Think the Shoes comes down to one equation

Does the DL for RPI win the line of scrimmage..?

Their D line play has been outstanding - limiting any effectiveness on the ground and putting pressure on the opposing QB.  They will be faced with a big (literally) challenge this week.  Union is huge on the OL and Coney is a very talented back.

RPI gets alot of attention for their offense and it is apparent how much a Sr. QB and quality WR's and a capable OL means to a team ...but I think the DL for the Engineers is really the reason they have handled most teams over the last 2 years.  They are decent size, very physical and run to the ball well.  Moving McLaughlin inside was key to occupying multiple blockers and the Brown kid is going to be a strong player.

Bottom line ... believe RPI will put at least 21 on the board, can Union do the same?

If Union controls the line of scrimmage, I think they win in a close one.  RPI's DL stuffs the run it could be a comfortable win for RPI.

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

EAST REGION NCAA Rankings
1. Cortland State 7-0 7-0
2. RPI 5-0 6-0
3. Ithaca 5-1 6-1
4. Montclair State 6-1 6-1
5. Rowan 6-1 6-1
6. Hartwick 5-1 5-1
7. Worcester Polytech 6-1 6-1
8. Hobart 5-1 5-1
9. Plymouth State 5-1 7-1
10. Husson 6-0 6-2

Very surprised SJFC is not on this list

TGP gets credit -- posting it in E8 (but not here?!)  -- My darkhorse candidate of Husson is making the East's Pool C scenarios a nightmare right now.

I echo the surprise at SJF's absence from the list, and as I think about it, their absence is quite puzzling, perhaps even shocking.

SJF's in-Region record is 5-1, and they are 1-1 v. in-Region ranked opponents.  I've said before on the East Region Fan Poll board that I don't see how to put much separation between the unholy trinity of Ithaca/Hartwick/St. John Fisher, but the Selection Committee not only put Ithaca 3 spots ahead of Hartwick, they put Ithaca at least 7 spots ahead of Fisher, who laid a monkeystomping on Ithaca's monkeybutt.

Whoa.

But it gets shockinger: at 5-1, SJF's in-Region record is as good as that of FOUR teams in the top ten, including Plymouth State, from the oft-mocked NEFC.  (I assume that oft-mocking is the NCAA equivalent of low OWP/OOWP.)  Is it possible that despite assurances to the contrary, SJF's killer out of conference/out of region schedule has bitten them in the behind?

I am disturbed to see Plymouth St and Husson here....more so by Plymouth St. Now teams are getting huge respect for beating Curry? I have enough trouble dealing with Curry making this poll. Is the NEFC taking off or what? SJF would freakin monkey stomp Plymouth St and regular stomp Husson (yes even though Husson beat Springfield and the pride gave SJF a game). When the East falls to the level of play where NEFC teams are becoming a fixture in the top 10 we are in serious trouble.

I have this wierd conspiracy theory feeling that the NCAA keeps those teams there just to sustain interest in the NEFC and NE area.  If SJF, Union or Kean win out I bet you see them sneak into those spots.

U89 is there are hope for you and Frank? I hope you guys can remedy and be able to hang at a game. Saturday is going to be quite exciting. I am really hoping the U can pull off something sweet. If RPI runs the table clean and gets beat again in the first round it is going to look very poor for the LL. On the other hand if they run the table and win in the first round and maybe go further it could regenerate the LL in sorts. I just can never tell with this RPI team. It is so difficult to tell if they are for real, ONe thing with them that I think shows promise is the time Robertson has been getting behind the line. He is nasty when he has time to work! I am hoping Connelly can have a strong game and gain some confidence for the future. I have really liked what I have seen from him this year so far. This game though will be at a new level for him and hopefully he can rise above and stay composed. Either way I think the U players have been moving in a positive direction in the past three weeks and may be able to make some noise here.

From this week's Around the Nation:

QuoteIf the unofficial Division III motto is 'play for the love of the game,' then we owe a head-nod (or tip of the hat, if you prefer) to every player and team still out there competing just to compete. The goal will always be to win, but there's something to be said for pushing to get the most out of yourself.

Except in the ECAC Championship Games, when half of all teams just phone it in.

Or maybe it's just half of the winning teams.

Or half of the losing teams.

Whatever, teams phone it in.  In the ECACs.

and beat the Empire 8 Champion. Say what you want about the Wick, they are the Champions last year and are on pace to repeat. It is what it is. You are what your record says you are.

I appreciate the props to the Fish - thanks.

I'm OK with the top 2. I mean, when your schedule includes Rowan and Montclaire - that is a tough schedule so Cortland deserves it.

It bothers me like holy heck to see Hartwick on there. Yes I know they beat us, but they pad their schedule with Mt Ida and Becker??  Please.
