[...] They have not played "awesome" this year.  We've gotten minimal pressure on the qb from the front four and we pretty much got run over against Shenendoah and even a little bit by George Mason.
[...]

Just like the DBs need the DLs to make plays ... the DLs need the LBs.  Versus Shenandoah, it wasn't just the DLs not getting the ball.  Being blocked by five linemen (sometimes six or seven including a TEs), it's not so easy for three or four DLs to always make the tackle or get to the QB.

Last year, Lawrence Frierson (ODAC Defensive POTY) only had 42 tackles.  Yes, we did contain the run a lot better last year w/ Frierson in the middle ... but he also had Cam Garvin, Brian Neal and Craig Smith behind him to makes plays.  All three of those LBs aren't on the field.

As a former defensive lineman I can assure you the offense will always have 5 lineman and a TE trying to block you.  If you're "awesome" you still make plays.

Whether it's the LB's fault or the DB's fault or the DL's fault or the coache's fault bottom line at some point (prefferebly this Saturday) somebody needs to start making plays on defense.  One week our offense might not show up and the way we're playing defense so far (GM "game" notwithstanding) we're going to be in a heap of trouble if/when that happens.

Couldn't agree more.  Prepare ... this weekend could be it.  I know I'll be in a state of mourning if it does  :-[.  Having a bye week after the Sydney game is nice if we win (to celebrate), but sure will stink if we don't.

Missed out on the earlier WR discussions, but noticed that no one mentioned my protege, W & L's soph WR Jack Martin. Besides intense touchdown celebration training sessions this summer, Jack has turned himself into one of the top WR's in the conference (behind Bublavi). 6 TD's in 3 games, 150 yds/game including 206 last week.
Bridgewater fans, he had 7 rec. and a TD last yr as a freshman while yours truly was out w/ a knee injury, and with defenses continuing to focus on Colton Ward, W and L may have another 1st Team All-ODAC receiver in the mix. Look for another big game in Ashland, VA this weekend.

W&L who?  Isn't this the HSC/BC board?  What are W&L fans doing here? ???

I've always felt that when your offensive talent is close the outcome is determined by play along the line. In 2003 the O-line was pretty green in the first few games and accounted for some sacks and hurried QB play. As i recall those guys rose to the occassion down in Farmville or there wouldn't have been a chance to pull off the comeback. This year the entire Defense has been been hit by the loss of some key individuals. As pointed out, that has affected the line as well. I look for this to be the week for BC to come together on Defense.  let's see if the coaches can replicate a plan that keeps JD off balance. that photo of Brian all over young JD just breaks my heart

So, who will join Bublavi on the All-ODAC 1st Team? (poll above)

All these keen analyst re: the H-SC-B-water clash. No one seems to notice that the the top 2 running backs for the tigers - Johnny Junes and Charlie Omick will be healthy for the 1st time this year. Looks like Favret's pass-happy approach thru the 1st three games may have been a matter of necessity. The talented '03 squad was at a 335 yds. passing /170 yds. rushing level. Probably the formula for victory this Saturday. Hey Kid, if you pride yourself on being informed,  ask for the 2-deep from the B-water staff!

I guess you cameramen aren't familiar with a 2 deep roster. It's exchanged between staffs on the Monday of every game week. In laymans terms, it indicates who's available to play that week.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I knew what a two-deep is (I put together the gameday program for Bridgewater's home games).

I "huhed" at not knowing where that comment was coming from.  Did I inquire (or care) who was on Sydney's two-deep?  Did I act like I knew or didn't know?

I'm probably wasting time/effort with this.  I'll just respond to your quip with an "okay."

If I aspired to be a reporter, I think I'd like to know whether Marcus Washington and/ or Winston Young were healthly for the the "big game". The B-water slant sometimes loses a whole lot in looking at the big picture. In short, probably more than Ricca, Smith & Rolander to defend Saturday.

Thanks for the update Hurley. That is excellent that HSC is at full strength, wouldn't want to hear any excuses come Saturday evening! ;)

So Kid, do you aspire to be a professional reporter?  Or do you just aspire to be the pro-bono type reporter? What about you hurley?  What do you aspire to be?
