Hey Llama,

thanks for the updates during the game. Ours got ugly right before halftime......46 seconds left in second qt and it's 17-7 UMHB and I'm thinking, we had a rough 2nd qt, but it's still respectable and close......46 seconds later it's 30-17......fat ladies were singing everywhere!!

Did you see any HS football while you were there?

no I didn't get a chance. We weren't there long enough and I didn't have my own vehicle. Te radio guys drove into Dallas to wactha  really bad MLB game....they got in after 3 am. I wasn't about to drive 2 hours after a 3 hour flight to watch the A's and Rangers. We had just enough time to get checked in, go find a place to eat (a nice steak house....Cheeves??). Our charter flight was 2.5 hours late leaving Virginia....those 2.5 hours kinda messed up chances of getting in a HS game

TXMike

There is a Cheeves Bros in Temple, pretty hoity toity place but very good steaks

CNU85

that's the place. My steak was fantastic!

C'mon ODAC fans.  We go 6-0 this week, 11-1 to begin the season, and no Monday morning talk?  What are we, the Centennial? :)

Our non-conference record after the first two weeks is the best start in the last eight years:

2007: 11-1
2006: 7-5
2005: 7-6
2004: 4-7
2003: 5-7
2002: 7-6
2001: 8-5
2000: 7-5

Week three will be a tough one, though.  Last year, four of the five games were decided by three points or less:

McDaniel 14, Catholic 13
Emory & Henry 24, North Carolina Wesleyan 21
Randolph-Macon 10, Frostburg State 7
Bridgewater 30, Ferrum 27

And with Washington & Lee beating Sewanee (21-7), and Guilford losing to Averett (54-34), the conference still went 4-2 in week three in 2006.

Matt,

You have the Guilford/Averett backwards. Averett beat Guilford last.

Congratulations to BC on another win over the Hornets. Last week I wrote that I was hoping against hope that the game would be a close one and maybe a miracle would happen. Well I got the first part of the wish but no miracle. However I was very impressed with how SU  played against BC. Things really got going when Barnes all of a sudden mixed it up. SU started to pass the ball some and a strange thing happened, they moved it down field ;D. Its amazing how when a team mixes it up the defending team cant jam everyone up on the line. Maybe he will learn from this. I think I saw more passing in one quarter than all of last season. The Eagles are a strong team. I'm very surprised that they are not in the Top 20. On a side note # 41's father of BC sat next to me at the game. Nice guy and I wish his son the very best in the season.

The Winchester Star had a article on Saturdays game. "The current Shenandoah University football team probably doesn't remind anyone of the Hornets' teams that earned back-to-back co-conference championships in 2003 and 2004.That was a good thing Saturday night, because those teams never played Bridgewater College this tough." Also game pictures can be found on this web site. I emailed them this morning and they wrote back saying the pictures should be up some time this afternoon. http://www.whitepostsports.com/

Good luck to BC the rest of the season. I hope those that made a trip to Shentel Saturday night enjoyed the visit. GO HORNETS!!

The conference as a whole is much better now than it has been for a few years. As a whole the conference was strong in 2000 when BC and EH went to the playoffs. Catholic and RMC were still respectable, HSC was improving, and Guilford was the doormat.
For a few years following that the conference was dominated by BC with HSC playing a close 2nd.
EHC, Guilford, Catholic, and RMC are all better now than they were from about 2001-2005. The conference is a lot more balanced now, and there should be a lot of close games this season. The ODAC schedule is less predictable now than it has been in recent years, and I am definitely excited for the season.

Congrats to Tiger Corey Sedlar for being named ODAC Offensive Player of The Week. Maybe there is not a QB problem at H-S after all.  ;)

I'm very excited about the performance of the ODAC teams to date. Bodes well for an exciting year. I've seen HSC twice; if they continue to improve they are going to sneak up on a few teams this year. The Tigers were 110% better in week two and hopefully will continue in that direction. They have a very tough schedule the next several weeks and the results will define their year : at King's College at Guilford vs. Bridewater at E&H vs. W&L. Five tough games in a row and they need to win all five to have a real chance at postseason play because they finish the season against Hunington, and much improved Catholic and RMC (what the heck is up in Ashland ????) Looks like the old rivary might be up and running again. I find that to be very refreshing !!! A competitive RMC vs HSC game.

TFA, I'm also excited by the level of ODAC play.  Really enjoying this season so far.  A competitive H-S/R-M game at the end of the year would be fantastic. ;D

Perhaps Pedro's statement of "our roster is the deepest it's ever been," was gamesmanship?! ???  I suspected the defense would be solid--it wasn't bad last year.  But the offense seems to have come alive as well.

But as I said on an earlier post, I don't want to get too far ahead of myself. :P  GO JACKETS.

Competitive yes.....but still ending in a TIGER victory!!  ;) There is much to be excited about across the ODAC so far. I am very excited after watching the Tigers beat Gettysburg Saturday. The "Old School" in me loved seeing a big time defensive effort.  I think you are right jacket...perhaps we ARE getting a a little ahead of ourselves.  :-\

Matt - just for fun.....in previous years (can't do it yet for '07), what was the final winning pct of the opponents the ODAC faced. This might show that '04 was actually a better year than '05 if the final season ending winning pct of the opponets was .700 in '04 and .333 in '05. Who knows, but it would be a fun stat to look at.

Can you pull it together quickly?

Thanks! - you always bring up good stuff to chat about!

Yes, I agree.  My congratulations as well.

This board is dead to be 2 weeks into the season. I am disappointed that the Guilford faithfull isn't knocking down the door to say how bad they are going to kill Averett this week.

(just trying to start some discussion on football) It doesn't really have to be about Guilford/Averett. Hell, where is the W&L faithful and the Emory & Henry guys. E&H look like they may have it this year.

kickerdad

Note to the E&H faithfull, myself and many others in the USA South are pulling for your team to beat NCWC this week. NCWC was picked to finish at the top of the conference but if E&H can deal them the 3rd loss in a row, that would be a huge hurdle for them to have to get over and get back on top.
