Some U players are coming to my school next week to celebrate some great achievements by our young students. What a great academic and athletic institution Union is!

Make sure they don't park the bus in a fire zone...

The short bus pictures, hella funny.

Pictures of the riders, . . . not so much.

A couple guys voting to not play in an ECAC game is not underperforming in a game (mailing it in).

The whole Union tailback story and Utah's comments came to light to show how the ECAC game is sometimes viewed.  The spinmasters on here turned that into a 'mailing it in' scenario.

I'm so confused about the whole subject though.  Technically speaking, wouldn't a 'snubbed' 9-1 Cortland team from 2006 want to say F You to the committe and blow out a lowly RPI team to show them they made the wrong choice and that they got screwed?  Something tells me they didn't lay down or 'Mail/Phone it in', but more that the committee got it right...

I am understanding U89's comments 100%.  Just because someone might not want to play an ECAC game at one point, when you prepare for that 'last game', you don't go out there hoping to get your ass handed to you do you? No!  You play to win.

Hell, teams "mail it in" all the time when they get outplayed by the other team.

I agree.  I think THAT is the only credible evidence, and since it's evidence ex post facto, it's not only a lame excuse, it's unconstitutional!  >:( It's not actual evidence that any team has ever "mailed it in" to an ECAC championship game.

But I doubt that'll ever sway the opinion of those who do think that teams mail it in.

I'd have said it exactly as you did, but I still don't understand the "give it a rest" complaint from U89.

U89 and JU have both agreed, they never "phoned anything in."  U89 knows for certain that he never "mailed in it," since he was on good teams, so he knows what it means to "mail it in."  And he never did it, even though he knows what it means.

U89's tailback teammate story aside (since it is not evidence of anyone phoning anything in), the only ones who have claimed that teams "mail it in" or "phone it in" to the ECAC championship games are the d3football.com poohbahs--one of whom just last night authored a very heartfelt paean to those who play football to win, even for losing programs.

(In other words, it's kind of confusing when a guy says in one breath "teams phone it in" and in the next breath he says "the goal is always to win.")

went through 2 pages of posts w/o this....thanks RS

Hey, I understand you don't believe me and I'm sorry that people from the 2004 McDaniel team aren't on the board anymore to tell you about how part of the senior class defected when a decision was made over their objection to play in the ECACs that year, or how the 2000 Ursinus team rolled over in an ECAC game after the team went to the second round of the playoffs the year before, etc.

But just because you don't believe it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Good Morning LLPP, Gro has some breaking news for the Shoes Game.

Gro has heard through various sources in Schenectadeck that Notre Dame alum Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger and actor Vince Vaughn will be in Troy for the shoes game to cheer on their pal John Audino.

For those that don't know, Vince Vaughn played the role of John Audino in the movie "Rudy".  Coincidentally, Vaughn would later channel some of Audino's cool car salesman like attitude while playing the role of Trent in 'Swingers'.

LD:

I got word that the Merrimack Valley conference is going to split into two divisions (large and small).  It seems to be the trend now around football conferences.

Im assuming the large division (Lowell, Chelmsford, ?, ?) would stay in 1A and the small divsion would go to 2 with like the Bay State Hegret (Natick, Walpole, Norwood).

From what I remember, the MVC was broken into large/small since I played there, but it was only significant in certain sports.  Football wasn't one of them.  I don't know how valid that would be because a team like Dracut would certainly be a 'small' school, but they are one of the best in MA this year.  Their QB is a monster, like 6'4" 230.  More like a D1 tight end than a QB though.  Ran for 6 tds last week and threw for another.  Kid just wants to run people over.  I don't get why they would split up like that for football since the winner always represents well in the Super Bowl.

Yea I think there are a few issues here.

1- Leagues look at the Bay State conference and see that the 12 team league (split into two halves) gets two teams into the football playoffs, one team in division 1A, and one team in division 2.  Other leagues with 10 teams also want to start doing the same thing.  Some are even lookin to add teams.  The dual county has already split into two football conferences.

And like you said, the Baystate conference large conference winner (division 1A) is usually not as good as the small conference winner (division 2- Walpole, Natick, Norwood).  So the large school winner in the Merrimack Valley (Chelmsford?) would go to the 1A superbowl versus Acton-Boxboro or whomever and Dracut would go to the Superbowl versus Natick, Walpole, North Attleboro or Melrose.

2- Right now, football divisions are solely based on male school population.  There is another push to see the old system where the globe rankings (which used a computer/formula I think) to determine the top 10 best teams in the state, and the top 2 play each other.

So instead of Dracut, Natick or Walpole playing each other in the d2 superbowl, those teams will be able to go against Brockton, Xaverian or Everett in the Superbowl.

alright u freaks, goons, ghosts etc....its friday and prediction time for the shoes game. lay your predictions and why on the LLPP for everyone out there to view for everyone to see and we will find out who can predict football

PBR throws out his quick analysis....Union struggled early in the year and seem to be improving week by week. RPI has been good yet hasnt been tested mostly due to scheduling. A big emotional game for RPI as the last game on the '86 and will want to go out on a winning note. Defenses will be strong on both teams. However RPI is just too strong for Union and RPI wins a workman like game 24-13 over Union and carry the shoes off the battlefield.

alright u freaks, goons, ghosts etc....its friday and prediction time for the shoes game. lay your predictions and why on the LLPP for everyone out there to view for everyone to see and we will find out who can predict football

First Prediction: The field is a disaster!
Second Prediction: Union wins 28-14
Reason Why: I think RPI comes out and scores quick. Robertson is money (dedicated to Vince Vaughn) from the pocket and will get good protection from his line. The Union pass D will be very poor in the first quarter and as a result give up the first TD early. Union will make adjustments in coverage and begin to have some success with the pass. On O Coney gets pumped and moves the ball on the ground. That with the combination of Coneely showing his athleticism and making some scrambling completions the U ties the game at 7. RPI again scores but because Costa gets nasty. He is a brick **** house and I have always been very impressed by his running. RPI goes up 14-7 at half and U is stopped on next few possessions. 2nd half RPI gets the ball and comes out flat. Now the RPI O line is having difficulty with their footing on this poor excuse for a field and Roberston is sacked for the 6th and 7th time this season. The U scores 2 more TDs and takes the lead 21-14. RPI just can't handle Coney. RPI drives scores and we are tied 21-21 going into the 4th. U and RPI go back and forth the field is a mess and both Coach Audino and King fall on the sidelines and get their Khakis dirty. U responds after seeing the immortal "Rudy" in the stands. RPI tightens up on Coney but Connelly starts hitting Gallo and he scores to show up his home town of Troy. RPI drives the entire field with ease until they hit the "Red Zone" Robertson fumbles and U recovers. Catalano is estatic that he transfered from Lehigh and finally gets a win at 86'.

*I know my origional prediction was 24-20 but I think with Vaughn in attendance it makes things more interesting and gives U the extra boost to get to 28 points. For some reason I see no field goals tomorrow. I don't know why maybe just a feeling. Watch first possesion a field goal. Anyway my two cents RPI you suck and your mascot should be a Donkey covered in **** instead of a stupid red hawk or engineer.

Did I mention I respect both teams?
