What's unfortunate is, Phillip Carter is having the best rushing season for Bridgewater since Davon Cruz (an All-American) in 2001.

Because of Thornton's and Simpson's numbers, and the fact that BC has lost three conference games, Carter's year is being overshadowed.

Through nine games, he has 1,117 yards on 185 carries for an ODAC best 6.0 yards a carry. He has 17 rushing touchdowns.

Carter averages only 20 carries a game, while Thornton and Simpson both average over 30.

However, algernon, we've got a stingy defense this year, and we are hoping for a decidedly different outcome at the 113th meeting in Ashland. 8)

Jacketlawyer ..... I've looked at the Yellow Jacket stats a little .... and it appears that the Yellow Jackets held the 8 opponents they played in both 2006 AND 2007 (not including HSC) to 20.75 points in 2006, improving that to 16.5 points in 2007.

So, the Yellow Jackets held their opponents to 4.25 fewer points in 2007, compared to 2006.

Given that the Tigers scored 46 points against the Yellow Jackets last year, I've determined that the Tigers will score 41.75 points (4.25 points less) against the Yellow Jackets this year.     :D

Good morning, muchacho.  Thanks.  If you were at the GC/CUA game, I'm sure it was a tough finish for Cardinal fans.  I was listening on the net and I was on the edge of my seat!  It clearly could have gone either way and I felt lucky to survive.  I'm sure there was some whooping and hollering on the Guilford sideline after the nail-biting was over!  From looking at the boxscore, it looked as though Ricca had the better day, but Vogelbach is starting to make a comeback after being injured in the Greensboro game.  I hope both teams play well to finish the season.  Peace

Why has Simpson only played in six games?
I believe he was suspended the first three games of the year.

As long as the jackets score less than 41.75,  then things will be just fine.  :D

The question is, will the ODAC even consider Simpson for POTY since he was suspended for the first three games?
If not, it's a one man race: Zak Thornton (R-MC).

Even though I'd give more credit to the plays called and offensive line making holes, Thornton took a beating against Bridgewater but got right back up and took it again (and again).

I suspect that they will. The POY award may be decided Saturday.  We get back into that discussion again about criteria for choosing that award. I can't speak about Mr. Thorton but I can say unequivocally, the Tigers would not be playing for the ODAC title Saturday without Josh Simpson.  8) However, who  gives a $#*@ about POY at this point. GO TIGERS....win the ODAC title and then we'll talk about POY!!  ;)

The BC Eagle's football dynasty ended in '05, we just didn't get the memo until this past Saturday. While a 7-3 (or even 6-4 if Catholic gets an answered prayer) season is marvelous in comparison to BC seasons in the last half-century of the 1900s, it is still the weakest performance since the start of the new century. And therein lies the sadness faced by Eagle fans & players: exemplary performance became both the standard expectation and is almost impossible to secure year after year.

I choose not to cry in my beer, but to savor in the greatness we saw in the six-year run of the high-flying Eagles:
·  National runner-up in '01
·  A playoff record against the nation's top teams of 10-6
·  A winning W-L record against 8 playoff teams (losing record against only 3)
·  Knocked out in the first round of the playoffs in only one of those six seasons.

The accomplishments are an enviable standard for teams in and around the Old Dominion to admire, and desire. A new team carries the ODAC flag into the playoffs in less than two weeks—they have an awesome standard to uphold—best of luck to the winner of "The Game".

Umm, fans of Bridgewater, Catholic, Emory & Henry, Guilford, and Washington & Lee. :)

See, while you Tigers and Jackets get all caught up in "The Game," the rest of us are drowning in our sorrows while trying to think of and talk about anything but "The Game" since we weren't invited to the party. :'(

I'm (kid)ding, sort of.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. H-SC, R-MC, and W&L all beat Bridgewater beyond what the scoreboard said. All three deserved to win against us. Unlike last year, I think the best team in the conference -- the winner of H-SC vs. R-MC -- will represent us in the playoffs.

In regards to Carter, Thornton, and Simpson...I certainly wouldn't have a problem if the 1st Team All Conference was adjusted to allow all 3 to have a spot. They are all definitely worthy. They haven't had just good seasons, but great seasons.
On the other hand, the WR crop in the ODAC is solid but not quite full of spectacular seasons. While Guilford has guys at WR who have great numbers, I feel that is based more on their system than it is on exceptional play. Drew Smith is the one exceptional WR that I've observed throughout the season.
It sure would be nice to be playing for a playoff berth this weekend, but like Kid said...some of us aren't so lucky and get to start thinking about POY and stuff like that already.
While speaking of post season honors...is anybody going to argue this year about COY?

Kid....you and the rest of the Eagle folk have always been gracious in welcoming everyone to Stone Station. Come on and join the party in Ashland Saturday. I'm sure your Eagle brethren will understand and give you a pass this one time. I honestly think this game has the potential to be one for the ages. Who knows how it will actually turn out but the atmosphere will be absolutely electric. I suspect some major popping, a lot of popping off, and probably a scuffle or two. Barring a bunch of TO's, I can't imagine it not being decided in the 4th Q.

Hmmmm, well, you know, Matt, this would be the year to come to The Game if anyone who's not involved with either the Tigers or the Yellow Jackets is so inclined.  Seriously. So you're invited. 8)

With the exception of 1998, I've been to every one since 1983.  I cannot recall a time where there was more to play for than this year.  There have been several ODAC titles on the line, but not one in my time span where there was also an NCAA berth. :o  H-S was not in contention for the NCAAs in '84, and I don't remember if there was an ODAC title on the line that year. ???

K-Mack may know better than I, and if I'm wrong, he'll correct me.  But I'm pretty sure I'm right.

And all this in addition to bragging rights and the usual perks one enjoys for the year while being the victor.  The vitriol will be positively bubbling this year.  I can't WAIT! ;D ;D
