With Mississippi College and Washington & Jefferson losing will it be Hampden Sydney or Thomas More at #2 in the regional rankings behind #1 Wesley in the South Region?
How big does HSC's 55-23 win over NC Wesleyan look now?

GC-Q Beats RMC- Cause and effect---Hasanova finshes off the bottle of Jack under bleachers. "Any given Staurday" I guess
Happily for the Quakers, today wasn't a fluke.  Guilford outplayed Randolph-Macon and earned a solid win ... arguably their biggest since snapping BC's 35-game ODAC win streak in '06.  The keys today were only one turnovers (a fumble), exploiting RMC with short passes, solid defense and (tongue in cheek) running away from every punt instead of trying to field it.  :)   In a Vogelbachian performance, Guilford QB Billy Watkins was 35 of 52 for 378 yards and two scores while freshman kicker Brad Scott hit two FG's and Richie Paul had 18 tackles for the second straight game.  There was a nice fan base for the Jackets today - not sure if they and, perhaps, the players, were overlooking Guilford heading into their last two games with BC and HSC.  I could sense some concern from RMC fans at the half around the concession stand.  RMC can still drive the ODAC bus home, but the road got a little rockier today!

Congrats Mr. Nova......I know it has been a frustrating year for you. Hopefully, yesterday eased your pain a little.  You will be in Salem on Dec 19th?

I was very disappointed in the video coverage and broadcast from W&L.  No one moved the camera to keep up with the play and the stream dis-appeared at half time.  Broadcasters screamed everytime W&L gained a yard and seemed to be more interested in baseball.  Bad strategy falling at the 5 yard line, you put 6 up everytime you get the chance, especially in D3.

Thanks, allsky.  Yesterday was a good day - I saw a lot of friends and Guilford played a great game.  It has been a long season, so yesterday's win offered some encouragement ... especially heading into the Catholic game next week.  I'd love to be in Salem on Dec. 19, but son number 2 is getting married in Asheville December 19.  I'll be one of the guys in a tux!  Maybe next year for the Stagg Bowl!

I have referred to some 9-1 ODAC teams sittiing and in essence BC went 8-1. The non conference loss would not have kept the Eagles out. I feel your pain; not as bad because it's your team. Generally BC has been a good playoff team. In the early 2000's BC and HSC KILT each other with one loss. Was the famous Skoal there with a brew?

If memory serves.....E&H got left out with a 10 and 0 record before the ODAC had the AQ.

I believe you are correct. I think that year that there may have actually been 6 teams in the south that were undefeated and only 4 were taken from each region.  If I remember it was the mid to late 90's .(6 or 98 maybe

If I had to guess I would say that TMC will probably get the nod at #2, and it really wouldn't surprise me if UMHB jumps ahead of the Tigers as well based on their dominant win and HSC's open date. As for the NCW win, I'm glad we played them early in the season.

HSCTiger74,

I agree.  There does not seem to be great respect for the Tigers yet.  They have a chance this week to gain some respect or lose some.

I don't know how the Regional Rankings weight an undefeated regional record vs national recognition or strength of schedule.  Thomas Moore will have a win over a regional ranked team.  Unless NCW gets into the rankings that is why TM will jump HSC.   The other factor is that Mississippi College still has a head to head win over UMBH.  Do they stay above UMBH or fall behind?

With the Mississippi College conference loss, the committee can then look at results against common opponents.  UMHB has appeared more dominant than Miss College in the ASC.

If Miss College plays UMHB 10 times at neutral field or home-and-home, I think that UMHB wins 6-7 out of 10.

Thanks Ralph.  With all of the things to look at it gets confusing at times.  One question that I would have is does the NCAA committee make Mississippi College play at UMBH?

Thanks to Hawks88 who pointed out that Centre and Huntingdon are less than 500 miles apart...  Huntingdon-Miss College is also a bus ride.

If Miss College and UMHB can be bussed, then I think that they will.

I think that neither Trinity nor Millsaps will get the SCAC bid.

I think that the best chance for fewest flights include

Miss College over UMHB
Huntingdon over Centre

Huntingdon and Miss College in the second round.

HSC is #21 in the Top 25 poll.  I think the regional rankings helped put HSC on a few more ballots.  The point total went from 63 to 139 in a week where they had an open date.

To Llamaguy and all at Stone Station,

Just wanted you to know that I just booked my flight and hotel for the Stagg Bowl.  A special treat this year will be that Roocru and Crualum39 will both be bringing our wives.  :D

Any idea when will the starting time for the game be announced?
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

It was alot harder to make it to the NCAA's, no AQ's for anyone and only 16 teams made it. 4 from each region.

Bridgewater can take out their frustrations on RMC on Saturday and eliminate the Jackets but I bet the ODAC Commissioner would not shed any tears if RMC wins out to claim the ODAC crown and Hampden Sydney wins its out of conference matchup then falls in The Game to go 9-1 and claims an at large bid(keeping it simple here Pool B and Pool C experts).
I think that would be the first time with 2 ODAC teams in the playoffs since 2000 when Emory & Henry got the AQ and Bridgewater got an at large NCAA bid.

In my opinion, if the Tigers lose at Randolph-Macon, they have only a very slim chance of getting a Pool C bid.

There are only 6 Pool C's to go around and I think that a few of them are pretty much already taken:

  • Mary Hardin Baylor
  • OAC Runnerup
  • CCIW Runnerup

Might depend on how badly they beat Salisbury in Week 10 and how close they came to beating Macon, but their chances of a Pool C bid would not be good.
