Harrier,

Thanks for the correction.

But it is still some heavy-duty domination, even if not an all-time record! ;D

I heard it is snowing at Augustana so now LaCrosse has an excuse for its beginning of its habitual  (2005 was a fluke) NCAA season swoom.

Div. III XC Regional Awards

Harren, Woods head Division III regional honorees
Hailey Harren, the defending national champion from Gustavus Adolphus, and Mike Woods and Don Fritsch, the coaches of reigning team champions SUNY Geneseo and Wisconsin-La Crosse, are among the notables selected as NCAA Division III Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2006 collegiate cross country season.

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honors the top coaches and athletes in each of the eight Division III regions. Regional meets were held Saturday, Nov. 11.

Each of the honorees will be coaching or competing in the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18, in West Chester, Ohio.

The athletes and coaches of the year were selected by coaches within the respective regions.

This year's regional award winners:

Central Region

Men's coach: Paul Schmaedeke, Hamline

In his 19th year as Hamline's head coach, Schmaedeke collected his first regional championship Saturday when the Pipers won the Central Region men's title. Hamline finished second in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Association meet as Travis Bristow won the individual MIAC title. Schmaedeke was the captain of Hamline's cross country team in the 1970s.

Women's coach: Evelyn Freeman, Grinnell

The cross country coach at Grinnell since 1980, Freeman enjoyed one of her greatest coaching moments Saturday when her women's team won the Central Region title. The Pioneers earlier won their third straight Midwest Conference championship, placing nine runners on the All-MWC team. Evelyn's husband, Will Freeman, coaches Grinnell's men's cross country team.

Men's athlete: Chris Dunker, Nebraska Wesleyan

Dunker edged Hamline's Travis Bristow to win the Central Region men's individual title in the snow in Northfield, Minn., clocking 25:37 for 8,000 meters. A junior from Beatrice, Neb., Dunker also led Nebraska Wesleyan to the Great Plains Athletic Conference title with his runner-up finish in the individual race.

Women's athlete: Hailey Harren, Gustavas Adolphus

Harren, the defending NCAA Division III cross country champion, raced to her second straight Central Regional title Saturday, finishing more than 30 seconds in front of the field. A senior from Cold Spring, Minn., Harren also won her second straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Association title.

Midwest Region

Women's coach: Mahesh Narayanan, North Central

In his seventh season as the women's cross country coach at North Central, Narayanan guided the Cardinals to their first-ever NCAA berth. North Central finished second at the Midwest Regional behind Washington. North Central also won its first Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women's title since 1995. North Central runner Amber Druien won the CCIW individual title and placed second at regionals.

Men's coach: Jeff Stiles, Washington University

Stiles guided the Bears to a second-place finish at the University Athletic Association meet and a fifth place showing at the highly competitive Midwest Regional. Washington received an at-large men's berth to the NCAA Division III Championships. Stiles' women's team won the Midwest title against a field that included four other nationally ranked teams.

Men's athlete: Tyler Sigl, Wisconsin-Platteville

Sigl was the dominant runner in one of the most hotly contested Division III regions in the country. His season included victories at the Midwest Region and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meets. Sigl, a junior from Seymour, Wisc., finished fourth in last year's NCAA meet, the highest placing ever by a Platteville runner.

Women's athlete: Marcia Taddy, Wisconsin-Platteville

Taddy won the Midwest Regional in 21:22.8 over the 6,000-meter course, edging North Central's Amber Druien by two seconds. Taddy earlier won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference individual title as well as the Wartburg and UW Whitewater invitational races. Taddy, senior from Two Rivers, Wisc., was the co-winner of the WIAC Cross Country Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year.

West Region

Men's coach: Troy Engle, Occidental

Occidental qualified for its first NCAA men's championship since 1995 with a second-place finish at the West Regional behind Willamette. Occidental also won the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's title. Engle is in his eighth season as the men's and women's track and cross country coach at Oxy.

Women's coach: Matt McGuirk, Willamette

With Sarah Zerzan winning individual titles in both races, McGuirk's Bearcats claimed West Region and Northwest Conference championships. It was the fourth straight regional title for Willamette's women. McGuirk's men won their fifth straight West title.

Men's athlete: Julian Boggs, Colorado College

Boggs, a junior from Berea, Kentucky, raced to championship wins at the West Region and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference meets. Boggs will attempt to improve on his 27-place finish at last year's NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships Saturday in West Chester, Ohio.

Women's athlete: Sarah Zerzan, Willamette

Zerzan, a junior from San Carlos, Calif., won the West Region race by 37 seconds in leading the Bearcats to their fourth straight regional team title. Zerzan also finished first at the Northwest Conference Championships and won several invitational races over the course of the season.

South/Southeast Region

Men's coach: Lisa Owens, Centre

Owens guided the Colonels to their second straight South/Southeast Region title Saturday. Centre scored 54 points, nine points in front of runner-up Rhodes. Centre was also second at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference meet. Owens has been the men's and women's cross country coach at Centre since 1998.

Women's coach: John Curtin, Emory

Emory won the South/Southeast Region women's championship with 38 points, 26 points clear of second-place Trinity. Emory's Amy DiBianca won the individual title. Curtin, the cross country coach at Emory since 1985, won 13 straight women's regional titles from 1991 to 2003 and will be taking his 15th women's team to the NCAA Championships this weekend.

