Didn't Guilford's program need more improvement prior to Vogelbach getting there than Bridgewater's did prior to Highfill?  That's certainly an unfair measuring stick.

'Nova, my GM muscle-car owner friend, I gave you a karma point for starting a good discussion, even if it did get more heated than you intended.  As far as the four smites go, Coach Clark gave every BC poster a special code that automatically smites anyone who posts comparisons which favor any other team or player over BC or any of our players.  We didn't mean (har har) to smite you, it was just our BC software zapping you.  Don't take it personally.

We also have secret software that will drive your car to Bridgewater on October 13, so if you ever want to see the old Nova, you had better be in it when autodrive kicks in.   :)  Don't wuss out on us just because of karma points.
Hey, good to know.  Not wussing out ... I have a job .... does anyone else?  lol  DOD auditors were here today plus I teach a class at NC A&T University from 6-9 every Monday night, so don't expect too much more today.  :)  I'm definitely planning to be at BC on Oct. 13, but life is always busy, especially in the fall.  Llama and the other BC fans were great at GC last October, so I'd sure like to see your place as well (never been on campus).  Not wanting to get ahead of ourselves, but we know both teams will at least also enter the game with winning records, so there will be a lot on the line.  It should be fun!

I won't pressure you Hasa as I know family ALWAYS comes first! If you do decide to come our way, PM me as I have a little peace offering that might make the trip a little easier, especially if you bring your fine female football friend.  ;)
Thanks, Bo.  I'll do my best!  I have a game planned every weekend, I think.  Let's see 9/1 UCF @ NCSU, 9/8 GC @ MU, 9/15 AU @ GC, 9/15 HSC @ GC, 9/29 GCQ @ GCP, 10/6 Carson-Newman @ Mars Hill, 10/13 GC @ BC, 10/20 W&L @ GC, 10/27 RMC @ GC, 11/3 ? not sure if I'll travel to GC @ CUA, 11/10 E&H @ GC, 11/17 UT-Chattanooga @ App State.  Busy?  Yeah, I think so!  lol  No peace offering needed, my friend, but looking forward to seeing everyone and a spirited football game.  I think I might be able to talk my friend into making the trip - she's a real football fan and a trooper.  :)

Hasa....didn't realize you were a chick magnet!!   ;D Why don't you skip your game on the 29th and come on down to H-S with a car load?   ;)

Curious....anyone know if the Tigers are practicing under the lights this week? Maybe at PECHS or Fuqua? Things look a little different at night. Sure wouldn't want a D back to drop the game winning INT from Vogie because their rods and cones were all messed up.  ;) I'm sure most of the Tiger players played under the lights in HS but for many of them, it has been a while.
On another note...anyone remember the last time H-S played under the lights? I know back in the 70's, they played Lynchburg Baptist College (Liberty U) a couple of times under the lights at City  Stadium and at GW High School (Danville)  The JV team played FUMA a time or two over at Buckingham Co HS. Other than those, I can't remember a single Tiger game under the lights in the last 30+ years. (unless you count the indoor Knute Rockne Bowl in Atlantic City in 70 mand 71. ) 8)

QuoteThe stats show alot of great d-3 qbs over the last ten years  mcgee ,luttz, woods.keith ricca , vogelbach,
and m russel they can throw it around and make plays. The true greats are higher leval Qbs that played d-3 the elliot and the older ricca's jd and kevin

My guess is that you cheated your way to a C in English 101. Putting that aside...Keith Ricca has not been a great D3 QB. Last year his TD-INT ratio was 13-17. Of course he had an amazing statistical year in 2005, but I'll give Nick Bublavi most of the credit for that. Keith is off to a decent start this year, but he might not be in the top half of ODAC starting QBs.
Mac Russel was a good quarterback, but I certainly wouldn't rate him as great.

I don't know how you can compare Elliot to either of the Riccas. JD and Kevin were both great D3 quarterbacks. However, how is JD on another level when he never took his team to the playoffs? Kevin Ricca reached the  playoffs before the field expanded, and before Catholic had an AQ. So he accomplished a bit more. However, Catholic never made noise in the tournament.

