Ithaca's plan to take over the world continues; an alum (and guy I worked with) is hired as Union's ASID:

Speaking of SID's.....has anyone ever had a cool one??  I will not name names, but during my time at Union, our SID went through a divorce and buried himself in Jack Daniels for 2 years....he went downhill FAST!!!  He seemed like a nice enough guy, but bared a strong resemblance to 'Crusty the Clown'.

There are plenty of terrible ones... but I won't name names.

Mike Warwick at IC, as Jose often mentions, is the hardest-working and most professional SID in DIII, of course I'm biased but I worked for him and it was a great experience. Fran Elia of Cortland is another great one. But yeah, try going to a COSIDA convention and having a good time with good company... it'll be tough.

When you're expected to work a minimum of 60 hours a week and get paid for 40 -- and get paid CRAP for doing it -- it's hard to be Mr. or Ms. Sunshine.

That sheds a lot of light on the subject.

Pat, in all honesty....what do you see as upside to an SID position?  It doesn't really seem like it lends itself to other positions in sports media....also seems to be very low profile.

People who enjoy SID jobs, truly enjoy them, tend to say they like working with college students, or at this level, with players who are truly playing for the love of the game. They may be people who like to write or do PR. But it's often an entry-level job and many schools treat it that way.

However, in terms of moving from SID to other positions, if you can write you can move into journalism easily or into the college's PR office (which has more normal hours and almost always pays better, even though it is the same job). You can move up into athletics administration from there as well.

Thanks for your input.

When I was at Ithaca, the SID was Pete Moore.  Great guy and he did a great job.  Hes at the Cuse now....

Agreed. He has helped me out with anything I've needed.

I'm not sure about the Utica guy..he's been in there for only a couple years, but the AD, Jim Spartano is a terrific guy.

Thanks for the tip.  Saw the sneak preview.  One the best lines is the chick that goes, "Your sending me to the mountains? I thought Peru was an island"

Classic.

This will be Tivo'd in the JT household.
