E&H hosts BC in Emory on Oct. 24 at 1 pm.

Tigerfanalso,

I agree that the ODAC champion really needs to make some noise in the playoffs.  It does seem like "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away" since we had a playoff win.  I think that any of the five schools that you mentioned could win the title as well.  I just see HSC with 4 away conference games with two of them at E&H and The Game in Ashland and it is hard to pick them first.  I hope that I am wrong.

I agree, but I can't pick against them. For some reason I see HSC beating Bridgewater @ HSC; I see E&H beating HSC @ Emory; I see Bridgewater beating E&H; the winner TBD by how E&H & HSC stack up against W&L and RMC. If E&H beats both, they win. If not HSC has a shot.

Truth of the matter is, I'm just guessing. HSC should have won the ODAC last year but let it slip away by losing to home games to CU & RMC. I'm hoping they use last years failure as motivation this year. They have many returning starters that probably well remember how bad they felt after both of those home loses.

We're all going to find soon. HSC has a tough out of conference schedule as well with games against Salisbury & NCW. Fortunately those games will be played on The Hill. What a great home schedule this year; NCW, Gettysburg, Bridgewater, W&L & Salisbury. Maybe the best home schedule ever !!!!!!

Macon is going to have thier work cut out for them.  They are in a whole before the season starts for two reasons:  1) Not having two of thier starting offensive SENIORS returning is a huge blow and 2) Macon only plays four home games this season.  But, and there is always a but.  Those two of those four home games are against HSC and E&H which is a  plus.

Solid offensive group coming back but (and there's that word again) if my memory serves me correctly they are losing their entire secondary.

If Macon lost the entire secondary they might have a difficult time slowing down HSC's offense. Final score might be 51 to 50 !!!!!!

I am going to say this with the preface of not having seen Macon's younger guys play:  Macon's defense is usually a strong point of the team.  Just because Macon lost some players, that doesn't necessarily mean they are going to be a push-over.  Aruzza and Russ Mollett (Macon's DC) have a uncanny ability to reload on defense every year.  It's just they have a lot more reloading to do this year than normal.  Should be an interesting game.

To any other Macon fans out there:  Anyone know who is going to fill Thorton's shoes at running back this year?  I was just looking at the 2008 roster and there was only one other running back listed, Darius Harris?  Is Harris going to tote the mail or does Aruzza have someone coming in?

Is the running back that played in the second half of The Game last year coming back ? That guy looked pretty darn good to me and he really performed well behind that rather sizable OL (I sure hope most of those guys are gone).

I'm certain this topic will come up tomorrow when I interview Aruzza at media day -- and it will certainly be addressed in Kickoff 2009. ;)

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

On a related note, has there been any word on where Thornton ended up this season (if anywhere)?

I have good news and bad news (for you, not me).  The running back you are talking about is Steve Matthews.  He will not be returning. He graduated last year.  The Offensive Line (this coming from a Senior that just graduated) is supposed to be better than the one they had last year.  The majority of that group came in together and have been playing together for a couple of years now.  So there would be your bad news, the o-line is going to be strong again this year.

This is just a rumor that I heard - I heard that at one point he was trying to attend another ODAC school but was unsuccesful.  I heard that he might finish out his college education career at Macon.  Take all this with just a tad more than a grain of salt.  Alll second hand information.

You are correct that Thornton is indeed staying at R-MC and finishing out his degree there.

Thanks for the "bad" news. If the OL is back I don't think it really matters who is in the backfield; at age 53, with bad knees, I think I could run behind that line !!!!!

Good luck this season,  until the 2nd Saturday in November.
(of course)
My guess is the ODAC will be very entertaining again this year and hopefully The Game will be for  the championship. Hopefully we can return the favor this year (beating RMC in Ashland to win the ODAC)!!!!!