Hey, allsky7.  Some of us have it and some of us don't - what can I say?  lol  Jan loves football and even though she didn't attend Guilford, she gets into the game.  Not sure if I can miss the "Souper" Bowl with Greensboro on the 29th - I've been to all ten so far and the last two have been Guilford wins (36-35 and 36-30 in 2OT).  I'll keep HSC in mind for another Saturday!

allsky7 - Good point!  The lights in Armfield were clearly adequate, but certainly not the most well-lit stadium I've ever seen (I remember Pat Coleman correctly questioning this when they were installed a few months ago).  There were some shadows, but nothing that I feel impacted the game's outcome.  I also think HSC would be wise to find a practice spot this week under the lights - it does make a little difference.  For Guilford, this will be the second of three straight night games, with the third being against Greensboro College at Grimsley HS's 10,000 seat Jamieson Stadium.

Your point is well taken, and I agree.  However, this was only one of my points, and it still doesn't change my opinion.  Thankfully, there are still plenty of games for both of these men to show what they have.

I am already sooooooo psyched up for the Guilford/Bridgewater game.  I am not going to Georgia this weekend, I can't go to Hampden-Sydney because of work (see 'Nova, we have to work also, LOL!) and the sixth is a bye for BC.  No Eagles football for 27 days!!!

Hey 'Nova, Trenches and any other Guilford fans making the trip to Jopson Field and Stone Station, you better bring your earplugs.  I will have almost four weeks of yelling all bottled up just waiting to come after you guys!  :)

It should be a fun game.  But BC and GC both have work to take care of until then, even if I won't be there.

GO BC!
GO BC!

Yeah, I know how you feel.  At the very worst, both teams will be 3-2, 0-1.  At the very best, both teams will be 5-0, 1-0.  I'm fully aware of how tough the losses for Guilford have been to HSC the last two years and Greensboro is, well, a true rivalry game - this year at their house, so we'll see what happens by October 13.  Yell all you want, pakownr97.  You deserve it if you can't see football for 4 weeks!  :)

Congratulations to Bridgewater for their ranking in the AFCA poll attached above (link copied from BC site).  I also noticed Hampden-Sydney got 7 points and Guilford got 1 - the only way that could happen for the Quakers is one vote for 25th.  :)  Hopefully, they'll both move up as well.  One interesting note - I guess because Guilford's in the ODAC, the AFCA assumed Guilford is in Virginia because the school is listed as "Guilford (VA)."  Too bad the AFCA doesn't follow the sport as well as d3football.com.  :)

Pat Coleman

Catholic also got 17 votes. Kind of ridiculous, if you ask me.

Add in there Hardin-Simmons not being ranked (they've lost to No. 5 UW-LaCrosse and No. 13 Linfield), and Ferrum getting a vote.

With all due respect to the Panthers, they aren't a top 25 team (or top 50, or top 100).

Well, at this point in the season and based on their opposition, I have to agree with you.  I'm sorry I missed CUA - no offense meant to the Cardinals, but I didn't scan the whole list very carefully.  To tell you the truth, I was equally surprised to see HSC and Guilford getting votes.

Yeah, if the poll is correct, a team ranked between 14-25 should lose to both the #5 and the # 13 teams!  Based on scores so far for Ferrum - a 50-7 loss to E&H, a 22-16 win over SVU (a team Guilford beat 70-26!) and a 41-16 loss to Bridgewater - it's hard to fathom why Ferrum would garner support from a reasonable and informed voter.

One thing I knew and two I did not know about this year's Guilford football games:

- All games will be audio-cast over www.stretchinternet.com
- All home games will also be video-cast over www.stretchinternet.com
- All games can be heard over the phone at 216-502-3200 x 4173 - may give you more mobility than the internet and not a bad deal if you have an unlimited calling plan.

Hey, you think that is bad ... Centre (KY) got 21 points ... a 1-2 team that was obliterated 38-7 by 2-0 DePauw last week.  DePauw got 7 points.   Centre's sole win is a 14-9 squeaker over powerhouse Bluffton (0-2).

Whatever some of those AFCA guys are smoking must be good stuff ...
