17 Honor roll students from the football team! Sounds like a Vandy football team.
Well, we aren't Oklahoma.  lol  I just wish we could have 17 Honor Roll students AND win 7+ games.  :)  I was over on the USASAC site yesterday (and spoke to someone in the know at Guilford today) reading about our kicker transferring to Averett.  Putting two and two together, I'd say it was freshman Brad Scott.  I'm sorry to hear that, but wish him well in Danville in all but one game.

hasanova,

I just recently asked the question to some of the current Averett parents that have been keeping up with the spring practices and see what is going on. "How was Averett's kicking game going to be this coming year" From what I saw last year they had some issues and the jr. was pulled for a freshman, but they kept switching. Any info on this guy from Guilford. Last time I visited Greensboro and Guilford, they had some good looking kickers with reasonable distance.
Hey, kickerdad.  Sorry for the delay - I haven´t been visiting the football board lately.  He's a sophomore this year, so he had one season under his belt at Guilford.  I think he's from the Rocky Mount, NC area.  I met his parents last season, but don't know him.  I have no idea why he transferred, but he looked like he had a lot of promise and distance.  The only rap I heard anyone say was temperament - especially when he missed.  Kickers are a different breed, however, and this is second-hand information, so I don't know how wild the reactions were.

Hasanova,

thanks for the information. I hope he does well at Averett. I know all about kickers and their attitudes. I experienced that for 9 years. Kickers either get in a zone and won't listen to you or they start attempting kicks in practice out of their comfort zone and start missing and then get defensive...anyway glad that piece of the experience is over but I miss Saturday afternoons with the tailgating, and being able to visit other schools and see the sites.

Found this release today that was posted May 24.  Of the eight commitments to Guilford this round, 5 are from NC, 2 from VA and 1 from FL.  I believe this gets the Quakers to 13 so far.

All those guys from the western part of NC are usually mountain get down and chew the dirt types (Randleman and Albermarle). very reliable type guys Usually gives 3-4 years of service. Not spectacular but steady. Used to harshness in the trenches.

K2 needs to get down to the coast and get some speed for as you know speed kills.  Everyone needs 'hog lineman" (said with reverence) but there are good feet down near New Bern, Havelock, and West Craven. With the wide frames too!!

With all due respect, I'm from the mountains - Albemarle and Randleman are more just the hills.  lol  I do agree, however, that they'll probably be steady players.  I'm not sure what K2's recruiting strategy is - we may be getting beat by NCWC and/or MU for players in the eastern part of the state.  Numbers look down a little so far, but in DIII, you never know until August.

I noticed that King is a legacy......"unless he is a toal loser like Fred".  ;)

Got a year at APPY. He's used to playoff football that's for sure. Might need some charm like that.

They got a hog lineman finally (said with affection).

Hey abnrgr.  Sounds as though King got bit by the injury bug at App - hope that's behind him.  You're right, though, he's used to winning with the Mountaineers.  A 6'3"/280 lineman's big for DIII - we can use him!

Come on Hasa. You missed my "Animal House" bust.  :)

Yea King was hurt at APPY but this may be a new start for him. You get redshirted a couple of times and it's hard to shake the perception sometimes.

Lets make the assumption that he will overcome as hope is not a planning consideration. We do have to remember that those boys up in Boone are one step from the bigs and they bring the hat too. I wonder if he got a ring while up there

May I have another, please, sir?

Doubtful.  King was redshirted in 2007, injured in 2008 and I found no stat line for 2009.  I guess he played, but maybe Edwards had a lot of other targets.
