Weather for Emory on Saturday:  81 degrees and partly cloudy.  I'm sure the weather will be similar at the other ODAC games.   Sounds pretty hot, especially for October!

UPDATE:  The E&H gate counter just reported the weather prediction...said the temperature will be 6,081.

Give your team and the league some credit for rising up to the standard.

Been reading the posts as a I normally do, but think this statement is the heart of the matter. 8)
I can tell you unequivocably that Guilford has risen and I believe many other ODAC teams have as well.

muchacho

Guilford has obviously risen. RMC and CUA had some rough years, and are back where they about 5 years ago. W&L seems to be getting the same type of kids. EHC's talent is probably about the same but they seem to have a coach who will get more out of it. HSC's talent has been steady since Favret established himself.
The bottom has obviously raised itself in the ODAC over the last few years. There doesn't seem to be a goat to beat up on this year.
I haven't seen BC this year, and I like most other D3 posters, I have no clue about what a team's freshmen class might look like. However, the results seem to show me that BC doesn't have the talent they had between 2000-2005. BC still might have the best talent in the ODAC. Have they fallen that far...No. But I don't think they are where they were in the past.

Pat Coleman

So their comparative talent level is not what it used to be, is what you're saying.

QuoteThe game plan was great for HSC and they executed it perfectly.  It must have been even more frustrating on the field or on the BC sideline that it was just watching the game as a fan!
But brilliant, I don't know.  I still don't agree with going for two when a field goal will tie the game.  I don't think its really been discussed because it worked out for HS in the end, but that could have been devestating!  Could you imagine if BC was able to run out the clock and won by 1 point because he went for two instead of the tie!  I could see on the road against a better team maybe, but at home I don't know....  Anyway, great job to HSC!
Hopefully we'll have two ODAC teams that can make some waves in the playoffs this year!!

QuoteYou mean PAT.  ;) As for going for two.... not sure I would have done that either but like Boise St, when it works it's "brilliant". (oh no...not the B word again :D) And it is in line with Marty's MO in the past. I have seen "Martyball" work and have seen it fail. Live by the sword....die by the sword. I guess the thinking was with 6 minutes left in the game the Tigers could get the ball back. The O HAD been moving the ball all day. This time, it worked out.

Right, thanks! :-[

OUCH!!! Wacker fans might beg to differ on that one. During his heyday, he was one of the best (if not the best) defensive coach in VA on any level. How he rates overall as a head coach I'm sure is debatable but his success is not. He took a struggling E&H program in the early 80's and turned it into a winner.  Granted, the Wasp did struggle the last few years of his career. I don't know whether even he would admit this but I am of the opinion that the illness and death of his wife had an impact on that. 8)

For several years in the ODAC, the standings were very predictable.  By that I mean, 6-0, 5-1, 4-2, 3-3, 2-4, 1-5, and 0-6.  Everyone beat who they were expected to beat and the bottom teams were not even competitive against the highest teams.  I think that era (thankfully) is over.  Guilford is not a "gimme" any longer and neither is Randolph-Macon.  I'm not saying the league will have all seven teams with 3-3 conference records, but it would not at all surprise me to see a range between 2-4 and 4-2.  With HSC's great start this season, I think the winner will be 5-1 and the last team will not be 0-6.

So let me get this straight. Are you saying the most talented team ALWAYS wins championships? In my book talent wins on paper but that is why they play the games on the field!  ;)

I cant speak for all the players at HSC but I have a son playing there and he thinks Marty is brilliant. It goes a long way for 18-21 year old kids to have that much confidence in their coach.

I know there has been a great deal of talk about playoffs, who is in, who is out, etc.  But I'm going to jump straight to the Stagg Bowl.  Here is my prediction.
