What's going on this fall?

Calvin men's and women's XC previews

Could Calvin be the pre-season #1 ranked team on the men's and women's side?

I'd think the men would get the pre-season #1 ranking, with 5 of the top 7 returning from last year's dominant (and deep) team.

I don't think the women will get a #1 pre-season ranking, though. Only one of the three All Americans is returning from last year's third-place team. They have some promising upcoming runners, but you don't get a high pre-season ranking on that basis alone.

What does Calvin, or anyone or that matter, have for recruits?

I'm not sure if either Oshkosh team can be their traditional national contending (the women, at least) ways this season. I hope I'm proven wrong.

The women just don't have the depth and could miss nationals for the second straight season. Keep an eye on freshman Ayla Mitchell, though. She placed second at Calvin. After a rough two years for Oshkosh, Mitchell could lead that team back to near the top. But not this year.

The Oshkosh men are without their top runner from last year, Willy Kaul, who has a nagging injury from the track season and will not run CC this year. There's a lot of quality depth on the roster, but without Kaul, who was fourth at 2006 nationals, I think they'll finish in the mid-teens.

Looks like Mitchell (New Richmond HS, WI) could be a transfer from the University of Minnesota?  If so she's a beast on the track as well (and not a frosh).

800m .... 2:08.09
mile .... 4:59.80 indoors on 300m oval

Speaking of Oshkosh and transfers .... did 2007 D3 400m champion Amanda Donath transfer to Madison, or anywhere else?

moooooooooooooooooo

It looks as though the pre-season poll bears very little relation to outcome...
