Herr Hasa
How much longer at GC-Q before you see what O they got...

Posted in wrong place earlier
Guten tag, Herr Abnrgr.  I'm not sure - my life's been wall-to-wall busy and a lot of focus the last few weeks has been on Guilford's Final Four basketball team.  Let me ask around a bit.  As always, good to hear from you.

Final 4. Good on them.

Yeah, great movie.  Reminds me of the place (and gyms) where I grew up.  Williams College hit an unbelievable 16 of 28 threes in the the semis and that was that ... it was a close game and Guilford was still in it well into the second half.

Spoke to Kiesel Wednesday night - Watkins is back and there will be a couple of other guys this season that'll compete for QB.  Said he had some transfers from DII schools that could help with depth at several spots.  Running back seems to be in pretty good shape.  Said recruiting numbers so far are lower than past seasons - I guess it's the economy and how it affects decisions to go private versus public schools.

abnrgr

with Dept of ED giving out ALL the money it will change how recruiting is done. Not the forum here but it has to change it somehow.

I rather see them on the field on Saturday night instead in the club......

Don't worry about basketball now.....spring practice is here somewhere

17 Honor roll students from the football team! Sounds like a Vandy football team.

Well, we aren't Oklahoma.  lol  I just wish we could have 17 Honor Roll students AND win 7+ games.  :)  I was over on the USASAC site yesterday (and spoke to someone in the know at Guilford today) reading about our kicker transferring to Averett.  Putting two and two together, I'd say it was freshman Brad Scott.  I'm sorry to hear that, but wish him well in Danville in all but one game.

Transfer to Danville huh? Got to be over money. D3 will see guys sliding towards the less expensive schools alot now. (as you so adroitly asserted earlier). I know my son Brian was offered alot (metaphorically speaking) to go to Methodist as a junior and it would have a lot less but he stayed with Iron mike

...Just a question....Are there no sit out rules in D3 football? Can say... a player from Emory transfer to Guilford, and play immediately?  Just wondering!

Some conferences have rules about transferring, but according to NCAA rules, you can transfer from one school to another and play the next year.  As long as you are in good academic standing.  I think the original school must also grant you a release.

No longer on the last part -- you can self-release in Division III.

All the opponents for Guilford are the same as 2009, but some of the dates are different.  Also, looks like the league finally addressed the issue of unbalanced home and away schedules (some teams had 4 at home and some 2 out of 6).  W&L, for example, is coming to Greensboro for the 2nd year in a row - this will put Guilford at 5-5 home and away overall and 3-3 home and away in the league.  Also, we start ODAC play with the Generals after years of opening with the HSC Tigers.  Finally, our bye week is different and we're playing Southern Virginia on Saturday after several years of accommodating their need to play on Friday night.  Change is good!  :)

Sometimes change is good. It is however the only thing that is inevitable. But the home games between the Pride and Quakes are home games. What is it 5 miles?

I liked the high school stadium they play in. It holds a ton of bodies usually equally apportioned. Big crowds are good....

Need some O line sized bodies too.  :)

abnrgr - yeah, "sometimes" change is good.   Greensboro and Guilford are about 5-6 miles apart.  The Pride doesn't have an on-campus stadium, so they play, as you say, at Grimsley HS's bowl, which seats about 10,000.  For the Soup Bowl (and I've been to all of them), the Quakers and the Pride have always alternated - this year is Guilford's turn to host at Armfield Stadium on GCQ's campus.

hasanova,

I just recently asked the question to some of the current Averett parents that have been keeping up with the spring practices and see what is going on. "How was Averett's kicking game going to be this coming year" From what I saw last year they had some issues and the jr. was pulled for a freshman, but they kept switching. Any info on this guy from Guilford. Last time I visited Greensboro and Guilford, they had some good looking kickers with reasonable distance.
