  They are 13-0 this year, and they are VERY impressive to watch.  I hate saying it, but watching them play put the RPI/Union game to shame.  There were a solid 10,000 at the game I went to, and the players were big, they were fast, and they were very athletic.  Except Hoggard's QB...he was not good...but all they need was a guy to hand the ball off.

Hope he doesn't have to cough too much.

Another example of complete disfunction in the Dolphins front office.  They want to get the guy into game shape and try to trade him in the off season.  Now they are stuck with Ricky.  I like Ricky, hope he does get everything together and he could still be a good back, but not for Miami.  Too many players left from when he retired and then got suspended.

This is the key right here.  Much easier said than done.  But I have noticed a lot of things coaching and watching a lot of pop warner and high school games over the last 10 years.

-Pop Warner is all about the contain man.  Youre best defensive players are your two ends and hope to god the other team doesnt have a stud RB that can outrun you.  I live near a pop warner field in boston where the boston city teams play.  These guys are frickin good.

You gotta think that 99% of all high school quarterbacks could not start for the Utica JV team (sorry budcrew).  That means they cant throw to open recievers over a 6' line half the time.  Its a lot harder than it looks.

That is why KS old HS went back to the option last year, the two QB's in the program were both under 5'10" with decent arms and very good runners.  Both also throw better on the move.
