QuoteIf the unofficial Division III motto is 'play for the love of the game,' then we owe a head-nod (or tip of the hat, if you prefer) to every player and team still out there competing just to compete. The goal will always be to win, but there's something to be said for pushing to get the most out of yourself.

Except in the ECAC Championship Games, when half of all teams just phone it in.

Or maybe it's just half of the winning teams.

Or half of the losing teams.

Whatever, teams phone it in.  In the ECACs.

Dood, would you please give this topic a rest??  Have you never heard of any team in sports, 'mailing it in'.....you act like this is a topic which is alien to you......happens all the time at all levels.

RT doesn't know what he's more bummed out about right now

a) that KMac decided not to come to the Shoes game in 2008

or

b) No. 22 RPI (6-0, 4-0 LL) at Union (3-3, 2-2): So this one doesn't have quite the same appeal as a clash of unbeatens, but it would if you were there. Rivalry season starts a bit early this year as The Dutchman's Shoes game makes its last stop at RPI's '86 Field. (The Engineers are building a new athletic complex). The game is televised live on local cable in the Albany, N.Y. area, and there's an annual media luncheon, lest you fail to understand the significance of the Shoes game to the locals. Union handed Hobart its only loss, 38-35, two weeks ago, so even if RPI were tempted to take their rivals lightly, they have a reminder not to. The Engineers are balanced, ranking among the nation's top third in nearly every statistical category, including No. 6 in turnover margin. Union features the LL's leading rushing in Chris Coney, who had a 243-yard day in the Hobart win.

Nice Write Up except for "RPI at Union"?? ....hmmmmmmmm.

That's ok KMac, you are always welcome at Shoozapalooza, wherever it may be held

Perhaps you misunderstood.  I didn't write "The goal will always be to win," the No. 2 guy at d3football.com wrote that.

I didn't write "teams just phone it in" to the ECAC championship games, the No. 1 guy at d3football.com wrote that.

I have never heard of any team in NCAA Division III football phoning or mailing it in.

Except possibly your team.   Maybe that's why the subject makes you uncomfortable.

You continue to quote the term though.....

Stormy, what year did you graduate from RPI??  You need to be on a decent team to have the 'opportunity' to even understand the term, 'Mail it in'.

One of our RB's didn't want to play in the ECAC game.......because he was used to success.  During your time at RPI, did you ever play in an 'extra' game??  I'm not sure you understand the concept.

U89....doing the "scoreboard" thing. Guess that's all you have to hold on to in Schenectady these days..LOL...Well, at least you don't have to worry about the prospect of losing 3 in a row to RPI on your watch.
