note to ld - you guys only won by 13.  union has more offensive yards than your #1 offense.

it was the defense and special teams that pulled this win out for the enginegros.

Isn't it the scoreboard that matters?

FYI - Sounds like Union players and fans turning sour, taking cheap shots.  Can hear psycho lady screaming like someone is stabbing her.  Kinda wish it were true...Audino, show some class and get a grip on your team.

I got a chance to speak to one of the players who was flagged for one of the late unsportsmanlike's after the game. I will precede what I am going to say by saying the player who did it fully admits that he jacked a kid up late.

An RPI Player said to this player: "We knocked your QB out and your Running Back is a......" I dont want to finish this, lets just say the word is a word that was used a lot south of the mason-dixon line in the 1950's.

The Union player then proceeded to tell me that he only wishes he had jumped on the kid and continued the beating after the original jacking.

Sounds like Union in fact has a little more class than RPI.
There is no place for things like that in football. It was a great game. A great day for college football. A great day to be at 86 field for its final shoes game. RPI played a great game on defense and special teams and its offense capitalized on the mistakes that union made in all 3 phases but cashing in with TDs instead of FG's. Its DISGUSTS me to have heard this story.

If that indeed was said, I agree that the kid who said it should have been pummelled.  That is ridiculous.

Jacking up a guy late v. using bad words.  I don't see how one behavior is classier than the other.

Talking smack is one thing.  Using racial slurs is unnacceptable.

Hey, if I'm coach, I'll kick the guy off the team.  But I'll also kick the guy off the team who can't keep it together when someone says a bad word to him in the fourth quarter.

Sticks and stones, for God's sake.  They're words.  They're just words.  Where's George Carlin when we need him?

Words invoke emotion which leads to action, it's human nature.  Now that psych 101 is over, lets focus on the game at hand.

Gro really thought that long run by Coney was going to be a momentum changer. Good to see the RPI special teams step up with that long return.  The real key to the game was RPI finally putting together a good sustained drive (the 6min one after the union fumble) and capped it off the FG that put the game out of reach.

EDIT: RPI has a lot of work to do to get ready for the LL championship game vs Hobart next week. Must be more consistent on offense!

Nice job RPI.  JT's second favorite DIII football team.

Union is now 44-14 in the "Shoes Trophy" game but I never knew about the dispute about the alltime series.

IN DISPUTE: The two schools dispute the
series record ... The Dutchmen claim a 78-23-4
series advantage ... Rensselaer claims an 11-4
win in 1886, the first meeting of the series,
while Union says the Dutchmen won, 4-0, that
year ... In 1888, Rensselaer has record of a 5-4
win ... Union claims no game was played.

Redswarm, tell us what really happend in that disputed first game?

(The Future: 2038)LD posts as RPI ties up the Shoes series at 44-44

Im saying things get heated, push comes to shove, mistakes are made, people shake hands and apologize, and we move onto the next game.

So it's okay then.  No need to worry about who's more classless than whom.  Got it.

Late hit penalties happen in probably 95% of football games. Id like to think that racial slurs are not used in anywhere near that percentage. Not calling a spade a spade in this matter is making you look like as much of a narrow minded person as the person who uttered that despicable phrase. To say using a racial slur is the same as hitting a guy after the whistle is not right.

RPI won. They are without question the better team. Congratulations to them.

What if the racist a****le said those bad words to his own teammate, and the Union player overheard him?

JU said "things get heated, push comes to shove, mistakes are made, people shake hands and apologize, and we move onto the next game."  Why don't you say that?

Inspired by the Bart-WPI and RPI-Union games, TGP dragged the kids out of the house this afternoon and caught some West Coast D3 ball up the 101 fwy about 20 miles from the Pumpkin Patch (although with the overcast skies, cool temps and occasional drizzle, you might have thought it was an east region game).

#20 Oxy beat Cal Lu 24-21 in a great back and forth game.  CLU jumped out to an early lead after making a couple of INTs, but Oxy fought back to make it 21-16 at the half.  Oxy's d came up with 2 safeties in the game.

Great football game - TGP had to "listen" to the final minutes b/c the kids had seen enough (there is only so much cajoling you can do with a 4 and 2 year old), but was behind the grandstand over on the grass by the swingset (hey, being a dad you have to be creative sometimes).

Caught the final few plays from the car b/f and during the rain dumping down.  The ending was unbelievable.  Oxy goes up on a FG late, then the team's traded possessions b/f CLU drives down the field and get the ball inside the Oxy 10 yard line with a few ticks on the clock.

Right then, the sky dumps sheets and sheets of rain onto the field as the CLU kicker comes out to push the game into OT.  To the joy of the Oxy and the dismay of the CLU fans, the CLU kicker shanked the kick (although not a big surprise given the down pour).

Wouldn't be surprised if it got a mention in LA Times Sports pages tomorrow.

Great win for Oxy - crusher for CLU.

TGP got to meet a couple SCIAC posters (made my presence obvious with the good old Hobart tee).

The win pretty much puts Oxy in the driver seat to win the SCIAC and its Pool A bid.  Given a couple of losses in the Top 20 by other teams today, TGP wouldn't be surprised if they moved into the Top 15.
