Definitely a good result. It was a strong field, with at least 6 ranked D-III teams and several D-I and other teams. But Calvin won by a large margin; take away Calvin's top two runners, and they still would have won.

1.   Calvin (#1), 31 points
2.   Oshkosh (#7), 96
3.   Notre Dame 'B', 138
4.   Windsor, 180
5.   North Central (#9), 191
6.   Hillsdale (D-II #12 if I remember right), 245
7.   OU (D-I)
8.   Stevens Point (#26)
9.   Gonzaga (D-I)
10. Anderson (#17)
11. Augustana (#21)
...and several other D-I schools

Last year Calvin had three All-Americans; it appears that this year there could be five.

I wonder to what extent Finnegan sacrifices his own possible time by sticking with the pack longer to improve the team score.

IMO, unless things have been ironed-out at Calvin I doubt Finnegan was waiting for anyone.  If Finnigan and his team mates are together watchout.

I'd say the first few meets show everyone's on the same ship.

Does anyone else find it odd that only FOUR of Calvin College's (Michigan) team are from the Great Lakes state?

Not waiting for anyone, certainly, but they do make a point of trying to stick with the pack for the first part of the race, e.g. 4 miles. I suspect it varies from race to race. I know I've read the occasional comment by a coach about how runners have sacrificed their own personal times for the good of the team.

Finnegan is a Senior.

It's not odd if you take into account that the rest are from other states.  ::)
