It's science.

fightin' phils vs. bosox series? would be fun to see

I will be in Philly to see one of those games if that happens.  I hear great things about that place.

Well, TGP is hoping for a LAD (aka Red Sox West) vs. Sawx WS since that would be in TGP's back yard.

TGP, kind of funny and annoying.  If Boston plays the Dodgers in the WS, Manny would be GUARANTEED a World Series ring AND 2 World Series shares......where's the justice?

you talk about the ultimate way to get back at boston....manny would be more than fired up for that series as would beantown's finest fans...

Redswarm, when did you get so cool?  Oh wait, never mind, you are the polar opposite of that....

U89, I miss Buff's.  That place was the balls.  We used to go to John Brewers too on Wing night over in Waltham.  They had like 10 cent wing night and for the Boston area, they weren't bad.  most wings up there suck though.

There's a guy over at BuffalobaseBallWings.com who keeps interrupting their discussions of NCAA Division III football, to talk about where the best Buffalo chicken wings used to be.   >:( What a tool.  :D

I look at it more as Curry being 4 teams away from being in the Top 25 -- so if 4 teams within 7-10 spots of them fell or underperformed, they would be there...

Yet the first four weeks proves that this is absolutely not true.

See, the Top 25 isn't some set of standings where teams automatically get promoted when someone else falls.

I concur... certain teams have to "more to prove" in order to move out of a certain range in the Top 25.   They can leap frogged or even fall.

So, TGP thinks WPI's strategy is a sound one.  They are working on building their program but a combo of local presence as well as playing more established programs (Union, RPI, etc).

It may be a sound strategy for WPI. RT is trying to use that to justify RPI's schedule, though, and WPI and RPI are not on the same level right now.

Agreed.  TGP will admit he's happy that Hobart plays teams like CMU and Dickinson instead of Endicott etc.

TGP...Here's a question that's bothering me re: Hobart:

I think we've seen over the past couple years scenarios whereby Hobart's 10th game was a difference-maker in what-if scenarios and in reality as to whether they'd receive an at-large bid.  So why in the world did they drop their 10th game?  I know scheduling is usually a few years in advance, but this seems a little disappointing from a LL fan's perspective.  Any insight?

- Frank

Cost.....specifically cost containment for the overall athletic program was Union's reasoning.....could be the same for 'Bart.

I've proven that Union, with a home-and-home series of some quality, would actually expend zero, if not make money, in a revenue-sharing scenario.  To me, the cost answer is a BOC put forth by a lazy person or someone who is trying to shade their real answer with one that sounds good in a sound bite.

Note:  I'm not pinning this answer on you -- I've heard the same answer probably from the same person/people and have never bought into it.

- Frank

Frank Id like to hear it.  Even the game where you dont need a bus and overnight stay (-5K?), every home game must not make money at the d3 level right?  This is all I can come up with..

-Officials (7 at $75)- ($500)
-Union cops with 4 foot wooden fishbeater batons (10 at $150) ($1000)
-random guys paid to set up the field on overtime ($1000?)
-food/drink usually goes to some club team anyway
-Guys at the gate collecting tickets ($300)
-Ambulance at the game ($500-$1000?)

Im sure im missing some, but with a few thousand students, and program sales that might not make as much as you think, how is Union going to make money?

DIII officials probably make more like $175-$200 a game. Maybe $225  It was $150 in the East when JT was still blowing a whistle in 1999.

U89 - Will I see you in Worcester?  And if so, should I bring my suit of armor, sword and shield to thwart your attacks????

Frank,
U89 will be there.....Sunday is this old-timers birthday, so U89 will be in a jovial mood unless the Dutchmen lay an egg versus the Bizarroneers.

By the way, I think you're a good dude.....we just differ greatly on where the Union football program is now and where it needs to go....

I'm not sure that that is where we differ -- I'm the one who readily admits there are problems beyond the kicking/special teams game here -- the one pointing out the defense, especially the secondary, needs to kick it up a notch -- the one pointing out that the administration is not lending any hands to the football program in recent memory, even stripping it of its tenth game (and I just placed an offer on the table to pay for any 10th game shortfall, as you saw)...

