Hi, Olinemom.  I hadn't seen you post in some time and was hoping we'd see you chime in soon.  Glad you got to see the BC/AU game in Danville and enjoyed the low-country boil ... one of my favorites!  Bo, what's on the menu when Stone Station travels to Greensboro on October 18?  Hint, hint.  Of course, the chicken is mighty good, too, so we can't lose!

I was hoping to see the Quakers play at AU on the 20th, but I've been offered two free tickets and a parking pass for ECU at NCSU, so I think I'm headed to Raleigh instead.  Don't you love football season?!  A round of brownies for everyone!  :)

There is still time to enter the ODAC Pick em for this week!

Head on over to the Pick 'em section and wade into the fray!  Picks due by 12 noon tomorrow!

Gosh, I can just hear AC/DC singing "For those about to pick, we salute you!"

That is a good one! I'm in, will send my picks in as soon as I run them through the D3football analizer. That would be, I will make my picks after drinking atleast a six pack later tonight.  ;D

Hey Hasa, I can't believe, finally there's football!!  For sure there will be brownies on 10/18.  I've signed up for the bus.  And if you go to Raleigh, you need to cheer for Russell(#8).  He's the QB for NCSU that got hurt in the first game.  He is sooooooo nice.  How do I know?  Cause he's one of my baseball players from State.  He is supposed to play tomorrow but who knows until the game starts.  At Clemson in Death Valley, boy that would be tough coming back from a #2 concussion.  Looking forward to seeing you!!!  I'm mesmerized by the Weather Channel and Hurricane Ike.  Boy I wouldn't have hunkered down in Houston!  It's so flat there if 3 birds go while flying over, it floods.  Great to be back in action!! :) :) :)
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

Bill--Waste of space.

Hey, this is an ODAC board ... it doesn't belong to any particular school ... not even Bridgewater.  It belongs to everybody in the conference and their supporters.  I don't who the heck you're for, but please show more sportsmanship than that comment reflects.  If you just can't bring yourself to say anything nice, its better not to say anything at all.

45-40? Always happy to see the games come up in the win column, but when is Favret ever going to find a few defensive players?  I think that the playoff game last Fall showed what happens when you put all your hopes on the offense then come up against a really good defensive team.

Time for the breakdown after week 2.
Guilford is playing right now, but Catholic, Hampden Sydney, and W&L win.
Bridgewater, Emory and Henry, and RMC each lose.

So after a 5-2 start last week, the ODAC right now is 3-3 in week 2 with Guilford's fate still up in the air. Looks like Guilford is down 12-7 to Methodist in the 2nd right now.

Hampden Sydney and Catholic start the year 2-0. I wasn't expecting Hampden Sydney to play such a close game against Gettysburg, but its a good sign for the Tigers that they still put up 45.

Catholic has now beat F&M and Shenandoah, who both won their other games against ODAC foes. So while Catholic has won each of their two games by just a touchdown, and without scoring a lot of points, they have done it with against teams that BC and W&L couldn't handle.

W&L is now 1-1 after beating Sewanee. Still don't know what to make of the Generals since what I heard about their game against F&M was that the playing situation was a complete mess thanks to Hanna, and I'm not sure how good Sewanee is.

BC's loss to Shenandoah is truly surprising after their big win last week. From the stats it looks like BC was outplayed with a -2 turnover ratio and less than 200 total yards of offense. Averett didn't play this weekend, so it remains to be seen how good of a team they will be.

After beating Ferrum in a close game last weekend, the Wasps lost to Greensboro by two today. E&H's numbers from the boxscore look pretty pathetic today. They averaged just 1.9 yards per play all day. Surprising they scored any points with those numbers. Definitely less impressed with Emory and Henry than I was after week 1.

RMC drops to 0-2, but they did take usually decent Hopkins team to triple overtime. The Jackets had 4 turnovers this week, which is not the type of thing they did when they surprised people last season. RMC still looks potentially dangerous, but not like a solid pick from week to week.

So there are still a lot of questions in the ODAC, which will make conference play very interesting. Hampden Sydney still looks like the favorite, with Catholic being a positive surprise and RMC a disappointment.

Saw the Catholic game today and it was good to see the Cards head to 2-0. F&M started the game out well rushing, but had no big play threats. They found some success later on passing over the middle, because Catholic's linebackers didn't look great in coverage. The Dips ended up with more total yards in the game, but missed out on some opportunities. They missed two field goals and had a dropped pass in the endzone. F&M played hard but didn't seem like the better overall team.

Keith Ricca played a lot better for the Cards than his statistics show. Catholic wide receivers dropped a number of balls, and he should have had much better numbers. I was impressed with how Ricca ran the game when Catholic was up in the 4th quarter. He controlled the team and really helped Catholic run out the clock.

Greg Brown did great at running back for Catholic. I did a bit of research, and his 125 yards rushing was just the 3rd individual 100 yard game for a Catholic player since 2004. Catholic has been inept running the ball for years, and it was great to see him have a breakout game. Brown has been in the program since 2004, and has had trouble with injuries most of his career. The only season he played 10 games, he had 1143 all purpose yards in 2005, and in his freshman year in 2004 he led the Cards with 11 tackles for loss in just 6 games. Brown has talent, and its great to see him healthy and being put to good use.

