I've had a lot of suggestions like tell them you are with the klan or that you love Ice T's work to get out of it, but I assume they've heard too many times.  I may just go and hope that its either a day jury duty or that they don't call me to actually sit on a jury (that was my only other experience in broome co., but this is NYC).  Maybe crime is a lagging indicator of the economy and its won't be busy.

Does anyone prefer turf to grass?  I know some of the new field turfs are very well constructed/composed, but its still articifical.  I loved grass, granted the late Oct until end of season practices were often no better than playing on a parking lot, but it just felt better to me.  What type of field is RPI installing?

Wow......Union knocks off 'Bart 38-35....the LL is unpredictable as hell...

dlippiel

Are you SH&*T^%$ me U89! I have been checking in on the score all day and last I looked it was 21-14 Bart. Fantastic for the Dutch! Great work guys! The LL is crazy as can be but exciting! I can't wait to read the write up and specifics. This team has been and will continue to get a lot of heat because of the slow start and other things we have all been discussing as of late. This is a great win for the Dutch though and may provide some serious umpf heading into the following weeks. Most importantly these kids who work their assess off can feel good about themselves today. Go U!

AND, Susquehanna beat Rochester.....strange happenings.

Union kicked a 27 yd FG with 16 seconds left to win.  Hobart missed 3 FGs in the first half

Congrats to Union.  They won at the line on both sides most of the day.  Rev will probably give us more detail from being there, but it looked like Union's O-line created some big holes in the second half for the running game.

Can't say a lot of good things about Hobart's performance (we know who the QB will be for the next three years, we need a new kicker).  On the bright side, I'm heading out to a NYC Food & Wine Festival event that is all Red Meat and Wine pairings (unlimited beverages).  Enjoy the evening all.

Good for him.....I'm sure that was a shot in the arm for the kid after a tough couple of weeks.

Unin changed kickers (again).  Rapple kicked the game winner

The Rev is beside himself with anger and frustration.

First, my apologies to Union fans, but this is the worst team I have ever seen come out of your school.  #10 is the most amazing athlete, and everyother kid on that field should thank him for the honor of playing with him, and maybe offer to clean his dorm room or polish his shoes.

Second, The Rev is currently considering mass murder.  If every Statesman player and coach would die slowly and painfully from huge gaping gunshot wounds, the Rev's day would be better.  Who the "F" goes for field goals when you are 4 and 1?  and who let that d-bag miss three field goal in one half without him getting a set of cleats up his yin-yang?

Third, Just like last year RPI ran the same play up and down the field and Hobart was helpless, Union did that in the second half with #10.  Union was virtually powerless against short passes to #5, so what did Hobart do?  Try to run it up the middle with #23, who was completely shutdown by Union D.  Hey, guys, I have an idea! Let's run plays that fail, and when we find plays that work, let's not use those.  Let's keep those "secret weapons" just for when we are in a jam.  So run it up the middle even though  you've been stuffed all day.  Seriously, whoever called plays for Hobart today needs to take my donation to the SAA and use it to help fund his suicide.

The Rev takes this very personally.  He spends a lot of moola to fly from AZ to NY, it is very time consuming, and all night The Rev was getting squished by a fat guy with armpit odor.  This is the FOURTH year in a row that Hobart has lost when The Rev goes out of his way to show up for games.  The Rev is tired of being let down.  Does this mean the Rev ought only to go to games against USMMA?  Lame.

Seriously, The Rev is so angry now.  Hobart should have blown the doors off of Union in the first half, but instead handed them the keys to the Boz.  The Rev should have burnt it down so no other fans will have to witness the disgrace the Rev saw today.  Hey, at least we'll have turf.  I wonder if out shi**y performance will leave skid marks.

The Rev is so P.O.'d right now that he hopes Hobart can't even get into the ECACs.

Debate Moderator:  Mr. Rossi, would you like to respond?

Mr. Rossi:  Why yes.  First, I'd like to say hi to all the 3rd grade students at Greenwood Elementary School for watching this debate -- extra credit for all of you!  Now, let me tell you about a true MAVERICK -- no, not John McCain, but the Union College Fighting Dutchmen football team.  You see, candidates like the Rev will have you believe that the Dutchmen did not win the game -- but that the Statesmen lost the game.  Well, I'd beg to differ with the Rev's position, as Hobart had the ball in the Union red zone, sometimes based on Union mistakes, six times in the first half.  Now, the Rev forgets in his analysis that somebody had to stop Hobart from scoring touchdowns in four of those occasions.  Yes, missed field goals were not positives for Hobart, but Union's defense did a lot of work, including with a goalline stand.  To ignore that Union's defense helped keep Union in the game in the first half would be like advocating a position short of full energy independence for our country.

Debate Moderator:  Your time is up Mr. Rossi...

Mr. Rossi:  I just have one more point to make -- while the Dutchmen team in 2008 may not be its strongest at its surface currently -- it's been improving week to week noticably.  I made that point last week, as I said the Dutchmen were two plays short of being 3-1 (now 4-1).  Today, they worked to make sure the odd bounces went their way -- so, Rev, I hope that you'll adopt a policy of CHANGE -- and CHANGE your view that Union didn't win the game short of Coney's effort.  As Coach Audino said in our postgame today, "We became a team today."  The defense and the offense worked at different points of the game to ensure that.  Yes, they both still need much improvement, but Rome wasn't built in a day.  God bless America, and congrats to the Dutchmen.

Debate Moderator:  Thank you, Mr. Rossi.  Rev, any rebuttal?

So wait, Union has no good players other than Coney? Yet Hobart couldnt run the ball. And somebody had to block for Coney because everyone knows that Hobart runs a 4-4 Defense which is a defense that is used solely to stop the run.

You make some good points about Hobart here but you contradict your points about Union by talking about things that Hobart was unable to do.

Great College Football game at The Boz today. Reno is glad he made the trip. The Dutchmen seemed to be a very inspired group today, totally different than the way they came out of the Locker Room the previous 3 weeks. Hopefully Coach Audino was right and they did "figure it out" today!

Terrific sentence structure, avoiding the split infinitive.

Seriously, Rev--Hobart's 4-1.  There are worse places to be.  In fact, Union's in a worse place than 4-1.  Which causes me to wonder:

I wonder if this game suddenly increases the intensity of both the Hobart and the Union games v. RPI.  Hobart's back is to the wall, they need to beat RPI to get to the AQ--in fact, from this point forward, if Hobart wins out in conference, the Pumpkinheads win the AQ.

Union doesn't really need any extra motivation to play RPI, but now they know that they can beat a good team, so maybe it gives them an extra dose of confidence against RPI.  The Dutchmen will need to ignore the voice in their heads reminding them of the common opponent results, though.

Plenty more entertainment ahead in the Liberty League.
Irritating SAT-lagging Union undergrads and alums since 1977
