Can any Union guys compare Muhlenburg with RPI or other top teams in the LL/Upsate that Union has played?

I know I will take heat for this but I was more impressed with both Hobart and Muhlenberg than I was with RPI. I forgot who said it but they put it perfectly: Can RPI beat either of those 2 teams? Yes, absolutely they can. But I think in a 10 game series they would beat the Mules 2X and Hobart 3X. Good thing for RPI is they only have to play Hobart once and may not ever have to play Muhlenberg!

Best thing that could happen to the LL from here on out is for Hobart to beat RPI and then they each win their final game to finish 9-1. I would have to think they would both get into the Playoffs under that scenario.

Again, congrats to RPI on yesterdays win, I know my conversation has taken on a different tone and I have tried to make it not seem like sour grapes. RPI had a better team. In a 10 game series I think Union would win 3.
Again though, some great young talent on this Union Squad. The QB is going to win a lot of games! If Coney stays healthy he will have a shot to break some records. Justin Gallo seems to have broken out of his shell and maybe hes not so one dimensional any more. Cam Johnson had a great punt return and RPI did its best the rest of the day to stay away from him, and he has 4 int's as a frosh!

Hopefully the U can regroup from here. It is important to continue to learn how to win and to build up some momentum heading into next season. Opening with Ithaca, exciting!

Gotta beat Kings Point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reno where is the IC/Union game next year and is it a two year thing?

At Union. Yes, 2 year deal. Hopefully they will renew it! Great game for Upstate NY Football. The 05 playoff game was electric!

QuoteIt is hard to say but I think that because of the Mules O line size (I believe avg around 300lbs) and very quick and shifty QB that the Mules would be able to put up some points on RPI. I think the Mules D would be able to contain Robertson and cover the flat. I think the area where RPI would have to attack the Mules in in the long pass game, there I think they would have success. I continue to be impressed with Robertson's pocket presence and composure. RPI's line looked very good to me yesterday in giving Robertson time to make the big plays he needed to make. Overall I would favor the Mules because I didn't see enough from RPI to convince me that they are a better team overall. Do I think RPI could beat Muhlenburg? Absolutely! To be honest I do not think the Mules are the fourth best team in the country. I just don't see it and there close game with Dickenson seems to support my thoughts. Regarding RPI unless they show me they can handle Bart with ease I think the LL is going to have another one and out NCAA tourney.

Maybe I am getting the wrong drift but is anybody impressed with anything RPI does?

dlippiel I think you said earier in the year you would not be impressed until they beat somebody besides Endicott and Utica..ala WPI and Rochester.

Seems to me they handled both.

Then they easily beat a Susq team off 2 wins.

Then they needed to beat Union to be taken seriously. Done deal.

Now it's "let's see if they can handle Hobart easily".

Can't say what will happen on Sat.... or whether they will even make the tourney.. much less play deep into it.  Don't know if they will be a one and done as you are suggesting if they do make it but I think at this point of the season they deserve somebodies respect.

Avg'ing 30+ while giving up ~ 12 while winning 7 straight has got to be worth something.

Stim, it looks like RPI knows what it takes to win games which is maybe the most important thing for a playoff team.

The 1994 Ithaca team was one play from going to the national championship game and we didn't really blow anyone out that year but we found a way to win games and scrapped it out with everyone.

Ill give em props for taking care of business which only Cortland has done so far in the east.

'gro

RPI's defensive scoring ~12ppg and rushing defense have been impressive.  They shut down the kid from Susq and held Coney in check for all but 1 carry (65 yard TD).  RPI will have to play better than last week on offense in order to beat Hobart.

I'd like to see RPI score early, get a good lead, and control the game.

p.s. Was anyone else suprised King went for 2 in the 3rd quarter (to go up 15-12) saturday??

I think that's become a standard one listed in the manual--if you're up by one after a TD, then a kick gets you nothing extra (ignoring safeties), but a successful 2 point conversion gives you a tie if the other team scores a field goal.

I think there's another textbook entry for 2 pt conversion when the TD puts you either ahead or behind by 5.

I think every coach has that 2 point conversion chart for when to go for two.  There are even charts to account for whether or not your kicker can make it (ie 90% inside the 20) and how much time there is in the game using crazy backward induction models.

Im sure Frank knows how to do them.

Alright, I guess here comes Mr. Negative.....

Unsportsmanlike penalties are NEVER acceptable....EVER.....Union gets alot and has to get contol of them!!

Racial slurs are unacceptable, but if a an MMA uses them all game, are you going to take a penalty on every play and lose the game!!  I'm sorry my mom has been called names during a game, and I have never thrown a punch.....it's called composure, and if you don't have it....quit the game.

Walton-Yedlin was a total stud for Union years ago, but during a game, tossed the bird at many Ithaca fans as Union closed out the game.......Utah, true??

Specials killed us again on Saturday......Unsportsmanlikes have killed and embarassed us over the passed 5 years.....cut the crap and play the game like the class program we are......

Congrats to RPI.

(As always  ;) ), I agree wholeheartedly with U89.

It's funny, I've been thinking about all the different rules outlawing hits.  There are general rules, e.g. any hit out of bounds, or any hit after the whistle.  There are specific rules, e.g. helmet-helmet, below the waist downfield, or on the quarterback after he releases the ball.

But there are no rules about bad words.  The only one that comes close is unsportsmanlike conduct, which can properly apply to racist b.s.  But it's up to the officials to enforce all of those rules, not the players.

I hear you stim and I think you make a valid point. There does have to come a time where an unbeaten team who has handeled buisness so far deserves respect. I do respect RPI really as much as I feel I can. I have disliked that school's athletic teams as far back as I can remember (in a rivalry sense not the players). Last season was the first time I think I ever rooted for the engineers and I felt they really lost to a team that they should have beat. I felt they kind of let down the LL as a whole and made the league look bad because of their poor showing at home. Now I am the first to say I feel Union has done this as well, especially the year before the SJF. I had thought some of my serious comments lately have been giving them more respect than usual. I think it is time where I do give the engineers the respect they deserve and if they are going to be the team to represent the LL than I should get behind them and start sending some spect their way. The have deserved it so far and have not lost their usual "trap" game to SLU or Rochesterl. I think the world of the Robertson kid, he is down right nasty. I don't however think my saying that they would lose to the number #4 team in the nation with an O line avg 300lbs is an insult. Anyway your post is well taken and I think it may be that time for RPI to get some more spect from me because they deserve it. I was just so pissed when they lost to TCNJ last year. I was so sick of hearing how good they were and then to get beat by that team that I believe was not very good at all just hurt. I am a Union guy first but a LL guy a very strong second. The rivalry is just very deep to me ya know. I am still a pumpkin head through next week but it RPI takes down the Bart in a convincing fashion then I am in. I think I will really be a believer and even a solid supporter for the NCAAS.