Defensively Catholic had a great pass rush. They sacked F&M's quarterback 4 times and caused a lot of pressure whenever he dropped straight back. Dave Woo stood out with 3 TFLs and a PBU. Freshman T.J. Cooney is a lanky looking kid at DE, but he played well for a player seeing his first action. Catholic's secondary was also very impressive. Nick Oliveiro doesn't make mistakes at safety, and is a great leader on the field. I was also very impressed with Dylan O'Shea, who doesn't look like much physically, but did well in supporting the run defense, while playing well in coverage also.

Good win for Catholic, and I'll always take 2-0 however it comes.

OK, after a close one at Armfield last night, time to weigh in, I guess.

Quakers hang on for a wild 34-33 win over a good Methodist team.  I mean no disrespect to the Monarchs, but Guilford had MU on the ropes 34-20 and GC had the ball 1st & 10 with 9 minutes to go.  Instead of using a fairly successful running game to burn some clock and move out of Monarch territory, the Quakers inexplicably chose to throw an ill-advised (and low!) out pattern to the right side.  Result?  Vogelbach's 2nd INT (by the way, his first INT was returned 14 yards by Bartee for a 6-0 MU lead) and a 1st & 10 for the Monarchs at their own 27.   After MU scores and cuts it to 34-27, then GC, of course, muffs the kickoff return and gives it up again at MU's 39.  Result?  An MU 9-yard TD pass.  Fortunately for the Quakers, the PAT snap was high and the kicker was unable to run the bobbled ball, so Guilford clings to a 34-33 lead with about 3 minutes to go.

If there is a difference between this Guilford team and the many I have seen in the past, they successfully ran (and passed) the ball for two clock-killing first downs.  After GC moved the chains twice, the Monarchs had no time outs and the Quakers were able to take a knee twice for the win.

This game had a little bit of everything:  long TD passes, a 77-yard punt return TD (GC's 1st in 4 years), an INT return TD, good runs, missed PATs and a missed FG after a penalty negated a Guilford TD pass.

Even though the Quakers trailed 6-0, 12-7 and 20-13, I always thought they's win.  Three unanswered TD passes (two late in the 3rd Quarter and one early in the 4th) proved to be the difference.

Guilford's vaunted passing attach just didn't look as sharp as it normally does, especially in the first half, but did get on track.  Vogelbach got his 301 yards and 3 scores, but it was done on 21 of 43 passing with two costly INT's.  Guilford had 148 yards rushing on 30 carries and that was a significant factor in the win.  Parker's 103 yards rushing on 14 carries was only the 2nd 100-plus yard game for a GC back in the 32-game Kiesel era.

Anyway, it's a win and Methodist  is a fine team.  I think they'll be a force in the USAS this season.  Even though GC got 34, I was impressed with the Monarch DB's and the running ability of their QB (he had 98 yards on 16 carries!), who I remember from a stellar (and perennial state champ) Reidsville HS program.  Methodist QB Erik Teague's dad, Jimmy, by the way, was his HS Coach and played for the Quakers (Class of '80).  Good luck to the Monarchs the rest of the season!

Quakers move to 2-0 and now hold a 14-6 lead in the series.  GC and MU (1-1) have played every season since the Monarchs started football in 1989.

My apologies to 90 year old Paul Harvey for the title of this post.  :)

HSC 45 at Gettysburg 40  Congratulations to the Tigers.  As usual, HSC shows it can score, but is also vulnerable on Defense.  Anyone want to pick an over-and-under for the Quakers and the Tigers on Sept. 27?

F&M 7 at CUA 14  Wow!  I didn't see this coming.  F&M blanks W&L 24 zip last week and then loses to the Cardinals in DC.  Nice 2-0 start for CUA, especially when you also consider Shenandoah's win over BC.  The score was a bit low, which makes me wonder about CUA's passing attack and how much their defense has improved.

Greensboro 14 at E&H 12  Believe it or not, this didn't surprise me.  Greensboro is not a great team, but they have some skill players.  Perhaps E&H is still a year away and Ferrum is overrated in the USAS?

W&L 24 at Sewanee 12  Nice Week 2 comeback for the Generals.  I honestly don't know much about the University of the South this season, but you have to wonder how much the weather affected W&L last week.

Shenandoah 10 at Bridgewater 6  Ouch!  Good first win for the Hornets over the Eagles and in Bridgewater, no less.  I would never count out the Eagles, but this does not bode well in 2008 for a rebuilding BC team.

Johns Hopkins 39 at RMC 31 (3 OT)  I didn't expect the Yellow Jackets to start the season 0-2 and a 3 OT game is a tough one to lose.  I haven't read the box, but I can tell by the 8-point margin RMC had the ball last and couldn't punch it in.  Hopefully, RMC can regain their sting ... expectations were high after last season.
