I agree with both of you wholeheartedly.  I wish Mr. Thornton the best in his future endeavors.  It's actually quite upsetting.  He was poised to break a couple more school records as well as a couple conference records.  Let me pose a question to you Jacketlawyer.  As he has already broken a couple of school records but his career (at R-MC) has ended the way it has, does he get a vote to maybe go in the R-MC hall of fame?  (Given he finishes out his academic career at macon)

Good question!  I'm going to have to leave the answer to that one to people who are much smarter than I am! ;)

I doubt R-M HOF, though.  I don't know the calculus used to get folks into it anyway, but it would appear counter intuitive to me at this point.  Anything gained while an enthusiastic R-M player should stand as is of course.

Yes I plan to be there.  Our son will be a Junior this year.  I applaud Guilford for the upgrade of facilities.  Our daughter was recruited by Guilford to play basketball but she ultimately chose Averett.  I think that Guilford has a beautiful campus.  We are looking forward to the trip in September.

85, hope your daughter is enjoying her career at Averett as much as my son did. He graduated this past spring and we had 4 years of great memories to remember.

By the way, I thought HSC was a passing team but I was talking to a friend at church who graduated from HSC and he was saying that the head coach there has contacts with someone at OK and that the OK guys are teaching him their pass offense. If that is true, HSC may be wide open this year and fun to watch.

Given their ability on offense the last couple of seasons it could be scary if they're more wide open. Now if Marty could just develop some contacts at Va. Tech maybe someone could teach him the Hokie style of defense.

It would be nice for HSC to become a dominant defensive team but I don't think HSC has enough dominate players to be really good on both sides of the ball; although I have a strong feeling HSC's defense will be very good this coming year. Many key starters are returning and the incoming class has some really special talent on the d-side of the ball. Should be a very interesting season.

I think Thronton's decision to leave the team (or whatever happened) should not keep him out of the HOF. He played for three years and if his accomplishments over that three year period justify him going into the HOF, he should be rewarded. Differences between a player and a coach should not erase everything he has accomplished. There are two sides to every story ...  we all know that !!!!!

How will the ODAC look this year ??? Anybody have preseason picks they care to share ??? I know HSC & Bridgewater will be good; any other schools making a run at the title ?

Wish someone could teach UVA some defense and offense. It's been how many years since UVA beat VT?

It actually wasn't that long ago - 2003 in a stunner - Unranked UVA topples #21 ranked Virginia Tech

I am too new to the ODAC to have alot of specifics on all of the teams. However, I do know that the Wasps will be strong. Offense has 3 holes to fill..2 on o-line...and qb. The o-line had some depth last year. Good guys were standing in the wings. They'll step up. Our Fresh q-back from last year decided not to return. One candidate showed alot of promise last year. Great corps of receivers and jennings and ringstaff will be back. Defense has 5 holes to fill and they are big ones. Again, I think that the guys standing in the wings will step up. E&H will contend. They are string and fast!

Any knowledge as to why McDonald didn't come back? He gave the Wasps a nice jolt going down the season stretch.

If the E&H had him again this year, they might be my favorite in the ODAC -- but breaking in a new QB is always tough.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

All I know is that Coach Monty said that he just did not want to play anymore. There are a couple of good possibilities for the season. Drew Piscopo had a great freshman year. Did very well on JV and got some varsity playing time. A concussion later in the season put him out of play. I also understand that there is a transfer coming in that is supposed to be pretty good. Whoever gets the nod will have alot of great tools to work with.

Having earned a graduate degree from South Carolina, it was particularly funny to see Clemson misspelled in letters the size of Oconee County!  Thanks.  :)
