Reno, I understand your point....we talked about this topic in late October over a couple pages though....I think we had kind of beat this one to death and would be just rehashing the same stuff.

In October your statements were not so specific. Your point is that you would not support a game against Curry. You are sticking your nose up at their football program. The reality of the situation right now is that in the last 15 years Curry has won as many NCAA Playoff Games as Union so they should not be looked at as an inferior program. In fact, they have won one more recently. This would be a very interesting regional game.

Reno, the reason I dug up that post from 2 weeks ago was to show that Frank and I should ignore each other.

I pose my question again:

As a Union Fan why dont you want to see your team reach its 4th consecutive postseason playing against a team that has won as many NCAA Playoff Games as you have in the past 15 years?

I am a Union fan also, only Im not trying to convince myself that this program is what it once was. The support is allowing them to have a real good team every 4-5 years.......Getting to an ECAC against Curry this year would be great for the future of the program. Because next year has the potential to be that year. And with 3 top 20 teams on the schedule, any experience these kids could get against qualitly competition would help them toward that goal....

Can you guys tell me what this whole "support" thing is for Union football right now that only allows them to have a real good team every 4-5 years?

And can someone finally confirm the IC/Union game next year?

It has been confirmed many times. Opening game at Union in 2009!

Union has many Admissions/Financial Aid concerns along with the fact that they are no longer one of the top 2 sports in terms of support at their own school. Those honors belong to Hockey and Lacrosse.

Thanks, there was someone on here recently that stated Union was still looking at a few other teams.  Any idea if the game will be early or late in the season?

You need more of these guys!

Any word on RPI's opener yet?

Mt. Pleasant Middle Schoolers get the news that RPI will be the 2009 opener...(Coach King refused to play the Katharine Burr Blodgett School.)

Actually, the previous AD was working on scheduling Lewis & Clark as the home opener at the brand new Enginegro Financial Field. They fit RPI's rigorous academic and athletic quality standards.

Seriously, that was the plan before he left (he is friends with the AD at L&C).  Now that that game is probably off the table, Gro votes to open the season with MIT...  to them we're just a dumb jock school.

I feel that there is a lot more to lose than there is to gain in a potential Curry ECAC matchup.  Union would go into that game expected to blow Curry out by 21 points.....anything short of that would be a negative.......a loss, if the team were not emotionally ready, would be a disaster for Union.

I would love to see Union play Curry in the regular season, in that a victory would greatly elevate Union's OWP.

Again, I think you are overrating where Union is as a program and underrating where Curry is as a program.
The last time Curry played the E8 Champion they won.
The last time Union played the E8 Champion they lost.
They have both played SJF as that last game the last 2 complete seasons (Union 06, Curry 07). Both with similar results.
Both have won 1 Playoff Game in the last 15 years. Curry has many more appearances however.

This is not the Union of old. Curry is underrated because of their SOS because of the league they play in. I have seen both teams play. I would expect a great college football game. I would even make Curry the favorite. Union is a young team learning on the fly (I admit that I am very excited about this teams future, particuraly next season). Curry is a team that is not going to the playoffs simply because the only other program in their league that has some history to it finally pulled itself out of the gutter. If 1 of the 2 teams has an ECAC meltdown, frankly, Id expect it to be Curry.

You think about Union as it was from 1982-2001. The program is not in the same shape. If you wish it to be like it was, then it is your duty as an alumnus to help them raise money, or a put a stink with the Board of Trustees to up the funding for the Program and to get Admissions and Financial Aid to work with the coaches more so that the program refuels, not rebuilds , as it always did.

Sorry but to put it in simpler terms. There is NO reason whatsoever to expect Union to win this game on its best day. Not now, in 2008.

Yes Curry has more NCAA appearances than Union in the last 15 years, most have probably come since the AQ.  If Curry had to play in the LL they might not have any NCAA appearances.  Union may have less NCAA appearances recently than Curry, but they are more impressive accomplishments.