Men's athlete: Alex Mahoney, Rhodes

Mahoney won the South/Southeast Region individual race, helping Rhodes finished second in the team standings. Mahoney, a junior from Winnetka, Ill., covered the 8,000-meter course at Wilmington College in 25:41. Mahoney earlier finished fifth at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

Women's athlete: Amy DiBianca, Emory

DiBianca finished first out of 177 runners at the South/Southeast Regional, clocking 22:54.2 for 6,000 meters. DiBianca, a senior from Winston-Salem, N.C., placed seventh at the University Athletic Association meet. This will be DiBianca's fourth trip to the NCAA meet.

Atlantic Region

Men's coach: Nick McDonough, NYU

McDonough is headed for his fourth straight NCAA meet after coaching the Violets to victory at the Atlantic Region event in Geneseo, N.Y. NYU won the men's regional title with 67 points. Earlier in the season, NYU made history by winning its first-ever University Athletic Association title.

Women's coach: Mike Woods, SUNY Geneseo

Woods was the National Coach of the Year in 2005 after leading SUNY Geneseo to its first-ever NCAA women's cross country title. The Knights began the 2006 season ranked No. 1 and have stayed there all season, highlighted by wins at the Atlantic Regional and State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) meets. In 15 seasons at Geneseo, Woods has taken the women's cross country team to 12 NCAA meets.

Men's athlete: Matt DeShane, Plattsburgh State

DeShane finished 25 seconds ahead of the field in winning his second straight Atlantic Region title Saturday in Castile, N.Y. DeShane, a senior All-American from Norwood, N.Y., also won his second straight SUNYAC title this fall.

Women's athlete: Liz Montgomery, SUNY Geneseo

As a freshman, Montgomery finished third at the NCAA Division III Championships as the Knights won the national team title. She picked off this fall where she left off last season, leading top-ranked Geneseo to SUNYAC and Atlantic Region team titles by taking individual honors in both championship races. Montgomery is a sophomore from Glenville, N.Y.

New England Region

Men's coach: Peter Farwell, Williams

Despite losing his NCAA champion, Neal Holtschulte, to graduation, Farwell guided Williams to a resounding win at the New England Regional. The Ephs finished with 57 points, well in front of Bowdoin's runner-up total of 125. Three of Farwell's runners placed in the top seven, led by second-place finisher Stephen Wills. Williams also won its first New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's title since 2000.

Women's coach: Terry Aldrich, Middlebury

After finishing fourth at the NESCAC and ECAC meets, Middlebury won the New England Region title with 73 points, finishing in front of highly regarded Amherst, Tufts and Williams. Aldrich has won three NCAA Division III women's cross country titles at Middlebury - in addition to being one of the most successful alpine skiing coaches in the history of collegiate athletics.

Men's athlete: Hunter Norte, Trinity

Norte extended his outstanding season by winning the New England Region title by a 10-second margin. Norte, a sophomore from Ellington, Conn., earlier won the NESCAC individual championship and placed second at the RIT, James Early and UMass-Dartmouth invitational meets.

Women's athlete: Ellen Davis, Wesleyan

Davis qualified for her fourth NCAA cross country meet by racing to a 12-second win at the New England Regional in Springfield, Mass. Davis, a senior team captain from Montclair, N.J., finished 15th at last year's NCAA meet to earn All-America honors.

Great Lakes Region

Men's coach: Brian Diemer/Al Hoekstra, Calvin

Calvin showed why it's been the top-ranked team in the country all year, scoring just 17 points at the Great Lakes Regional. Diemer and Hoekstra's runners claimed the top four spots in the men's race, led by winner Tim Finnegan. Brian Diemer and Al Hoekstra were co-coaches when Calvin won NCAA men's cross country titles in 2000, 2003 and 2005. Diemer won an Olympic bronze medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 1984.

Women's coach: Kathy Lanese, Case Western Reserve

This has been an eventful autumn for Lanese and her women's team. The Spartans made history in October by winning their first-ever University Athletic Association championship. They then won the first regional title in school history, scoring 53 points to edge Calvin (57) for the Great Lakes championship.

Men's athlete: Tim Finnegan, Calvin

Finnegan won his second straight Great Lakes title, clocking 25:25.9 over the 8,000-meter course in Cleveland, Ohio. Finnegan, a senior from Los Alamos, N.M., also won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title. A three-time All-American, Finnegan finished third in last year's NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.

Women's athlete: Katie Wieferich, College of Wooster

Wieferich won the Great Lakes Regional, her fifth win in six races this season. She'll be making her second straight appearance at the NCAA meet, hoping to improve on her 54th-place showing last year. Wieferich is a senior from Marrieta, Ohio.

Mideast Region

Men's coach: Bill Ross, Allegheny

Ross, one of the most successful coaches in the history of the North Coast Athletic Conference, had another banner season this fall. With a second-place finish at the Mideast Regional, the Gators came within three points of perennial powerhouse Haveford. Allegheny's men also won their third straight NCAC title, placing five runners in the top 10.

Women's coach: Don Nichter, Dickinson

Nichter claimed his fifth Mideast Regional title Saturday when the Red Devils outdistanced Haverford 49-104. The Blue Devils also won their ninth Centennial Conference title this fall under Nichter's direction.

Men's athlete: Macharia Yuot, Widener

Yuot won his third straight Mideast Regional, clocking 25:58 over the 8,000-meter course in Waynesburg, Pa. Yuot, a senior from Philadelphia, will try to improve on his second-place finishes at the NCAA cross country meet in 2003 and 2005. Yuot won his fourth straight Middle Atlantic Conference title this fall and is a five-time NCAA champion on the track.

Women's athlete: Caitlin Bradley, Dickinson

Bradley finished 22 seconds in front of the runner-up in winning the Mideast Region race.
