Lutz, Ricca and Vogelbach were/are great d-3 quarterbacks...the current BC qb is good, but not great.

C'mon guys.  Today is a deadline day and I am supposed to be working.  I will respond to several posts "Kmack" style.

First up is willierobin.  I agree with your assessment.  Lutz, Ricca and Vogelbach = great D3QBs, Highfill = good D3QB to this point.

Snakehandler/Hug,

My son says I am the most biased fan he has ever seen; not just Bridgewater, but Packers, South High, Jr. League, doesn't matter according to him.

I say fan is short for fanatic.  If he don't like it, he can move out and pay his own bills.

Spoken like a true father of a 22 year old still living at home.

Jeff would rather be 15-0.  Josh can have POTY, AA, and the records.  He certainly deserves it with the numbers he has, and will, put up.
Matt, for gosh sake, Vogelbach would rather be 15-0 as well.

Sorry, my statement clearly should have included a ;) or 8).  Something to let you know that I was being facetious.

I think this discussion has you a bit rattled.  You're usually very careful and guarded with your opinions and insight, but then you throw out there the "Vogelbach is the best D3 QB I've seen" statement, and all heck breaks loose. :)

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, and I - like many - think you're one of the most intelligent and insightful people on these boards.  So don't get frustrated and pull a WLU78 on us. :-\
Thank you, but I assure you I am not the least bit rattled or frustrated.  This whole thing is "much ado about nothing."  :)

A "for gosh sake" post that was edited would suggest otherwise, but whatever.

And IMO, this discussion is actually a very interesting one.  I'm starting to think you're backing away from your original "Vogelbach = the chosen one" statement.

Did I push the right button to keep this discussion going? ;)
Matt, I edit a lot of posts for purposes of grammar, clarity and, yes, harmony.  In my honest opinion, however, this issue has taken a life much bigger than was intended - at least by me.  All I know, however, is four people smited me while I was at lunch.  :)  Imagine the reaction I would get if I was truly trying to be impolite, argumentative or unreasonably biased.  Peace

'Nova, my GM muscle-car owner friend, I gave you a karma point for starting a good discussion, even if it did get more heated than you intended.  As far as the four smites go, Coach Clark gave every BC poster a special code that automatically smites anyone who posts comparisons which favor any other team or player over BC or any of our players.  We didn't mean (har har) to smite you, it was just our BC software zapping you.  Don't take it personally.

We also have secret software that will drive your car to Bridgewater on October 13, so if you ever want to see the old Nova, you had better be in it when autodrive kicks in.   :)  Don't wuss out on us just because of karma points.

Ehh, I disagree my Eagle friend.  I think Vogelbach would do just fine in our system, and I think Highfill may even *gasp* make Guilford more dangerous.

Think about it.  Let's say all the receivers are covered, and the play breaks down (I mentioned this in an earlier post).  Highfill would be able to gain you 5, 10, 25 yards on those types of plays.  Scary.

Kid,

Either QB would still be good in either system, but GC's system allows Vogelbach to "light it up" while BC's system gives Highfill the authority to "take off" when he sees an opportunity.  So I will stick to my opinion that Vogelbach is better in the system he is in, while Highfill is better in "our" system.  BTW, I love taking credit for "our" system. ;D

Hey, good to know.  Not wussing out ... I have a job .... does anyone else?  lol  DOD auditors were here today plus I teach a class at NC A&T University from 6-9 every Monday night, so don't expect too much more today.  :)  I'm definitely planning to be at BC on Oct. 13, but life is always busy, especially in the fall.  Llama and the other BC fans were great at GC last October, so I'd sure like to see your place as well (never been on campus).  Not wanting to get ahead of ourselves, but we know both teams will at least also enter the game with winning records, so there will be a lot on the line.  It should be fun!

Ahh, but see, I'm of the opinion that Vogelbach is not one of the great ODAC quarterbacks (yet), not that Highfill is one of them (yet).

In my mind, Lutz and Ricca stand alone.  They put up great numbers and were winners.

Do you think vogelbach could do more to help the team win? or do you think there may be another factor to account for the majority of the losses in his tenure. Championships are won by teams. I know that's always in the talk as a measure of a QBs career (he's in his 3rd of 4 years, so he has time)... but the point is... if he ends a 4 year career with better stats then Ricca, but no ring, will you still say Ricca was a better QB?

Well, Vogelbach has played 23 games and the team is 14-9.  Not great, of course, but the Quakers were 4-6, 4-6, 1-9, 4-6, 3-7, 2-8 and 1-9 (19-51) in the seven straight losing seasons (1998-2004) before he arrived in 2005.  Guilford lost the first four games in 2005, but I think it's safe to say there has been steady progress for a program that obviously needed a boost.  By the end of 2008, I believe Guilford will have 4 straight nonlosing seasons (2005 was 5-5) and, I hope, an ODAC title.  Ricca and Lutz were great - absolutely no argument from me - but put them at Guilford in a similar situation and I'd be curious what their records would be after their first 23 games (22 started).
