This is what frustrates Reg when he tells people that he gave 110%.  I had a guy (really smart guy) tell me that it's not possible to give more than 100%.  My response to him was, "have you ever been doing something that you had no idea how your body was doing what it was doing?"  "There is a point when your body shouldn't be doing what it's doing, that's the 110%"

I honestly don't think the French guy tightened up, however, when he saw Lezak out of the corner of his eye pulling like a train, that would have been a pretty good time to man up.

JT is not real happy about the Chicomms hosting, so JT has been DVR'ing and FF'd through most of NBC commentators' butt kissing of the Chinese.  Gun toting military have no business being in an Opening ceremony.  Especially right behind singing Chinese kids... creepy.

Looks like KS list will grow with Russia getting ugly with Georgia.  Darfur. Tibet. Iran and nukes.

This is going to be sticky trying to get Russia out of Georgia.  Looks like Putin hasn't forgotten his totalitarian upbringing.

gro...pbr never knew how much gro knew about swimming...gro always said its science...

TROY, N.Y.,  Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A U.S. scientist is using experimental flow
measurement techniques to help American Olympic swimmers shave seconds from
their lap times.
Professor Timothy  "Gro " Wei, head of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's
Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering Department, helped develop state-
of-the-art equipment and mathematical techniques that U.S. swimming coaches
have been using to help train Olympians.
"We have the physical system, we're taking flow measurements of actual swimmers
and we're getting more information than anyone has ever had before about
swimming and how the swimmer interacts with the water," said Wei. "And, so far,
these techniques have contributed to some very significant improvements in the
lap times of Olympic swimmers."
Wei developed state-of-the-art water flow diagnostic technologies, modifying
and combining measurement tools developed for aerospace research with a video-
based flow measurement technique.
"To see how a swimmer's motion affects the flow, you need to know how much
force the swimmer is producing, and how that force impacts the water," he said.
Wei said he's already thinking of ways to improve his technology to be even
more effective when training swimmers to compete in the 2012 London Olympics.

Is TGP out there? Max and his buddies are going up to LA for a Sunday Dodger game.... recommend a good place to stay? Probably do some sightseeing after the game so it doesn't need to be near the stadium... any must sees for one day in LA?

rolling up to see manny at chavez?  tgp is actually considering going to the same game.

following a day game tgp would recommend:

- rolling into hollywood down Sunset Blvd (once you get thru Los Feliz, which is actually kind of cool, and K-town you will roll into the "Sunset Strip" section of bars/hotels, restaurants, etc).  Hollywood Blvd just a block north btw Highland and La Brea has the Mann's Chinese, Kodak Theater, etc.

otherwise

- hit the 110 South to the 10 West and spend some time in Santa Monica (pier, beach, 3rd st promenade, etc)

you could do both depending on how late you want to get back on the freeway (in some ways later is much better b/c the traffic will have cleared out by then and you'd make way better time returning to SD).

game should be over by 4-4:30.   you could happy hour on sunset then grab dinner in santa monica a couple hours later.  be on the 405 by 8-9pm and home b/f 12

tgp would check the usual deals if you are open minded where you stay (priceline, etc).

otherwise, tgp's hotel recs would be based on:

a)  what neighborhood you want to hang in
b)  your budget
c)  type of hotel (hipster vs. beach/laid back deal)

here's a couple of options based on the original suggestions mentioned above:

hollywood (discount playa)

standard hotel - decent rooms, good location.  can walk/cab wise to pretty much anything on the sunset strip or bev hills

big hitta recommendations:  mondrian or chateau marmont

santa monica (discount playa)

- sheraton delfina - rooms pretty nice and reasonable cost (~$200/night).  only 5 blocks from beach and within a cab to all the bars/restaurants on main st/near venice beach.

big hitta recs: casa del mar (best hotel bar IMO) or viceroy (hip, good eye candy)

not sure what to make of this....

HARRISON, Mich.,  Aug. 12 (UPI) -- A Harrison, Mich., man said he was shocked
to find a naked and lost college student in his driveway when he went outside
to unplug his decorative lights.
Ernest Kramer, 65, said he was disconnecting the lights at about 11 p.m. last
Tuesday when he heard a female voice in the darkness say: "Mister, I'm lost,
can I use your phone?" The Saginaw (Mich.) News reported Tuesday.
"There was only a bug light on, so I told her to come to the house," Kramer
said. "I couldn't see that well, I thought she was wearing shorts and a pink
blouse.
"When we got to the front door I turned and looked at her and said, 'Oh my God
you got nothing on.' So I took off my T-shirt and gave it to her."
Kramer said the student attempted to make several calls, but was unable to
reach anyone. He said he phoned the police after the apparently drunk 19-year-
old threw up in his garage and wandered off.
Clare County sheriff's deputies said they found the girl walking down the
street from Kramer's home.
"(Deputies) brought my T-shirt back, saying she's fully dressed now," Kramer
said. "She was with eight other college students staying at a cabin of one of
the parents, partying in preparation to go back to school."
