It's time to consult my beloved and respected LLPP brethren for some east coast tourist advice. Me, 2 sons and a friend will be in NYC July 21-26 to see the Twins vs. Yanks before the destruction of historic Yankee Stadium. Also plan on taking in a Mets game and fill in the rest of the time with typical tourist stuff.
I'm looking for suggestions on decent hotel accomodations that won't cost an arm and a leg.
Ideas?

Thanks.

Throw one of the bums on a corner a $10 spot...He'll let you borrow his cardboard box for the night...and maybe his woman too...Just don't drink out of his McDonald's cup.

PBR...

^^^^^^^  LD now that is some funny 'ish...   ^^^^^^^^                           especially true re: mcdonalds cup for those of us who have commuted into manhattan...

Its going to be tough not spending an arm and a leg in NYC for a week.  You can get some luxury hotels for $300 a night, and some hit or miss ones for $200 a night in the city.  I mean, $1800 is a lot of money for a summer vacation in NYC.

fins checkout priceline.com see if they still do hotels...pbr believes you can somewhat select the section of nyc you wish to be in...of course find out what a per/night is going to cost first then put your low quote in after that. if priceline doesnt do hotels checkout hotels.com and their specials. also if your a AAA member that will discount you as well.

If your intent is definitely to stay in the city, check to see if the UN is in session.  I have found that downtown is definitely more reasonable than other parts of the City, however if the UN is in session, most rooms downtown go to 350+ per night.

I can usually get a room at the Milennium Hilton next to WTC for about 189 or so...

If you are alright with subways, you can be in Mid town in 15-20 mins....

PS... NEVER go in the Penn Station mens room....the only comparible smell that can be found is in Union Station in DC.   :o

KS can tell Bman has never used the Journal Square mens room in Jersey City.  Just as charming and usually a fruity homeless guy hanging out trying to watch you pee.

Bman limits his bathroom stops to Amtrak only.  Bman has never stopped at a Path or Subway station Bathroom, (as tempting as it is.... :P)

Bman rarely takes the path anymore, even though they rearranged the exit, it creeps me out....

Greetings LLPP INC.

KR checking in after a very prolonged absence that saw KR graduate from med school, MrsKR graduate with her doctorate in Physical Therapy, and the bof of us move from Iowa to Southern Cali.

Since KR is done being a student, the time has come to step up and get cable. Along with getting the cable, the 1994 Sony TV needs to hit the road and it's time for a TV bigger than 21" that's not 2 feet deep.

KS said that Frank Rossi has some great info in a past post on HDTV's. Any clue how long ago it was so KR can look it up?

Also anyone else with thoughts on HDTV's?

Thanks and +k from sunny southern california.

PS Any LLers coming to San Diego in the coming year, drop KR a PM and we'll meet for some PBR and BS DT in SD.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

KR congrats to you and MKR on your graduations....enjoy  'diego absolutely one of the top places to live anywhere. your now somewhat near tgp and the rev.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Between my cousin Kilted Rat and I, we've turned LLPP into Dear Abby. Much better advice here, though.

The online hotel deals seem to change from day to day. Yesterday the Helmsley had a 2 bed room for around 280 plus tax (which made it about 760). Figured that would be OK since Leona's not around any longer. I guess it would be nice to be downtown to be "in the heart of it", but anyplace within reasonable non-mugging walking distance to the subway is where we'll want to be.

Thanks again. If anybody needs any advice on ice fishing, Hamm's, walleyes or scandinavian women, feel free to drop by MIACPP and KR and I will do our best for you.

TGP lives in La La Land and will usually hits SD once a year.  Will file that one for future reference.

Love the Gas Lamp and a games at PetCo.  Mex food in Old Town is a good call as well.  Favorite area is Solana Beach.  Very chill.  Mission Bay is fun for kiddoes (Seaworld, etc).  Another good spot is the bar at the top of the Hilton on SD Bay.  Great place to grab a drink and the sunset.

For what it's worth TGP owns LG HDTV and a Sony.  Both are pretty sweet, but TGP prefers the LG.

The jam and jelly company Smuckers is buying Folgers for $2.95 Billion

Bought a new 50" Sony HDTV 2 years back.  Now couldn't envision TV w/o it.  Do yourself a favor and investigate buying your new set on-line.  Even with $250 shipping I saved roughly a third from what I would have payed @ Best Buy etc.

Definitely drop KR a line. KR just learned today he can get $6 off any ticket at Petco with his military ID. Gas Lamp is sweet, ever been to Fred's for mexican? Pretty good food and great cheap margaritas.

Thanks!

TGP only comes out once a year near end of October, right?

TGP lives in  Hollywoody, where's the Rev's crib?

As far as on-line being better deals, KR is also going to look at the On base stores as well since they usually have good deals and no taxes.

RE: F#ckersCoffe flavored jams

Smuckers is made 45 min from where KR grew up, KR toured the factory about a dozen plus years ago. Smelled like butt, but free jar of strawberry jam right off the line out of the deal.

Smuckers is known around Ohio for providing high money jobs to the parents of good junior high and high school football players if they move their family into the Orville school district. Unfortunately, Goodyear pays higher to the really good players if they move into the Massillon school district.

Easiest Reference: Justin Zwick, junior high in a small suburb of COlumbus, Fr and So years at Orville, Jr and Sr years at Massillon and then on to a less than mediocre career at Ohio State.
