My bad RT but I really respect Frank and am concerned here. Lately I think my language on the boards has been opening up boxes everywhere. Maybe I need to settle and get introverted again. I honestly feel the Dutch would lose a HUGE asset with Frank not being involved with the program.

Looking forward to this for sure! Frank come on, calling it close is still not calling it. I am shcoked at the W today by Curry.

And as I've said... I'm not... Which sort of answers your criticism.

Fair enough, dude plus I can't spell shocked!;D Is Ithaca coming to to the U or vice versa next year?

Not sure -- haven't really focused on Union '09 since I'm basically through with things there for the foreseeable future.

Are you serious Frank? What happened? Dude not to sound corny but not having you involved with the U is a huge loss for Union and all its fans.

Our discussions a couple weeks ago about the state of the program probably would explain it best -- I'll still help the program as much as one can from behind the scenes, but I will no longer freely and without hesitation risk my own reputation, time, money and effort until someone in a certain position of power over the team begins to take seriously the opinions of those people who have actually been around the program for 15 or more years and/or have no personal self-interest in the direction of the program.

I've promised my commitment to Dino and the staff -- they know where my heart lays in this matter.  I still bleed garnet.  Hopefully, I'll get the chance to run for an Alumni Trustee position soon to have the best possible effect on the program and school going forward.

Trust me, I still kind of well up when I discuss this, but it's really and truly for the best for everyone that matters in this situation.

Just to say Frank that I as a Union fan appreciate all you have done and will do for the program. I know you seem very connected to the program and loyal, but I feel you are also very informed and care about the players and school very much. From a doid like myself who grew up with a father who bleeds garnet I hope all is well with you. It annoys me a little that someone involved has not treated you, or the players the way they deserve to be treated and /or taken care of. The school is very lucky to have you and it is their loss that you will not be involved the way you have been. I hope whomever is upsetting you sees clearly that they are having a negative effect on the program as a whole from this.

No... you're the one along with MH89 who suggested I didn't give Curry any credit/chance over the last few weeks.  I didn't think they belonged as a Pool C team in the brackets because it sets an ugly precedent for the East Pool C hopefuls that there could be a 2nd NEFC team from now on...but I never counted them out on any of these boards.  I thought they were the stronger over PSU, even with that head-to-head loss back a few weeks ago.  What you're forgetting is the conversation a couple weeks ago about a potential matchup with Curry in an ECAC game and how bad a loss that could be if their opponent (i.e., Union) lost to them.

I called the Curry/SJF game last year and saw a team that played decently early.  It's one of those things in which Curry has to bring their A game and hope that the other team has an off day to win in these circumstances.  Predicting a definite win or definite loss is not something that can be done with ease because of the circumstances of football.  However, when pride is on the line -- and with the amount of negativity around here about them, it most definitely was on the line -- the prospect of a blowout becomes a self-defeating prophecy.

Maybe this is better for the east region though?

Mabye next year the east has three 9-1 teams (from the nefc/LL/e8/njac) and doesnt have to import the south team?

seriously..good point

The knock against Curry and the entire NEFC was/is their SoS.  Somebody over on one (or a couple) of the general football boards was arguing that winning percentage deserves higher priority in selecting teams than SoS.

Thanks, dl.  Don't worry about me, at the end of the day.  As you said, it's the players (and coaches) that matter here.  The level of respect they seem to have for their fans, friends, families and alumni always impresses me.  I want nothing but the best for all of them and hope we can ensure the tools they need for that success.

RS unitll you have seen any NEFC games you can't really comment on SOS right?

And Ive only seen a few NEFC games and Im not going to tell you they are on par with E8 or LL teams, but nationally, people simply cannot comment on SOS or leagues based on previous years performance.  Ever wonder why there are no vegas lines on 1-aa or d3 games?

RPI ends the '86 Field Era with a win. 34-31 over Alfred.

8-0 in ECAC games

Congratulations to RPI!

The Rev is glad that you were able to end '86 Field's tradition with a win against a good team.

The Rev is facing undue temptation to fly to Pittsburgh or Cleveland next weekend for the Hobart-Mount Union game.

The Rev's idea: PHX to SYR red-eye on "Thanksgiving Eve".  Plane arrives in SYR at lunch time, Thanksgiving Day.  The Rev drives one hour home and surprises parents, et al., and eats a very nice Thanksgiving Dinner or two.  (If the Rev were to stay in Yuma, Az, he would probably have In-N-Out Burger.)

Friday night drive from Norwich, NY to Alliance, OH.

Saturday watch Hobart pull off upset of the Millennium.  That's right!

Flight leaves Cleveland at 5:45 pm for PHX.

UPDATE: The Rev found a reasonable Round-trip ticket on Continental to ITHACA.  It means a long rive back to NY after the game, but it could save the Rev a hefty fee with AVIS for dropping the car off at a different location.

Notice no shot taken by U89.....you think the same could be said if the tables were turned between Frank and U89.....

U89 would be getting hammered by the lil' fella.

I wasn't actually "commenting" on the NEFC's SoS.  I only meant to point out that many others were claiming that the NEFC's SoS was so weak that they didn't deserve consideration.  I think that your point is consistent with my point.

As somebody posted a few times on the general football boards, winning percentage deserves a higher priority than SoS when comparing teams with no common points of reference, e.g. no head-to-head, no common opponents.

Historically, '86 Field's "tradition" has not been a winning one.   I join in the celebration that the '86 Field's tradition has ended.  With a win.   ;D

Rev, next year can you please avoid looking for anything involved with "Ithaca" during the playoff season.

Thanks, MGMT.

How do we feel about our Curry conversation now U89?!?!?!?!? W-O-W!!!!!

Was I the only one who felt that way?

No you werent. Which helps solidify a few of my points:
1. despite my negative karma, i may know a thing or two
2. curry would have been a valuable opponent for union should that have been an ecac matchup. union being a young team on the rise, a gme against a quality opponent would have been great. reno argued that curry is a quality opponent. he was right.

so you can defend yourself with strength in numbers all you want but all it does is prove my point even more.

with that said, i wrote W-O-W for a reason, i didnt expect Curry to beat Ithaca. But now the East Region teams better beware. Pool C's will be harder to come by because whoever loses the Curry-PSU matchup from now on will definetly have an inside track on a Pool-C Bid.

It was foolish to lessen a win over Hartwick because of Hartwicks reputation. They just hung 68 on a team that year in and year out has the reputation of having 1 of the best defenses in the nation.

Curry beats E8-Champs 2 years in a row in the Playoffs.

Reno there is no doubt that Curry would have been a good opponent for Union (or any east team obviously)  this year.  But an ECAC game between Union and Curry would still be looked at different ways.  If Union won, there would probably still be the consensus that Curry is the NEFC team that only had one good win in the history of their program, and the win could have been taken as any other win (to most people)

If they lost, the Union football program would continue to be questioned like we have seen on this board this year.  Im not saying that would have been right (especially seeing now that Curry probably was one of the top 5 teams in the east this year). But it would have happened.
