No, that's just in the ECAC PP -- They've been phoning it in for a while, according to '89.

A couple guys voting to not play in an ECAC game is not underperforming in a game (mailing it in).

The whole Union tailback story and Utah's comments came to light to show how the ECAC game is sometimes viewed.  The spinmasters on here turned that into a 'mailing it in' scenario.

I'm so confused about the whole subject though.  Technically speaking, wouldn't a 'snubbed' 9-1 Cortland team from 2006 want to say F You to the committe and blow out a lowly RPI team to show them they made the wrong choice and that they got screwed?  Something tells me they didn't lay down or 'Mail/Phone it in', but more that the committee got it right...

I am understanding U89's comments 100%.  Just because someone might not want to play an ECAC game at one point, when you prepare for that 'last game', you don't go out there hoping to get your ass handed to you do you? No!  You play to win.

He is definitely a no BS type dude! Pants dropping clearly elaborates one point when pissed. I use it all the time! By the way RPI smoking Cortland in 06' was great! I think Cortland was pissed and was trying to prove a point to the committee. They just got their ass handed to them by the engineers in the process. As a LL fan that made me  ;D

So if the Union players and coaches want to play in the ECAC game this year, and assuming they have the possibility to be potentially afforded that opportunity by the Committee, then U89, based on LD's analysis quoted above, would we agree that Union should play in the ECAC game?

If U fights back enough to get the opportunity to play in an ecac game they should be all over it with no hesitation. An ECAC game, for a team building and growing like the U could be a HUGE stepping stone towards regaining some type of eastern prominence. Plus to me, these kids have been working so hard all year to improve and meet U expectations they deserve the shot to play an extra game and build momentum into next year. Plus when the beat RPI by 4 on Saturday and win out the rest of the season they will really be gaining confidence for the future. I know what they can do from there: The winner of the shoes game gets to play Endicott and Utica next year and start the season at 2-0. This way no one will ever have any idea how good they are until they are embarrassed at the end of the season. I am trying to get things going here, need a little help from both sides! Any Red Hawks.... Engineers.....or what ever the hell you call yourselfs out there?

I hope my comments weren't taken that Ithaca mailed it in in 1996 or 1999 or that Cortland mailed it in in 2006.  I had heard that some people were very disapointed in Ithacas play versus Union in 1999 but I wasn't there and can't comment.  The only fair thing to say is that Union destroyed them and they were the better team.

I wanted to make it clear that I did not think Cortland was that good in 2006 and that RPI clearly had the better team at the end of the season.  If it were an NCAA playoff game I am sure the score would be the same.

Im not sure exactly if this is how U89 feels, but its not about not trying in the actual game.  We have all been in locker rooms before games where sometimes the intensity just isnt there, but you still might go out there and smack the other team around.  Other games, you can feel that intensity of your team, and you carry that intensity onto the field.

Hell, teams "mail it in" all the time when they get outplayed by the other team.

But Im sure weve all heard stories and known players who might drink or smoke on nights during the season when they shouldnt be drinking or smoking.  Just by slacking off in that department would be considered "mailing it in", not just playing 100% on game day.

Some U players are coming to my school next week to celebrate some great achievements by our young students. What a great academic and athletic institution Union is!
