Kid,

Sorry to hear your down. The Wasp has been known to irritate many a bowel both on and off the field.

A day without your spirited banter on the board is very BORING!!!!

Hope your in the middle of the fray soon.

Peace,
E&H Dad

Just got back from Emory and I'm glad I made the decision to skip Mt. Union/ONU.

First off, let's go ahead and clear the air about Countergate.  I can honestly say that I saw more people in attendance (and not just on the tailgaiting field) than I ever have before.  The home stands, visitor stands, and every other vantage point of the field were packed.  You couldn't find a spot to park within a 1/4 mile of the field by 10:30 A.M.  I know that the our SID reads these posts, so maybe you guys scared him away from posting more fans as being in attendance than he did.  Sorry you couldn't make the game to verify the count Kid.  I'm sure your skills might come in handy in the '08 Election if you decide to move to Florida.

Now for the game recap.  WOW.  The Waspers looked better than I've ever seen them.  The game wasn't even close when it was at 19-19 at the half.  The D looked pretty darn good and that was minus a starter who won't be back until Bridgewater.  Dusty Rexrode rumblin', bumblin', and stumblin' for the DL Pick 6 was a thing of beauty that brought a tear to my eye.  And how about Bryan Furr?  He showed flashes as a freshman (Pick 6 against Catholic for the lone '05 EHC victory), but he came of age on Saturday.  Even win the refs were making calls against him to level the field (i.e. getting called for pass interference after he was shoved to the ground while in coverage) he still made plays.  Hats off to him and let's hope the D keeps playing this well all year.

The O looked pretty good too.  I was surprised to see H-SC playing a 3-5-3 with a backer walked up instead of their typical four man front, but that nose guard is a STRONG kid.  I can say that it hurt them to play against the Look O when they weren't disguising their coverage (Macon fans take note- the only play a Cover 1 Press and Cover 3).  It's not cool that the Three-Headed Monster is now without Ringstaff because of the ACL tear, but Carlten Bell is a gutsy sophomore who should fill in nicely.  It was nice to finally see Emory pass the pigskin a little so people can't say the O is one dimensional anymore.

E&H vs. Macon for the potential conference championship, have we gone back to 1997?

Now for the final comment, being a recent grad means I was able to watch the second half film from the H-SC/Bridgewater game.  I hope I don't have to eat crow for saying this, but Bridgewater is not a strong team this year.  I know it was only film from one half of one game, but the loss of Coach Colbert might be manifesting itself more this season than last.  I was very surprised watching how high the Bridgewater O-line played the entire time.  If they don't start playing lower it'll be multiple rounds of Shock-Snaps courtesy of the Emory D-line in two weeks if they don't get some Z's in the Knees and a better power position at the snap of the ball.  Life happens in cycles and it could be a long rest of the season if technique doesn't improve.  And start removing the karma points now....

Keep up the good work Waspers and let's see you come home from Ashland with a W.

Cardinal guy

If the SID reads the forum, can we ask him to post a game story here? Other schools seem to manage this from what I see on the scores page. I don't see a game story for any Emory & Henry home game.

Would be a shame if the SID reads the posts but doesn't do the SID job.

Cardinal Guy,

You've got to cut him some slack.  He's a one man operation for the entire dept.  I'm sure the story will be up late tonight or by the morning.  And I'm pretty sure that he's not as avid of a reader as the rest of us.

Yeah, as much as I give the "gate counter" at Emory & Henry a hard time, I know first hand how hard a job it is for a Division III SID. I worked for one at McDaniel for a year, and I work closely now with the one at Bridgewater. Both guys were (and are) overworked. One guy for 20+ sports, it's a tough balancing act. The best SIDs are ones who share the publicity love with all sports, not just the ones (football, basketball) that get most of the fans.

Excellent post, TheEHC52. +1 karma from me.

I bet you picked something up on film that the rest of us fans wouldn't have been able to watching a game. Our linemen staying up high in their stance sounds like our defensive backs not turning around and looking for the ball when it's coming their way. Those type of mistakes can kill a good team.

I agree we aren't as good as in years past. If we were, we wouldn't have lost three of our last six conference games. I do think, however, that our conference has gotten a lot better, so our team may not look as good on film since we're playing better competition.

If he really comes here to read posts and doesn't come here to post stories like other schools do, that's sad.

Cudos to the ODAC for continuing the out of conference success!

With RMC's win Saturday the ODAC is 22-3 overall with 2 games remaining. W&L has CMU and Hampden-Sydney has Huntingdon. Both ODAC teams should be favored in those games. It hasn't been against great competition but it is a refreshing change to see ALL the ODAC with winning OOC records!

First get some sleep. :)

Second I see the photo of the Eagle on your post. Looks like they used you as a model without a t-shirt huh. ;) It would not be Skoal because he would have an IV in his arm with a keg attached.

Going 25-3 out of conference: Will that get more than one ODAC team in the playoffs or help with the seeding or both? Or just bragging?

HSC85

I wanted to give some feedback on the attendance at the E&H - HSC game.  Personally, I think the number of 7950 is low.  The home stands were at least 90% full and the fans around the field was 4-5 deep.  I don't know what the home stands hold, but there was a huge crowd at E&H last Saturday.

Congrats to the Wasps for their victory in Emory.  The loss is a huge disappointment for Tiger fans, but I doubt that any ODAC team is going to run the table this year.  With victories over Bridgewater and Guilford under their belt, the Tigers remain in as good a position as almost anyone to go to the NCAAs.

The ODAC schedule includes 21 conference games.  To date, only 6 have been played.  The conference schedule is just over 25% done.  It seems to me that every team except Catholic has a reasonable chance to finish as the champ .... just depends on how the games play out.

Emory and Henry is looking good now, but their ODAC record is 1-0.  What will it be after they play Bridgewater, Guilford, and W&L?  It might be 4-0 at that point .... or it might be 1-3.  Time will tell.

All of this makes for some exciting football games, with each team feeling that they have a real shot to win each game.  This Saturday's schedule:

Emory & Henry at Randolph-Macon - one of these teams will suffer their 1st ODAC loss
Guilford at Bridgewater - one of these teams will suffer their 2nd ODAC loss
W&L at Hampden-Sydney - one of these teams will suffer their 2nd ODAC loss

After Saturday, there will be 1 team that still has no conference losses: Either Randolph-Macon will be 3-0 or Emory & Henry will be 2-0.  There will be 3 teams with 1 ODAC loss and 3 teams with 2 ODAC losses.  Things may be just slightly more clear.