Unless you disagree with any of that, then we're on the same page pretty much.  You just don't read fully what I write because you assume I'm going to be writing, "Praise be, the Dutchmen," at all times -- and I think everyone here recognizes that's not the case.  I just like to use some positive reinforcement sometimes instead of acting like negative, negative, negative is the way to go.

The only thing with which I have trouble from you is the constant good cop/bad cop thing you try with me.  Don't compliment on the back hand and then slap me when you flip it around.  You know that I'm a pretty open and honest guy -- I don't censor myself much (only when I think it's unnecessary to call specific people out for both legal and moral reasons).  Respect the fact that if and when I do, I'm probably doing so for our collective interests as Union fans.

Didn't want to go back into this, but briefly....I think that you refuse to:
A)   Throw any kind of criticism at all at the head coach because you are friends...
B)   Call someone out in vast generalities, but when asked to clarify, the generalities become even more vague....

God forbid you say something which is not PC!!!

PBR...

alright time to call a truce here...your both for the same team right? if need be you 2 can converse more about this at a union game this year if frank makes it back from south beach....u89 well done in a beat down on pbr in llppffl...pbr thought he had the game locked up when mcgahee went out but pitts def. took you over the top against pbr....

Could you please block some time in my calendar for the lighting of the proverbial drinking lamp this week and as the subject use "Project Roll-out kickoff" to make it look good?

TGP, I see you read BostonDirtDogs.com.  During the pennant race one of the best parts of my morning was reading their daily dispatches which alternated from "the Rays are a fluke and never had a chance" to "it's ok, all we need is the wild card, the Rays are for real" on a near-daily basis.  Funny site.

If I thought John Audino was to blame for the trend, I'd state such here -- maybe not in a hurtful way like you apparently are advocating, but in a subtle way that would be obvious to someone like you.  Thus, and read this carefully:

I DO NOT PLACE BLAME ON JOHN AUDINO FOR UNION FOOTBALL'S TREND LATELY.

It's not that I refuse to.  It has nothing to do with my relationship with his family or the team in general.  The knowledge I have concerning these issues has nothing to do with any knowledge I have obtained from him, his family or any other coaches at Union.  It's because I know what the internal atmosphere that hasn't been created by John Audino is like right now inside the program.  Instead of promoting and rewarding the team following the 10-0 2005 regular season, it has been the polar opposite inside the school.  Instead of coaching, it seems like the coaches have become more like administrators -- and that's not what coaches do best and wasn't their choice.

Is this the type of stuff you want to see aired in public, U89?  Is this beneficial to Union, the team or its fans?  You see that PM button?  Use that if you have concerns about things I'm saying or insinuating.

If over the next two seasons, Union builds itself up into a playoff-worthy team, then let me be completely uncensored:  it would prove without a shadow of a doubt that John Audino is a GREAT football coach and his staff is comprised of quality coaches even moreso than what many people believe today.  Saturday, the team showed shades of maturing ahead of schedule -- I pointed out a weakness that has plagued them for two consecutive weeks.  That's the only way they will get better -- by accentuating the positive, POINTING OUT the negative and supporting them going forward after a quick bout of negative(s).

You just want to stand on your soapbox to say:  "IT'S THE COACHES.  IT'S THE COACHES.  IT'S THE COACHES!!!"  Well, U89... Newsflash.  The trend discussed here is not the fault of the coaches.  And just because I didn't explicitly say it wasn't the coaches' faults in prior posts as I did here doesn't mean that you can assume I think it is their faults.

If you have a problem with the coaches, why don't YOU tell us why?  Stop prompting me to try to put forth what apparently is YOUR issue.

- Frank

[Edit:  And just as a little further evidence about my ability to be candid -- I am friends with Coach King's family.  I went to school with his sons.  His wife taught me and was my sixth grade homeroom teacher.  It's not easy being critical of RPI, especially during Union/RPI time -- and also when we dissect the RPI OoC schedule.  Yet, I do it here.  Yes, I try to be as gentle as possible because I understand that some people take these posts personally.  I even put up disclaimers stating that my concern is the LL as a whole, not RPI's choice to play a weaker OoC schedule (which is fully the truth).  However, I still delve into the controversy every year.  You seem to forget these points when you lob BS my way lately.]
