PBR...

pbr forgot to throw in that he thinks something funky is going to happen at the game...(not that there will actually be a few cute girls there...) but something w/ special teams. Either a blocked field goal or punt returned for a td or maybe a punt or kickoff returned, pbr has that burning feeling and cant shake it...maybe some penicillen will make it go away?

alright u freaks, goons, ghosts etc....its friday and prediction time for the shoes game. lay your predictions and why on the LLPP for everyone out there to view for everyone to see and we will find out who can predict football

RPI 24
Union 18

That's what gro predicted on in the HuddLLe.  In football math 18 is an "odd" number, but gro just threw it out there. Bottom line, Gro sees this as a repeat of the 2006 game. It will be close, exciting, and a win for RPI.

I believe 'Micah from Tennessee' predicted that score as well.

Anyone got any good costumes tonight?  WTFF and I are Kurt and Courtney.  I already have tracks down my arms....

LD11 is sporting a mean case of bronchitis though.  Totally sucks.

Think the bronchitis is relayted to the pictures you posted yesterday? Hope you feel better.

Not related whatsoever.  All I did was post a pic of a Union bus and of Johnny Utah.  Nothing bad about that.  The torch was passed to me by my significant other.  I avoided it for 2 weeks.  I heard extreme amounts of booze is a cure.

JD and Mucinex always seems to help KS.

I think if a team DID tank an ECAC game, or any game for that matter, it shows a lot about the character of that team, and it also shows, pretty mightily, why that team probably wasn't chosen, or qualified for an NCAA tournament appearance.

Not to mention, the 2004 McDaniel team was 6-4, and what has that program EVER done that is of any significance anyway?  Atleast since becoming 'McDaniel'...

Also, in 1999, Urisinus beat Bridgewater State in the playoffs, then got beaten by Rowan 55-0.  We played Rowan in the first round and actually gave them a game.  Let's not make that Ursinus team out to be a world beater.  Had 1999 RPI played either Ursinus or Bridgewater, we would have rolled to the 2nd round too.

That sums it up right there.  It really doesn't have anything to do with ECAC games, it has to do with your teams character at whatever point in the season you are in.  Situations like that arise all the time in different sports.  U89 mentioned the NIT for basketball teams, NFL teams have the probowl.  I just heard a radio clip with Peyton Manning talking about how this Sunday's game is so important because he doesnt know how his team will react if they end up 3-5 going into Pittsburgh.  He knows that if they win, the whole attitude of the team might change.

How do you think the Utica, St. Lawrence or Norwich seasons are going right now?  Its a test of character.  Im sure there are 1-2 win teams across the country who pack it in because they are disapointed in how their season turned out.  Then there are those who try extra hard to finish out the season strong.

RS do you think 100% of all football teams give 100% effort every day in every practice before every game?  Of course not.  Some teams quit, some players quit.  I don't know their names or teams since I only played for one school for 4 years.  Its not like there is a "phone it in" book where we can look up what teams mailed it in which years.

And that brings up another point.  I believe Pat was trying to make the point that he couldnt trust the scores of those games because he didn't know if teams mailed it in or not.  He wasn't accusing teams of doing it.

If you get the impression I disagree with the Dawgg, you're incorrect.  I agree with his assessment.

Of course there are teams that pack it in for games or for seasons.  But you wouldn't know that from the editors and publishers of d3football.com.

Except when it comes to ECAC playoff/championship games.

As for Pat's point, you're absolutely right that he is saying he doesn't know which teams "mail it in" and which teams don't.  But that means that he is accusing some ECAC championship teams of tanking it.

If there were a "phone it in" book, I think it's far less likely that it would list ECAC playoff teams than it would list the Hamiltons and North Parks of the D-III world, but no one ever accuses Hamilton or North Park of tanking games.

You guys are funny picking on the teams that I cited. The teams they played were not world-beaters either.

And JU is right -- this has gotten way, way off the tone of my original post.

You mean like the Juniata, Hamilton and North Park trees?  Are those trees in your forest?

Speaking of forests and of getting off-topic, I went to Markoff's Haunted Forest last night, near Poolesville MD.  There was a tree--right in front of me--that came after me.  Very scary.  Very cool.

A couple guys voting to not play in an ECAC game is not underperforming in a game (mailing it in).

The whole Union tailback story and Utah's comments came to light to show how the ECAC game is sometimes viewed.  The spinmasters on here turned that into a 'mailing it in' scenario.

I'm so confused about the whole subject though.  Technically speaking, wouldn't a 'snubbed' 9-1 Cortland team from 2006 want to say F You to the committe and blow out a lowly RPI team to show them they made the wrong choice and that they got screwed?  Something tells me they didn't lay down or 'Mail/Phone it in', but more that the committee got it right...

I am understanding U89's comments 100%.  Just because someone might not want to play an ECAC game at one point, when you prepare for that 'last game', you don't go out there hoping to get your ass handed to you do you? No!  You play to win.

I'd question the senior leadership on Cortland in '06.  If you apply for the ECAC's and get a chance to play one more (last) game, you bring the house.  Plus the omission from the NCAA's.  Plenty of motivation.  Don't feel like playing.  Don't apply.

Ok, uh, yes, this is one of the captains from 2006 Cortland and I'd like to emphatically confirm
our interest in the 2006 ECAC game."
