Bill--Waste of space.

Hey, this is an ODAC board ... it doesn't belong to any particular school ... not even Bridgewater.  It belongs to everybody in the conference and their supporters.  I don't who the heck you're for, but please show more sportsmanship than that comment reflects.  If you just can't bring yourself to say anything nice, its better not to say anything at all.

Thanks so much. I haven't heard that since 3rd grade.

So, what is the skinny on the BC game?

Much work needed on the o-line. Couldn't get 1 yard when needed on the ground and had no time on pass plays longer than 10 yrds down the field. Could have possibly been a different game had there not been a few overthrows and several dropped passes. In the words of coach Clark, " We earned the result we got today, and we can't win with half the team playing well". Yes the defense looked good but we still need to play better on 3rd down. Bottomline = YOUTH Congrat to Shenandoah, they were the better team yesterday. We just need to grow with the team. How they play against Ferrum next week will tell a lot about the rest of the season.  ;)

llamaguy, figured i would send a note.  seems both our teams suffered tough unexpected loses this week.  hope all is well and good luck the rest of the season, will certainly see you again at the stagg, hopefully before that in a playoff game at wesley, but they have a lot of work to do.

On BC - The offense was vanilla.  Only went down field once and that was with a halfback throwing. Many throws went high.  The running game was spotty at best. Need to work on PATs.     Defense got tired.  Many cramps by end of game.

Checking in from the RMC game Saturday:

First off...it was brutally hot!  93 at game time, and it felt like 103...

That said, the Jackets lost a tough one this weekend...noone ever likes to lose, but 3OT loss, after playing well enough to win, very tough to swallow.

Running attack was shut down...JHU put a "shadow" on Zak Thornton the whole game.  Sometimes it was a DB or safety, sometimes it was a LB, but whoever it was, they followed his every move, for every play he was on the field, and he was never really able to get in a rhythm.

Passing game wasn't bad, Braner struggled early, got the long TD to May, then Faulkner came in, provided some energy, and Braner kept his head in it, came in late in the game and caught a TD pass himself.

After RMC went up 14-0 early in the game, Hopkins answered with a nice drive in the second quarter and stood up RMC as the half ended...

After a Thornton fumble (on his first run into the secondary) JHU recovered and drove down the field to tie the game, each team punted twice, then JHU recovered a fumble by Braner and ran it in to take the lead.

Teams then traded turnovers, and RMC drove down field to tie it at 21 and neither team could get close enough to try a FG at the end.

In the OT's they traded FG's first then TDs, and in the 3rd they were forced to go for 2, which JHU succeeded, and then intercepted Fualkner in the end zone on RMC's possession to end the game.

Ultimately, untimely turnovers killed them again, and that is something they have got to get under control.

On to SUNY-Maritime next week, where hopefully they can overcome the long road trip to get a much needed win heading in to ODAC play...

Thanks for your report, rmc6thman.  I saw a 2OT game at Guilford two years ago and they do take a toll on the players ... and fans!  Until I read your report, I didn't realize JHU & RMC had matched points in the first two OT's ... guess I just assumed they had both failed to score.  I did realize you have to go for 2 in the 3rd OT, so knew RMC had the ball last.  Good luck to the Yellow Jackets next week ... you definitely need to get a W before conference play begins.

Thanks again for the update, RMC6.  I read the account in the paper and it looked like a slugfest.  To be honest, I've never particularly minded these kinds of losses as long as R-M leaves nothing behind on the field, and learns from the mistakes.  I will just have to keep the faith! 8)

The defense they run is a 3-3-5  which your linebackers have to be fast and really athletic ,your 5  DBs must really, really be fast to cover and support the run.  A friend of my family son plays there on offense and he said they have a DB that runs a 4.46 forty that only plays on special teams and another that runs a 4.50 and does the same .  Up front you must have two ends that are great and a nose that can handle anything in the middle! The backers and DBs must really be able to run in that  defense.

Best wishes to all the ODAC teams tomorrow!  It's the last full nonconference weekend before some ODAC play begins.  I'll be at the ECU/NCSU game in Raleigh, but I hope Guilford plays well at Averett tomorrow afternoon.  With luck, I'll be back in the stands when GC plays at HSC on the 27th.  Go Quakers!

Quick Week 3 Summary

Randolph Macon finally wins the game. Hampden Sydney and Catholic are both 3-0. Guilford falls for the first time. Bridgewater and Emory and Henry are still rebuilding.

Saw Catholic and McDaniel, and its hard to take much from that game. The 31-7 score was impressive, but Catholic wasn't great. They weren't consistent with the run, and the receivers dropped a lot of balls. However, McDaniel just isn't that talented of a team, and Catholic was able to make some big plays.

Ricca did a good job of controlling the ball, and Catholic's only turnover was an interception on a heave right before the half. If Catholic improves a few things with their offense and continues to keep their turnovers down, they should be a good team. They are certainly capable of being better, and should have put up a few more TDs against McDaniel today. Against better teams they will need to improve on the small things.

First, congratulations to Averett.  Ending a losing streak is always a great feeling, especially in front of the home fans.

Second, I didn't see the game, but I have to say it's a disappointment.  Some games you just think you're going to win, but, as they saying goes, "That's why they play the game."  Better luck next week, Quakers!

Hasa, you went to NCSU / ECU game which I think I heard State won.  How did Russell Wilson (#8) QB for NCSU do?  Appreciate any info!  C u on 10 / 18!!

Hey, Olinemom.  Yes, I was there and it was a great atmosphere ... very exciting game.  NC State played a new spread offense yesterday and Wilson did great.  He was 21 of 31 for 210 yards and 3 TDs (4, 20 & 5).  His third TD tied the game with 1:12 to go in regulation and he also ran 12 times for 26 yards which is not too bad for all the times he was out of the pocket looking for a receiver.  He was spelled at times by Harrison Beck (3 of 8 for 47 yards).  ECU got a TD off a tipped INT return, but I'm sure Beck threw it.  All in all, it was a terrific home debut for the redshirt freshman Wilson ... he should be very happy with his game!
